Have eaten at this location several times but it'll be a long time before I ever visit again. Stopped in for a To Go order of a 6 person family meal which is on their menu. I was told that although they had enough chicken to fulfill the order, they couldn't make a family meal due to us not dining in or ordering individual plates. This was at 6pm on a Saturday, prime dinner time. So apparently when they run low on chicken, they switch to only offering their higher dollar per person and dine in orders only. They verified that they actually had enough for the order, but wouldn't sell to me. Something to keep in mind if you've got your whole family in the car, expecting to get a meal. Might call ahead to see if they're over the threshold that allows them to sell chicken to you. Or just go elsewhere like we did. read more

Ordered take out tonight and when we got it home it was obvious the chicken had been cooked hours earlier and was old. We just happened to be in the area on their first night open to the public so it was pretty hopping. Employees were all super nice and helpful in helping us learn the ropes. The dark mean rotisserie chicken was moist and flavorful. And we enjoyed the fresh cut fries as well as the twice-baked potatoes. Yeah, I know, but they both sounded too good to pass up. If an establishment offers fresh cut fries, we're gonna order them. Americans should demand real food, not something from a bag in the freezer. Okay, off my soapbox. Anyway, it's nice that there's a fast casual option for healthy-ish food. I ordered a Southwest Chicken Salad. I think there might have been celery in it, so I'll have to omit that next time if that was the case. And the white meat chicken was kinda dry. Wonder if I can request dark meat chicken next time. But the salad had good lettuce - not iceberg like so many places have. it's just nice to know that such an option exists when you want to try to eat something healthy and fast. It's chicken. No special seasonings, no secret recipe, just chicken. The roll was out of the bag. I ordered the creamed spinach which was delicious. The baked mac and cheese was ok. Tea was bitter. Attempted to use the "unisex" bathrooms. In one of them someone must have had explosive diarrhea because the rim had evidence of streaking. In the other one, a man was the previous user as the lid was up. I looked around, yep there's the urine on the floor, no thanks. STOP with unisex bathrooms!!! Probably not going back. read more

We ordered cowboy chicken a few days ago and it had been awhile that we ate there. Just because they are not on our radar. We got the family meal, chicken and 3 sides for $25. The chicken was delicious and the sides were fresh and hot. We got the Mac and cheese, salad and fried okra. I wanted to add the fried okra was packaged between 2 tin pie plates with holes poked in to let the steam out so the okra wouldn't get soggy. Genius! It was prefect and crispy when we got it home. I've eaten here dozens of times since their opening in Sherman. I used to crave their enchiladas but today I reevaluated everything. The enchiladas were dried out on top and the sauce was watery and flavorless. My friend got the watermelon and cucumber salad. It was supposed to be cold and crunchy with feta cheese on it. There was not one hint of feta and no crunch either. The service was good but not great. I'm sad that one of my favorites has gone downhill. read more

We have ordered family style for 6 people a few times over the past year or so. It's one of our family's favorite meals. Tonight we finished up riding bikes and swung by to grab a to-go 6 person family meal. However, when my husband went inside to order he was told he couldn't purchase this item, which is clearly on the menu. He was told that only people dining in can have the family pack option. They do not offer it to take out or delivery, all of a sudden. He called later to talk with the manager who confirmed they no longer offer this meal type to anyone other than dine in customers. So they offered us to buy 5 individual plates, which would have cost a lot more than what we were planning to spend. We do just perfect with the 6 person family meal set up for our family of 5. Needless to say, we went through a less than satisfying drive-thru, since we had our three very hungry children in the truck. We will not be returning until they figure out that it is exactly the same to offer the 6 person family pack to us as take out as it is for dining in...except maybe less dishes and service for them. read more

My husband and I were in town for the weekend and decided to give cowboy chicken a try. I was a little disappointed with the portions, they seemed like very tiny chickens to us, but the food itself was delicious. I don't think I have ever had better chicken at a restaurant in my life. Seriously! I got the white meat plate and the meat was so moist, I'm still craving it days later. The mac and cheese was also super delicious and the apple cobbler was heavenly. I also liked that there was a peach tea option. The restaurant was clean, the employees were friendly and attentive, and the food was good. Place was clean, staff very friendly. They helped us with the menu as this was our first trip ever to a cowboy chicken. The fiesta chicken salad was fresh and tasty, and that's about it. Enchiladas were just ok, nothing special. The rotisserie chicken was a little dry, and flavor was a little off, thinking over cooked or been in the warmer pan for a while. French fries are good, but so are Whataburger's , okra frozen. Dessert , peach a little better than blackberry but both tasted dry and as if they were cooked yesterday or the day before. CC is local and I really wanted to like it, it just don't work for us. Sherman / Denison has over 100 places to eat, this one won't be on our return list. read more

I stopped after shopping and picked up Cowboy Chicken. Had picked up chicken there several times prior over time and really enjoyed it. The last two times I have gotten their family meals we have been sorely disappointed! The last time which was in Feb. 2023 the chicken was dry and the skin was cooked to the point it was so tough it was unchewable, like tough leather on the legs. My husband and I thought it was a fluke and brushed it off. Well I stopped last night on the way home March 23, 2023, I live in Oklahoma and picked up a whole chicken, two large sides and 4 rolls. First the girl at the register was pretty uninterested in taking my order, I had to repeat 3 items twice. when I got the order I put my order in an insulated bag to keep it warm and drove home. Hubby and I got ready to eat shortly after I got home and we plated our chicken up and it was dry and the drumsticks were so overcooked The outside layer was beyond jerky again! The rest of the chicken was dry and I think had been sitting forever! then there is the size! It was the smallest chicken I've ever seen. Pathetic!! We have visited three times now, over the course of a couple of years, and unfortunately we have yet to have a pleasant experience. Today when I asked the cashier for suggestions on the sides, she told me she's a picky eater and doesn't know. Ordered our food, had to request for someone to clean a table off for us, and then had to ask for them to refill the ice machine. It took over 20 minutes for our food to come out, and when it did, we were not impressed. I ordered a quarter chicken plate, and my piece of chicken was burnt and extremely dry. My husband ordered the crispy drumsticks, which were cold. He also ordered Mac n' cheese, which was old and dry (we know this because I received a side from a new batch and it tasted and looked completely different). The rolls were so dry we could have crumbled them. Not the worst meal I've ever had, but we will definitely not be returning. read more

This place is a joke. Going down hill quick. We used to visit all the time and they slowly keep changing their policies and cheating people out. If you sign up for a fundraiser the policies shouldn't changed halfway through it and you no longer accept the coupon offered. What a surprise!! A very pleasant surprise. We'd gotten a punch card with a Cowboy Chicken coupon. I thought this was going to be just another chicken place. Boy was I wrong. My husband had the chicken enchiladas with the sides of rice and beans. He loved it. It was flavorful with just enough spice. I got the Laredo...chicken sandwich with fried. It was one of the best chicken sandwiches I've had. It was covered with melted cheese and well seasoned guacamole. The rotisserie chicken was moist and almost melted in my mouth.
