With one child born with cerebral palsy every 15 hours, it is one of the most common physical disabilities in Australia. Currently the government gives approximately 18 CENTS of support per week to each family with a child who has cerebral palsy.
It can be hard on the family, especially for the hip pocket. Supporting someone with cerebral palsy can cost up to $100,000 per year. Sometimes even more, depending on the level of care the person needs.
The Cerebral Palsy League of Queensland are the first port of call for a lot of families and individuals living with CP and other physical disabilities. They are able to provide carers, social services, speech therapy, physiotherapy, and specialised equipment for those in need. The Cerebral Palsy League of Queensland run art workshops and other social events too. If you've ever heard of Picnic In The Park, you're already familiar with the The Cerebral Palsy League.
Because The Cerebral Palsy League is a not for profit, it also needs funding, which is where you come into things. They don't have the volunteers to door knock, or set up stands in shopping centres. They fundraise over the phone and via the post.
Give these people your money. Even if it's a dollar, it all counts. With ongoing support, those with cerebral palsy have made leaps and bounds. We can help those with no voice to speak, we can help those who can't walk take their first steps. We can help to create a caring community.
