The general appearance of the diner looked to had been renovated and cleaned up in the recent past. On the way in you are first walked into the pastry display and open windows kitchen. In general the place is clean and well maintained. The Mrs ordered mozzarella cheese stick as an appetizer and the steak and cheese with sweet potato fries for her main course, and I ordered the Molly Mooberry Burger with onion rings. The Molly Mooberry Burger was a unique experience seeing that it was a burger, fried egg, bacon and cheese in between two grill cheese sandwiches. The mozzarella cheese sticks were served warm... they were flavorless, lackluster, and definitely came out a commercial size freezer box. The sweet potato fries were served in a large quantity and were okay. The steak and cheese was adequate. Overall, her meal was 'okay', and 'nothing special'. The Molly Mooberry Burger was order 'medium' with the fried egg 'over easy'. It all came out well done. No pink center, no runny yoke.... The onion rings were good. Total cost $57.00. Seems like a lot for a countryside diner. Over all we both feel that the food was heavy and greasy. The waitress was nonchalant, lackadaisical, and preoccupied beyond her abilities ad a waitress. We will not be talking about this place in the future and definitely not stopping back by when we are in Augusta. read more

I have traveled very far to come to Maine and looking for a diner open on labor day weekend wasnt very easy. Decided to drive an hour to this place, Countryside diner. From the outside it looks like a house--but do not be deceived because this place is not mediocre. There is handcarved wood decorations on the walls that i really liked personally. Our waitress and server were both so friendly and outgoing it really made the whole thing great! The ham club with bacon and lettuce is delicous, and the fries were great too--just make sure to salt them yourself if you dont like unsalted fries lol. The price was also reasonable. Overall, great place! Would probably come back. read more

We had breakfast with our friends for my birthday. Everything was delicious! Our waitress was helpful and friendly. Glad we gave this place a 2nd chance! This was our first visit here since the restaurant opened earlier this year. The place has been fixed up since it was Rebecca's place a few years ago. The service was good, our food came out quickly, and our waitress was friendly. The bakery area, in particular, looks quite nice and they seem to have a wide selection of baked goods that can be picked up to go or be bought as part of your meal. We got a cannoli to go, which was good, but quite sweet. For our meals, we got the Molly Mooberry burger, the haddock sandwich, the beef tips, and the chicken n biscuits. The burger was good, but a little awkward to eat given the grilled cheese 'buns' were square and the burger round. The fries were ok, but quite dry, so they needed to be eaten quickly before they got both cold and dry. The haddock was probably the best thing we ordered. The fish was cooked perfectly and the batter was crisp and light, but stuck to the fish well without falling apart. It was a little difficult to eat as a sandwich due to its large size, so we might recommend getting a haddock basket instead, but was overall a hit. The beef tips were cooked to the perfect amount ordered and came with a large portion of onions and mushrooms, which were delicious. The baked potato side was good, but was also dry. The chicken n biscuits were not worth getting. It seemed odd they offer this on the menu given the contrast in quality of this item compared with others we ordered. It was canned veggies and canned chicken in a gravy on top of mediocre biscuits and powdery-smooth mashed potatoes. read more

I can't remember when I've had such bad food and service. We just returned from breakfast at the Countryside Diner in Augusta, a place that used to have really good service and decent food. As we were seated in the restaurant, we walked past several tables that needed clearing. Once seated, our server fumbled through our order. She asked if we wanted our "dry toast" grilled, had to check the menu as we ordered, etc. We thought she was new, but apparently she was just inept. It took well over 45 minutes to recieve our food. When I asked what the hold up was, she said that the cook was doing her best and had a big table (party of 7) to cook for. It had been so long since we ordered, she couldn't remember who had what. Once we traded plates, I noticed thar my eggs were undercooked, the sausages were swimming in grease, and the dry toast was scorched on one side and not toasted on the other side. Of course, our waitress never came back to check on us or offer more coffee or water ( both of which were near empty) My husband flagged her down for the check. Then, to add insult to injury; She returned with the check, ignored my husband's outstretched hand, and flopped the guest check holder at me, hitting my arms which were resting on the table. Walking in I noticed that the restaurant was clean and was nicely decorated. We sat ourselves but the two waitresses noted that someone would be with us shortly. We didn't have to wait long to order our drinks and meals. Our meals were served rather quickly and our waitress was very good about refills. My husband and I had ordered the same breakfast: ham, which was a good portion and very tasty, eggs done perfectly medium, toast was grilled nicely. My husband had hash browns and I had the breakfast potatoes, which I didn't care for, some pieces were a little underdone, some were a little overdone, and all very bland. On the way out, we also bought a lemon Bismarck and a blueberry turnover for later and they were yummy. The breakfast potatoes weren't to my liking but overall very good. We would come back for breakfast and even try a lunch or dinner sometime as well. read more

This was only the second time we've been there since they reopened from Rebecca's. A simple pick-up order today, which they got wrong, again. No biggie. I immediately turned around and pointed this out...only to have to their halfwit cook having a hissy fit in the back because he'd gotten it wrong. His "solution," obviously, was to rinse the wrong sauce off in the sink, roll it in the right sauce and serve that, which was of course now cold (and several pieces less than the order should have been. ) When I called to complain all I got was "sorry, hope your day goes better..." There are plenty of quality places to eat around Augusta, definitely check them out. Countryside Diner can suck the fart out of a dead monkey. read more

The restaurant was clean and completely refurbished from Rebecca's Restaurant it was before. We had heard how great the food was so my husband and myself stopped by one day and ordered lunch. We knew the waitresses as she had worked at Friendly's before and had seen her quite often. However that about all I can say for the place, my husband order the Spaghetti and Meatballs and I had the Grilled Haddock instead of Fried Haddock. The Meatballs were terrible no flavor at all and tough also the spaghetti sauce had no flavor to it at all. Now for the grilled Haddock if you could find some on the the plate 3 very small pieces, the beets were ok but the applesauce came from a can and had no flavor very bland. The meal was not worth the $40 tip included that we paid. We will never go back and will advise our friends to avoid eating at this restaurant read more
