Cleverly named Nessun Dorma (english: none shall sleep) serves their own brand of coffee, and are in the process of installing their own roaster in the corner of the cafe. Update: So having been open a few weeks I've visited 7 or 8 times now, and sadly the experiences haven't been all that good. The quality of the coffee has ranged from good, to very average, and wait times for a dine in coffee have been from 5 to 15 minutes. It seems the quality of the coffee depends on who is behind the machine - either a barista or one of the counter staff trying to make coffee. I'd suggest this once suburban cafe now branding itself as a coffee roaster really needs to look at who is making its coffee, as most of the coffees I've experienced don't reflect what I think the owners are trying to achieve.

Nessun Dorma is a suburban cafe in Yeronga that, amongst the convenience store, Baker's Delight and Chompers Take-Away, you wouldn't expect to be of such a high quality. I certainly wouldn't expect a niche roaster to be served here. We stopped on a Saturday morning for coffee and were easily able to find a seat despite the hub-bub of conversation happening outside. Our coffees were delivered promptly in exceptionally beautiful ceramic cups (PS. Bonus points if anyone can tell me where I can get these from) and my only misgiving was ordering it as a flat white. The roast was hidden in all the milk and I'd definitely order it as a long black next time.

Sometimes I am too rushed (or lazy) to make a coffee in the morning but I do need a caffeine fix to get me going most days. Wicked Brew is super convenient and the coffee is surprisingly good. It is made strong. If you don't like a strong coffee, ask for a single shot or an extra sugar. I do like it strong though. Fast and organised service too which is exactly what I want from a drive thru.

As is so true in life there was no ominous music playing in the background we skipped blissfully by this little hole-in-the-wall. Upon having a less then stellar coffee at another establishment we decided to give the Cheeky Bean a go on our way back to the office. This isn't a full review, its our impression brought about by an inability to scratch our coffee itch. The Cheeky Bean has that great West End alternative vibe, the staff seem passionate about their brew and the coffee is mellow and full of flavour. Our coffee was a take-away so in the interests of science we will need to return at some point to try this lovely coffee without the cardboard cup. Overall we would say great taste without the punch.

Located in a very busy little suburban centre on a very busy suburban road. Stomp is the best looking shop in the block. Not big, but cute and functional. Lots of different types of seating inside and out. Food and menu looks diverse and delicious. But we just needed coffee. Beans by Veniziano. Coffee was well made and a perfect temperature. We did sneak in a coconut macaroon that was divine. Staff are relaxed and friendly. Parking is right out front, so it was a bit noisy out there. Choice seating inside for sur.

I went in to Caffeine with high hopes, having walked past and seen the sign in the window about their coffee winning an award. A friend and I went in early in the morning when the cafe was busy (not full, but busy) and ordered our coffees at the counter. After explicitly stating that we would be having here and not taking away, we were asked to take a seat wherever we pleased. After getting caught up in our conversation, it wasn't until 20 minutes had past that we realised we hadn't received our coffees. A pleasant reminder seemed to budge them along, but when our coffees were delivered they were in takeaway cups. Hmmm. We told the waitress our qualm to which she replied "Oh sorry, do you want to wait for another one?". Another 20 minute wait wasn't really on the agenda, so we took our coffees and headed off a little disgruntled. Had it tasted good, there would have been some forgiveness on our part. The coffee was burnt and bitter and tasted over extracted. Needless to say I've not been back since, and given the fact that our coffee was as disappointing as it was, I wouldn't dare attempt the food. Ho-hum indeed.

Both the breakfast and lunch menus are simple, but sounds delicious and come at reasonable price for the corporate army who own the city on a weekday. I felt as though the cafe lacked ambience and personality, but I can't say whether that was perhaps because of the time of day I was there (around 2pm). Pourboy is a cool little joint, but it's not somewhere I would spend a few hours with a book. If I was a 9am-5pm girl it might be a different story. So I ducked in and was welcomed with a relaxed grin and a "how's your day going, what can I get you?". Things were off to a cracking start. I ordered my obligatory long black and eyed the selection of homemade banana bread, freshly baked muffins and variety of focaccias. I was also pleasantly surprised to see an assortment of gluten-free treats - it can become tricky for people who suffer from intolerance to find a damn-tasty morsel in the city. The barista encouraged me to take a seat and said she'd bring the coffee over to me. So I grabbed a newspaper and settled into a table, surrounded by other city folk who were busily completing the day's Sudoku and nutting out business deals. I felt that I could spend the whole day tucked away in this cafe, as the coffee machines shield you from the mayhem taking place on Adelaide Street. The chilled out music transports you to a happier place (think Dido, Jack Johnson, Angus and Julia Stone). The coffee arrived quickly - beneath the thick, dark crema lurked a robust, and perfectly strong quality coffee. Extract makes a mean flat white - strong and tasty, a coffee to return for. But drops the ball with unfriendly staff, charging more to 'drink in', and excuding about as much atmosphere as a dimly lit alley at night. Sugar 'n Spice cafe is the antitheses of Extract - a homely, welcoming place, with friendly staff but pretty unremarkable coffee. In a perfect world these two coffee shops would get together and give birth to Extract Sugar 'n Spice. That is a coffee shop I'd give 5*s to. In the meantime I'll just have to get take way from Extract and drink it in Sugar 'n Spice.
