Just when I thought downtown Provo couldn't get better, I discovered the Covey Center and have another reason to travel down to Happy Valley. This cozy venue packs a punch and does a fantastic job of hosting musical events. The ushers are friendly and efficient-they made sure to get people in and out timely so we could enjoy the show and then be on with our lives. My only complaint, as shared by others, is the parking situation. There's not much by way of street parking and what is available gets gobbled up quickly. As long as the nearby businesses don't mind sharing, you can park a block away and walk. No big deal when the weather is nice. read more

I really like where this place is located, and the potential has is great for impacting the visual and the performing arts within Utah county. Unfortunately, I find that they typically are hitting miss with their performances, and certainly a long ways off from the ideal gallery space for (artist) in the community. I wish they would approach things with a more professional eye and pain as much attention to the visual arts as they do to the performing stages. As you come in to the left where they used to be Brian kershisnik's work is now a mishmash of photos on canvas that are not in a professional way in few of them if any of our level. Is this lack of detail that make it less than it should be to really be an advocate for the arts. read more

The ballet performance of Wizard of Oz was excellent; however, I bought tickets in the "mezzanine". It wasn't a mezzanine. It was a floor just a bit above the main floor so we were a bit disappointed. Also, the seats are from another time when people were smaller. We sat with our arms crunched to our sides, and the poor woman next to me had to sit sideways on one butt cheek during the entire performance. She looked so uncomfortable. . We won't be going there again. read more

Hidden gem! We love the productions here and always have a great evening at the performances we've attended. So fun to watch actors in an intimate space and wonderful getting to chat with them after each performance. Great value. Highly recommend to anyone wanting an evening out read more

Last night we watched a beautiful performance and the theatre is pretty but I was not impressed with the seating. It seems the grade isn't enough to get a good view of anyone is in front of you. Which is annoying for kids and parents. Other than that it's a beautiful center and the stage was really big and nice. read more

This place use to be great. But new construction of buildings has taken the majority of parking. On a cold snowy day we had to park over 1/2 a mile away. What a terrible venue this place has now become. read more

This review is exclusively for the Excellence in the Community series at the CC. In a word, awesome. This program celebrates local talent, from Irish bands to Mariachi music to Sinatra wannabes. It's free, it supports the locals, and it's high quality. I hate to leave this review because it's a little known secret and I don't want everyone in Provo to leave me without a seat. A new-ish addition to the area, the Covey Center for the Arts is an auditorium where plays, musicals, and dance shows are performed. It's a nice place: there's sort of a mini-art display inside to browse while you wait. A couple real nice leather couches you can sit in too. The auditorium is really nice - not overly huge - but big enough. And it's nice and new so it all still feels clean and fresh. - They're trying to class up the district, which is why this place is here! It's nice - I really liked going here. We just saw "Souvenir" in the black box theater in the Covey Center. It is the ideal intimate theater space. This two-person show was directed by J. Scott Bronson, who took tickets and announced the show. Now I confess: I've become inured to live theater; yes, it's true, and here's why. Once I asked a dear friend, "Why is it that just about everyone who wants to be in a play gets up and acts? It's not the same for music or visual arts. Most amateurs wouldn't dare get up and put out their work so boldly." "It's because everybody thinks they can act," he said, "whether they can or not." Perhaps that applies to amateur directors, too, so we've mostly stopped going to overlong, clumsy, badly directed plays. Scratch all that, though, after seeing "Souvenir." Theoretically, it had a good deal going against it: some bad reviews of the script and horrors! a two-person show! A recipe for clumsiness and disaster. However, watching this play brought me back to loving theater again, after these many long years...otherwise. The actors were so convincing: perfect timing, never breaking character, underplayed with just the right touch. The directing was impeccable. We were not alone at the end of the play, breaking into sobs. No spoilers here except to say that this was one of the most convincing Quixote themes I've ever loved since, well, since reading Don Quixote. Hurrah for Bronson and this charming play. Yeah, about the same as my last review. Nothing has changed year by year other than no the employees roam the building telling you to be quite (library like) and give stares & comments to those that aren't obeying their made up rules. If you don't like kids in your business then lock the performance down to 8+ ages. Otherwise, go do something productive with your time. read more

FYI their ticket site frequently crashes when tickets are about to become available. If you are planning on buying tickets online it is better to go in person. Also the box office manager thinks it is ok to open ticket sales 15 minutes early than online. Doesn't sound like a good working policy, but we are only their customers. read more

The staff is improperly trained. We were going to see "Thriller" which is a GREAT dance performance that we love seeing EVERY year. We found a mother and her teenage daughter sitting in our seats. The head usher who was a man in a blue shirt asked to see their tickets. Then he asked us to follow him to the ticket office, where the woman in charge confirmed OUR seats (the computer had our names on those seats) and asked to see the other set of tickets. HE REFUSED! His "comforting" words were, "Hey not too bad. This is the first time (talking about double selling seats) in how many years." REALLY!?!?! She demanded from him 3 times that she NEEDED to see the tickets. She told us and all of the people that were around to hear that the seats did indeed belong to us! The others were not supposed to be there. THE PEOPLE IN OUR SEATS HAD NO IDEA THEY STOLE OUR SEATS AND THEY WEREN'T GOING TO BE ESCORTED TO OTHER SEATS! WE WERE OFFERED WORSE SEATS!!! WE WERE BEING PENALIZED FOR BUYING THOSE SEATS!!! They offered to give us seats in the balcony even though we paid for main floor seats. WE HAD TO ASK FOR OUR MONEY BACK!!! They didn't offer it! Why would we choose to take worse seats when we paid for better??? There are only a few things that could have been wrong with the other tickets: 1) They went on the wrong night, 2) They were supposed to be at the earlier show or 3) They had fraudulent tickets. At any rate, squatters were allowed to sit in the seats that we paid good money for!!! Moral of the story: if you miss your show, all you have to do is go to another one and sit in the seats that are on your ticket, they don't care if you're there at the right time or day. It's sad to see such bad business associated with the Covey name. read more
