We had an opportunity to view a final Dress Rehearsal of a play titled The 39 Steps . The theatre itself is a small but very comfortable local affair. Located very easily, there is plenty of parking available. The interior is warm and welcoming with many displays of previous productions as well as a few favorite costumes on display. The facilities are spacious, clean and roomy. There is also a small concessions bar available. The theatre seats are very comfortable and the acoustics really help to promote the sound effects and voices. The stagecraft was very cleverly designed and operated with controlled lighting movements as well as drop down props and curtain controls. We were entertained by The 39 Steps. The actors were very emotive and this play was definitely a lighthearted spoof. Amazing to think what these four actors were able to pull off being many different characters in a fast paced but comical way. I would definitely be interested in attending Cottage Theatre again. read more

No bad seats! Actors use mics, so hearing dialogue is never a problem! Acting, costuming, lighting, and production choices are all well done ... especially for a theatre this size. You are greeted warmly as you enter, guided to your seat if needed, and there is seating for disabled or anyone needing a little more leg room. read more

Saw "39 Steps" on opening weekend - 5 of the 6 for 2024 were fun & entertaining. BUT this one was a sorry MIS-STEP in our opinion. So bad & dismally boring that we made the choice to leave @ Intermission. Saw 5 cars starting up in the lot who apparently agreed. We actually walked home in the cold fog since we rode w/neighbors. They texted later that they wished they had left early as well. She called it outright STUPID. Bad script overall, no matter what the New York elites say. Amusing maybe as a play for middle schoolers, but just lame for any seasoned theatre-goer. And yes, we did watch The 3 Stooges as kids; I mean we have a sense of humor. Someone's vanity project @ CT? How could a panel possible think this would be a good show for the festive month of December? The various accents were poor, the acting mostly awful & perhaps it's time to rotate the overerly used Merz Duo with some FRESH faces (& cover the tattoos for the time period!).
