I told everyone about this place in the beginning of my experience but I've had a couple hit and extreme misses with them as well. I ordered burnt ends and got $18 worth of charred fat...not a single piece of meat in the box. Not good. I ordered the brisket sandwich in my last go around and ended up sick. Not saying it was totally their fault just 1 thing happened and then the next thing happened. I absolutely hate to not be 100% about this place. The seasoning is great! The portions are fair and the atmosphere is definitely BBQ, but in several occurrences I got way less and unfortunately more than I expected. guys, tighten up the product and I'll pay whatever you're charging. Great outdoor seating with multiple food trucks! The brisket was cooked fantastic and melted in your mouth. The Mac and cheese was creamy and delicious. I have to say. This was pretty good barbecue. Not a one off either. We got the wings, the brisket, the pork. All of it was good. With the collards and the mac n cheese. I think the name initially detracts from the good old barbecue, but give it a shot. It's worth it. And then you'll be saying count porkula more than you thought. I meet a friend here for lunch. First time to eat here. We ordered at the counter and found a seat. The staff was less than friendly. The food was ok. I had the pulled pork sandwich. When delivered I asked for side of mayo. Never got it and when I mentioned this to the girl who delivered my food her reply was, "I had other thing to do, I guess I forgot it." No sorry, just well get over it attitude. While sitting there, an older couple sat behind us and we witnessed a manager basically humiliate her because they served her brisket that was 1/3 a fat strip. He humiliated her so badly I turned around and apologized for his attitude and lack of customer care. (Wasn't my place but these elderly patrons were kind and I honestly felt he bullied and harassed them for simply asking for a piece of meat that wasn't all fat). She and her husband expressed they would not be returning either. This is horrible behavior by staff. I had pulled pork with beans and coleslaw. The pork was excellent but not a large serving, The beans were OK but nothing special. The sauce was bland and overly sweet with a seasoning I could not identify (maybe celery) that I don't associate with BBQ. The slaw was excellent. Service was excellent. Tasty barbecue in a cool, relaxing food garden. Pulled pork was excellent- flavorful, extremely tender yet with body, moist. Brisket was thick cut, tender, well rendered. Could have had a little more smoke, though. All our sides are to be recommended. Turnip greens were flavored without being overly peppery or sour. Dill pickle pasta salad similarly didn't drown under the dill. Mustard potato salad was made well. Banana pudding is always good. I came here for lunch on a Friday, and it was surprisingly empty. I ordered the rib plate that came with mustard potato salad and fries. Their fries are SO GOOD. They did say that they don't typically have fries which I have no idea why because the seasoning on them is amazing. It's slightly sweet but also salty. Idk what it is, but I'd eat it all day. Some of my potatoes were a little underdone though, but the seasoning on the fries made me forget reallll quick. The mustard potato salad was awesome. I love mustard, and this tasted great. It reminded me of a deviled egg filling. The ribs were good too, but they weren't extremely tender. I could definitely pull it apart from the bone very very easily, but some parts of the meat were a little tough. I love that it has a dry rub instead of a sauce! First the high points: In the atmosphere dept you guys are killing it. Clearly someone did some research in one or two larger metro areas. Calls to mind Bleu Garten in OKC. You have built a space which is comfortable, and pleasant to be in. Service. So important, and apparently I'm not the only one who thinks so, because service was absolutely on point in here. Buuuuut... on to the meat of the review (yuk yuk)... It honestly blows my mind that a city situated 130 miles from Memphis on one side and 130 miles from Texas on the other can be SOOOO bad at BBQ. I have tried at least 3 different BBQ joints in LR and none have failed to disappoint. Here at Porkula I went for ribs with beans and slaw. I should've just asked for a side a slaw before ordering anything else. In my exp, a BBQ joint's slaw is an excellent weather vane. Porkula's slaw was so flavorless it was basically a superfluous palette cleanser. Beans weren't far behind. Little black pepper flavor. Not much more. The ribs were tasty in so far as they were a fatty meat, cooked at the right temperature for the right amount of time. Not much can be said for the rub, the smoke flavor, or the sauce (AKA everything that makes BBQ BBQ). Very mild flavor, bordering on bland. Sooooo.... Should you check out Porkula's? It depends. If you're looking to have drinks with friends in one of the only progressive aesthetics in this entire town, Porkula's will not disappoint. If you're looking for BBQ? Drive to Memphis. Ultimately it's the food that will bring me back and it's the food that will elicit my recommendation to others. That's why there are hole in the wall joints that have been going strong for decades, while another restaurant with a beautiful facade closes daily. read more

