Through my husband's work, we've stayed at some high-end resort hotels who are affiliated with…read morebabysitting services -- so the adults can attend the work functions -- and have always had good experiences, so was sad and frustrated that this one fell really short of acceptible. And I did give this feedback to the concierge as a courtesy; I was grateful she had arranged the care. I still don't understand why these sitters have to come in pairs; I'd prefer one babysitter focused on my kid, not two, which is A. overkill for a 2yo and B. adds the element of them talking with each other (or hanging out on their smartphones) and not paying attention to my kid. If they're truly certified by this daycare center, they should be able to handle on their own. I'd be curious to learn what it takes to become certified. Ok... so then they both showed up late and neither had eaten dinner; we hired them for 5:30-9:30 p.m. so I felt obligated to feed them, but since we're at a hotel and the kid needed to stay in the room, room service was only option. I probably spent more on them for dinner than I did for their services. And they didn't thank us when I offered and ordered it (just a meek "are you sure... OK" or at the end of the night when I asked how it was. The one thing I did ask was a text message when my kid was down for the night, which should've happened shortly after 7. No word, so I finally checked in at 8:30 p.m. At end of night, no proactive feedback on their part to tell me how my kid ate, was he happy with the activities, did he go down on time, did he fall asleep quickly... I had to pry it out of them. And then there was the awkward conversation when one was expecting payment, even though these are usually paid through the hotel because it's a service. (and I double checked ahead of time to confirm). So upsetting to know we were booked with them again for the next night. Only one showed up then, so I asked her two things: put any leftover milk in the fridge and text me when he was asleep. I even nicely conveyed how I asked for it last night and didn't happen and I'd really appreciate the text tonight. Yet... neither happened. When I texted to check in, she said she did but must've done a wrong number. Wished I could've called her out on it. For the quality of the hotel, I expected higher quality services; I'm already in a position of entrusting the care of my child to strangers in a strange town... I don't need a naive babysitter -- or in this case a pair of 'em. They kept my kid alive, so there's that, but the rate we paid was double the going rate down in Boise and we didn't even get half the service.
