I also picked up two bags of their coffee to take home, which is priced at $10 a packet - usually $13-$13.50 online! A few days later, we stopped by their cafe after exploring Te Mata Peak. The coffee, again, was perfect. Now, back in Auckland, I'm enjoying their plunger coffee at home, and it smells and tastes heavenly.

I ordered a long black hoping to taste the flavor notes written on their bag, but what I tasted instead was a lot of nothing. To be clear, I bought their Kenyan single origin beans that I've yet to try and I'm hoping for a better experience brewing the coffee myself. I went ahead and bought the bag because I saw a long line behind me and my past experience with any single origin coffee beans have been good. I was a bit disappointed not to see any "roasted on" date, which is usually an indicator by the roaster of their craftsmanship. Great roasters often add a "roasted on" date to let coffee aficionados know the freshness of the beans. Older coffee beans lose their flavors and anything older than 1-2 months are normally considered undesirable. Furthermore, I was surprised that the person who checked me out for the single origin beans had no idea what they were. I had to point out "Single Origin" on their menu for them to realize I was referring to their specialty coffee beans. They do have a cute menu and a small seating area inside. They roast their beans onsite and I watched the roaster work behind a glass window while I was there. Overall, I wasn't too impressed by their coffee, but it's possible I ordered the wrong drink.

It's supposed to be good for getting rid of colds. They also had items made out of honey like face creams and candy. Also had textiles for sale. Inside the store also had an information section about bees and honey production that was interesting and interactive for kids of all ages. I was on a tour bus with 20 other folks. The service was pretty quick. I had to wait behind one person to check Out.

There's a little video of inside a hive, there are a few active hives or frames you can look at, there are panels of information about beekeeping and the local honey, and of course there's the tasting area. They don't tackily police the tasting, so you can try the honeys in your preferred order and compare a few you might be considering. It's really interesting how different the honeys are from one another. They sell all the honey products you could want, from edible honey and honey products to the cosmetics you see in tourist shops everywhere. I didn't do much comparison shopping but the prices seemed about average, which means a bit high. The staff was friendly when I entered, and as I paid and they gave me a winery map and some suggestions. There's plenty of parking in the lot outside. It's just off Te Mata and near Black Barn, Te Mata, and Craggy Range wineries.

Most annual hours of bright sunlight on North Island of NZ, and today was GORGEOUS, cool sea breezes, temps mid 20's C. Fine welcome at Crazy Good, helped us with AIR / pumps for the tires, made up F R E S H and delicious coffees, enjoyed at comfy outdoor shady curbside table. TASTY HOT decafs triple shots hot almond milk on the side, BARISTA made = best we've had in this part of the world, a local roaster, ON THEIR GAME, a real treat. It looked legit and so I decided to check it out. The place is tiny and super cute. They have a little collection of feathers taped to the wall, in a really cool looking way. I wish I could pull off something like that in my house, but there's no way. They really made it work though. There is a little shelving unit off to the left of the shop which houses little coffee accessories for sale. They sell plungers, filters, keep cups. They have most anything you'd need to make a solid cuppa at home, including fresh roasted beans. I ordered a soy capp and my boyfriend got the same. As usual I brought my to-go cup, and the barista had no qualms about it (it's American sized, like 16 oz). The coffee production was quick, but high quality, and the music in the store was vibey and upbeat. I really enjoyed the little store and had a nice little seat in the wire chairs they have by the window, which seem to be there for people who are grabbing to-go cups. The only downside of this visit is that I live too far away to visit again any time soon. I'm obsessed with this place!

Once we did figure it out, I had the pleasure of having pork belly for brunch with 3 salads and my partner had an exceptional attempt at eggs benedict (the hollandaise was velvety with a touch of lemon). They use premium products and Hawkes Bay's finest local produce but the pricing isn't put at a premium. The service is OK as is the coffee; I ordered a tall macchiato which was quite burnt. They were receptive to make me another one but unfortunately it was more of the same so I have taken away one star. Can't wait to go again!
