We have been learning about it at home, so I wanted my 5 year olds to get some eyes on real pottery, and when I shared this with the two ladies behind the calendar, they offered to give us a brief tour of their workshop! They were both very warm and friendly and even happy to let both of my daughters have a treat for the shop cat. Lots of lovely pottery was for sale. A good amount is made in house, but about 30 other artists also sell their wares at the shop. There were many pieces we would have loved to have brought home or purchase as gifts. I have acquired many beautiful pieces of their work over the years but after visiting the shop recently I was beyond disappointed. The pieces were not functional, practical, or enjoyable to look at and both of the ladies that had worked there for years were no longer working. I cannot imagine why the new creator of these pieces thinks that anyone would want to display something so ugly in their home, let alone use such pieces when entertaining guests. Eyeballs on everything?!? Leave the abstract art for the walls and go back to creating beautiful functional pottery like Lisa and Sherry used to make! The atmosphere was cold, almost like the shop worker was irritated that I was browsing. I never experienced such rudeness or saw tacky pieces before Mr. Ayers retired. Tacky ugly pieces and snotty customer service is so disappointing. Saddens me to say that I will not be supporting the unique and creative pottery shop that once was....

You can pick up a sandwich at the deli counter if you want a quick lunch. In the back of the store, were locally made jams and pickles. Old time sodas filled a shelf. Candy by the pound covered a wall. The store was packed with food, candy and gifts. Prices were reasonable to high, but what I'd expect in a tourist town. The staff did not engage, but they were busy with other customers. There is free street parking, but that fills quickly. This is a great stop between museum tours.
