What a great addition to the ever-expanding dining options on the rue Bichat! This new organic…read morecanteen is an unfussy restaurant run by a mom and daughter duo.
One whole side of the restaurant is an open-kitchen where you can see the lovely kitchen team roasting, baking, pureeing, juicing and mixing things up right in front of you. The rest of the cool city-loft space is full of tall family-style tables with bar stool seats, a little mezzanine nook with cushions, and colorful Japanese lanterns suspended from the ceiling.
The menu has just three dishes, three rice bowls in vegetarian, meat or fish versions, all for approx 8€ and a bunch of yummy baked goods and fresh-squeezed juices.
I ordered the chicken and rice bowl that was super satisfying and healthy with a very memorable beet purée that was just divine. My one critique was that it was a little under-seasoned, so be sure to add some soy sauce or salt to perk things up.
I'll definitely come back when craving some inexpensive, healthy grub in an airy, laid back environment.
