I believe that in selecting a great church it starts with the messages in the sermons. The messages should stick with you like going to a musical, a person should walk away whistling a tune, but here the messages/sermons should move a person which they do! This little church is up the the mountains in southern Colorado. The pastor delivers his messages with heart! I am also moved by the passion that the congregation has for one another! (The pastor is also a pretty good fly fisherman, so he can reach out to those that can relate to fly fishing.) The locals come from all over the valley, even though it is a small church with a great deal of that small town passion. The fellowship is grand as well! I would highly recommend to check out this small, cute little church with a heart of gold! Set your fly rod a-side on any Sunday morning and be prepared to get your soul warmed!

We made a weekend trip down to visit this place especially. Now just a heads up, if your using…read moreMapquest or your gps, make sure you look at your directions ahead of time. The location of this place can be a little tricky, once you get off the main highway, unless you park at the bottom in The town of San Luis. A couple things to keep in mind before you go here. If it's summer or spring time, bring water, it can get a little hot over here, you will want to stay hydrated, especially while walking the stations. Also, make sure you go to the restroom before you go, it's a good chance the ones there may be closed. A lot of people get the stations of the cross, mixed up with a memorial on the north west end. However the stations of the cross start on the south end at the bottom of the hill, and you walk up the trail towards the church. Now, I'm not sure about snakes, like a previous reviewer stated, but it couldn't hurt to be cautious because of the hot weather during spring and summer.

We started at the Methodist Church in Rye and felt so uncomfortable there we left in time to make…read moreit to Valley Community Church for the 10:30am service. Everyone was so friendly. They had an activity bag ready for our 10 year old guest, which they sought her out in the pew to give, and though there weren't any permanent resident babies there, a nursery care provider found us in the narthex and took great care of the toddler so we could continue on in the service distraction-free. They sing out of hymnals, which is nice, and the sanctuary feels very traditional. I'm not sure if they do communion or not, but they didn't do it this time. Many people spoke to us. Many people inquired about who we were and where we came from. Many people hugged us and invited us back. The thing that made me feel comfortable immediately, besides the friendly faces, was the fact that Pastor Clyde prayed for the victims of the Orlando mass shooting right out the gate of his prayer blessing the congregation before the service. Clyde didn't preach that day because a missionary was visiting, but we were so happy there we'll surely be back this coming Sunday and make this our church home while we're here for the summer. I made a phone call to another church in the area, and if I had to guess, this is the most "liberal" church in the valley. If you're queer or alternative in any way, I'd bet you'd feel welcomed here--we did.