Decided to try this place out and ordered ribs and a pulled pork sandwich for pick up. I was never asked about any barbecue sauce so I assumed they just added it to your order unless you ask for something specific. When I got to the restaurant and got my food, I was never asked if I needed any bbq sauce or condiments. When I got home with my order and opened up my to go boxes everything was dry and there was no sauce on the side. I've never been to barbecue restaurant where I haven't been given barbecue sauce to go along with my barbecue. I don't know if that's the norm here, but luckily I had some barbecue sauce on hand. The ribs were OK, not as tender as I would've liked for them to be. And the sandwich was also OK, nothing worth bragging about. My husband and I stopped for some BBQ. We enjoyed the experience from beginning to end! We shared the trio. There was enough for 3 people! We chose the chicken, turkey, and sausage as our meats. We did add a side because it was easier than deciding which 3 to include with our entree. We chose the signature dill pasta salad, deviled egg potato salad, corn pudding and stovetop baked beans. So I have tried a lot of barbecue in Little Rock. None have come close to my hometown, four-time Memphis in May Champs - 17th Street Barbecue in Murphysboro, Illinois. Until now. Checking out the Rail Yard and what's up with all the commotion about this new BBQ place down there. Lunch yesterday was lively with a packed house. I had Pork BBQ Nachos. My friend had the pork plate with two sides and an extra rib. Yummy fir all! Nachos were porky and delicious. A cheese dip was poured over the round tortillas and I must say it was a great tasting dip. Some slaw and jalapeños on top made it mucho yummy. The pork plate was great as well as the extra rib which was HUGE! Tangy BBQ sauce was very good. Not too anything. Just right. The cornbread muffin included with the plate was perfect. Star of the whole meal was the turnip greens. OMG, they were the best I've had! Overall problem and not too bad was the Pork not as warm as we would have liked it. Best BBQ I have had in a long time! I've lived in Savannah, Birmingham and Nashville and this place is golden! I had the pulled pork w/ 1/4 ribs and my wife had the burnt ends. All of the meat was incredibly tender and smoked to perfection. The side of stovetop beans were also impressive. This is now the only BBQ place we will pay to eat at. Things are so bad at this place -- I don't even know where to start with my review. When I walked in, 2 people said, "he'll be with you in a few minutes." After waiting 12 minutes, I sat myself at a table while the 3 employees in the restaurant completely ignored me. One was watching TV, the other was playing with his phone and the bar tender was doing nothing. Finally, the cook in the kitchen stuck his head out and said "someone will be with you." When the "cashier" finally appeared, I was again ignored for 7 minutes. He finally walked over and said, "do you want to order something to go" to which I replied, "no, I'll eat here." And to be clear, there were only 2 other tables with customers and both had gotten their food. I ordered a sandwich, mustard potato salad, and tea. Never got the tea. I got mayo potato salad, not the mustard style I had ordered. The food was unremarkable - except the sandwich was loaded with lots of meatless fat. The cashier's first question after I ordered was "do you want to leave a gratuity?" I had not even gotten my order yet -- and when it came, it was wrong. As I was leaving, I requested a refund on the tea I ordered. The cashier stated "I never charged you for it." He did not offer an apology for his error. He did not thank me for patronizing the restaurant. If you want to be a customer who is treated with appreciation and respect and get the food that you actually order, this is not the place for you! The slaw has a tiny kick to it just enough to make it a perfect combination. We had to try the ribs too. They were quite tender and very good although I prefer mine more fall off the bone and crispy on the edges but that's just a personal preference.
