Restaurants are something we also do well and are so varied its harder to give an overall all encompassing description. Pubs with restaurants attached are not something we do well, particularly of the "oh, people are asking for food, we'd best throw an extension on the back of the pub and call it gastro" variety. The Sheebeen is one such establishment; the front part, the main bar is lovely and welcoming, the restaurant part at the back is fairly soulless; a room, spartanly decorated with a couple of old sings and nets and shells for atmosphere... it really doesn't work. Happily, it is redeemed by the food, the most important part of any meal I think you'll agree. I had the pork belly which was spectacular in and of itself.... the chef tried to be a bit decorative on the plate which A. didn't work and B. didn't suit the place. My twice- cooked chips were definitely OK and much enjoyed but lacked that crispy outside I was expecting. There were 12 of us and not a scratch was left on a plate, all dishes were tasty and finished completely... so, that's the punchline really.... overall good food, definitely a place to go to for informal dining. The wine selection was not bad, the beer selection was that awful Guinness, Heineken and bulmers mix.

I'm usually not one to eat mashed potatoes but the mash that came with the beef looked really good so I said I would give it a try and I'm so glad I did! Absolutely amazing. The gravy was delicious. 10/10, I have been thinking about this meal for a week now and will definitely be back! Everyone else I was with also loved the food! The service was good and the inside of the restaurant is cosy and inviting, overall a lovely place to go for a nice meal!

Wide array of interesting items like Venison Pie you will see on the menu here. I did choose the Venison Pie, and it was sweet and tasty. The seafood soup was very good as well and was decorated with a puffy fish and I want to say a mint of some sort put in place of where an eyeball would go, very cute indeed! I remember loving the large oysters and great local beer on tap. Highly recommend if you are in the Donegal area. The Donegal Castle is not far from here as well if you want to make a day out of it. Then roll over to the Reel Inn (it's just at corner near the bridge) where they have live music every night of the week and usually a good crowd. As a local (or ex-local) going in here for the 1st time I felt like I'd walked into Deliverance (google it), some odd folk from the bogs, townies, rockers, and maybe a few fellas barred from all the other pubs in town, and then mixed in is usually a load of English tourists, and surprisingly it works! Everyone's having the craic, these bog critters are friendly and are trying to wind me up, we'll all supping our drinks and enjoying the music, the tourists are dancing away, and usually it's a great night, and everyone's good and drunk by the end of the night and I mean drunk. Sometimes the music is hit-or-miss, sometimes it's a bit of jam session, other times it's quite good. On quite nights there may not be many musicians there and the owner get's up and play. And both him and the missus are decent friendly folk. I just wish they poured a better Guinness or had a nice Heff-Weisse. ;)
