I'm not sure how that will bode for their future, but it gave me a giggle nonetheless. I've been off the ol' coffee lately, so when we popped our heads in here, I opted for orange juice. Pricy for the bottle, but unlike my recent grumble about cafes charging £3+ for standard tropicana, the fare offered here is on the higher end of the juice scale and seems a little more justified in its crazy price tag. Regardless, I would happily throw down £3 again to sit in their ridiculously adorable back room! With ornate chairs, a pretty little window seat and well picked antiques - it's like stepping into a lady Sherlock's study. I'm a BIG fan. It's TINY - three spaces to sit, all of them no more than two chairs - but on a quiet day, it would be a great place to work from... it positively screams world domination! However, if it's a bit cramped, they do have one slightly larger table out front. The owner is super cheerful and the baked goods look interesting. They do crumpets on Sundays, which is a nice touch and duly noted, as it's an easy stop on the way home for me. Chose the Salmon cream cheese bagel and Cappuccino with cinnamon and cream floaters. Both were well presented and delish, although the coffee required extra sugar. A huge 19th century Bryson Dalkeith clock was affixed to the stone wall next to a sign that pointed downstairs for more seating. Curiously headed down stairs to the toilets which were clean and had light wood surrounding the two mirrors above the sinks, which continued that country theme. Massive dining area below and a sign advised closed at 6pm daily. A artsy small chalk board was affixed to the wall behind the pay counter which said, "Soup of the Day", although it was blank, maybe just for lunch. There was a Medicine Shop which was a section that sold Black Medicine apparel and tote bags. Loved the fragrance of the fresh Goblin coffee beans next to the Black Medicine coffee bags for sale. If in Scotland, this cafe is an interesting and relaxing place with great coffee and cool decor.

We clearly didn't plan things out well, as we had to scramble to hit stops 6 and 7 within an hour of closing, on our last full day in Edinburgh. But, in our defense, coffee shops close up super early in Edinburgh! We hustled our way from the Mile towards Cairngorm, side-stepping tourists and hurrying across intersections. On a normal day, it would've been a nice jaunt through town, but on this day, it was a hectic seemingly-longer-than-it-should-have-been-half-sprint to the front door. I did love the feel of this shop, from the steps leading down to the cozy interior and the bags of spent coffee bean lining the ceiling. The girl working that day was very nice and welcoming. We placed our order and settled into a small table near the back of the building. I kept an eye on the barista (hubby's back was to the counter) so that I could pop up to grab our drinks when they were ready, but she brought them to us, instead. She saw our Disloyal 7 cards out on the table, and said, "Be sure to bring that by before you leave so that I can stamp them!" The lattes were good, with a nice, rich and creamy flavor. I think I could've ended our night here, wrapped up in the warmth of a good latte and a comfortable chair, but my husband pointed out that we had time to get to the final stop on our list, if we hurried. So, we went up to the counter and had the barista stamp their slice, and then hurried once more into the cold Edinburgh dusk.

I have been to Tea Jenny's twice, once to their main cafe and once to the sister cafe Wee Jenny's…read morenext door. On both occasions I have been totally overwhelmed by the incredible cakes and by just how lovely everything is. Last time I was there I got a dirty chai latte - apparently it has both tea and coffee in it, it sounds weird, but it's good and it comes with glitter on top. In the past I've chosen from their tea menu which is extensive and full of interesting flavours. I also chose the soup of the day which came with some lovely crusty bread. Then, having done my duty and eaten some real food, I wandered downstairs to take in the cake selection. I opted for a slice of the white chocolate and pistachio cake, a four-tierd monster of confectionary. It was delicious but very sweet and I'm afraid I couldn't manage it all - fortunately the folk at Tea Jenny's were very happy to package it up for me and the remainder made a lovely treat later that day. I don't think I could go here too often, but I definitely recommend a visit for a special occasion or a treat. It's not quite like any other cafe I've visited.

We had to wait a little but this may have felt worse thanks to not having breakfast, but considering how many people were there, it wasn't too bad. The chai was nice, it had glittery, simmering sprinkles on top which fascinated me for a while. It wasn't The Best chai ever, but yummy none the less. The Panini again was nice, a little on the plain side, and I would have liked to have been offered side alternatives, however the salad Looked lovely :) The cakes however...my goodness I am going back to sample their cakes. The have a victoria sponge and cheesecake daily, then three different scrumptious looking cakes each day. Rainbow cake, Malteser cake and some sort of caramel twix looking cake mmmm! If you find yourself in Falkirk it's a lovely little independent cafe which you really should try.

But, we were determined to get all those stamps (and the satisfaction of having accomplished something that was specific to Edinburgh), so this was the first of two coffee shops visited in the space of an hour. Crazy? Yes, indeed. I really liked the feel of this shop. It's open, clean and bright. It's about on par, size-wise, as some of the other shops we visited, but it wasn't as busy. There were two guys working the counter when we arrived, and they had several tables open, which we took advantage of. We ordered our drinks and sat down to wait. They came out quickly, and they were delicious. The guy who brought our coffee to the table was very friendly, checking to make sure that we were set, that we had everything we needed, and that we knew they had fresh-baked pastries at the counter. I was interested in the pastries but knew that we had one more coffee shop to visit before really starting our day, so I had to abstain. The coffee was delicious - well brewed and served piping hot. I could see making this place into a normal haunt, if we were in the area more often.
