A pretty good representation of the franchise. I was greeted and seated immediately on this Tuesday night in December just before 5:30 PM. My waitress arrived soon after and took my drink order. After serving my drink, she took my order for the Country Fried Steak dinner with a side of mashed potatoes and gravy (customized with same gravy as is on the steak) and premium upgrade to a salad. All of these items were served in a timely manner, were properly prepared, exhibited quality ingredients, and tasted good. The one exception were the biscuits, which were dry and hard. I was unpleasantly surprised at how bad they were, and they are not typical of the franchise. But this was the only negative. Long wait in a not so busy restaurant. Think our server was new and a tad bit nervous. The barrel has changed their dress code from uniforms to jeans a shirt and their traditional aprons. The food was not good, bacon was rubbery obviously baked in the oven not on the grill. The biscuits were cold as were my eggs. No table visits by the manager, dirty tables everywhere? Our server dropped our check and we never seen her again. Cracker Barrel used to be country fresh, things have changed? With so many restaurants either they have cut back on staffing and kitchen help. I can't explain the difference but it's not the same food or staff...they are spiraling downward. I have always enjoyed Cracker Barrel for breakfast. Pancakes and hash brown casserole are fantastic. Learned tonight that I have been missing out. Chicken noodle soup, can't decide if the thicker noodles or the broth was the better of the two. I will order chicken noodle soup every time moving forward. Meatloaf was great. On 9/30/2025 at the Dalton,GA location my wife ordered the beans and greens and had ask for chow-chow and ketchup the ketchup was already at the table and never received the chow-chow. When she started eating her meal she got a spoonful of the beans and found a hair in her food and could not finish her meal. We showed the waitress the hair and told her she was not going to eat the rest and the waitress said she could get her something else but my wife lost her appetite and wanted nothing else. I must say, it's been a while since I've been to a Cracker Barrel as of late. My family and I was shopping in Dalton and decided to go to Cracker Barrel. Because of past experiences, I was relucted. To my surprise this was the best service we have ever had at CB. The young waiter who served us was very polite, soft spoken, and attentive. Everything we asked for was received without hesitation. We all ordered fish. I ordered the Friday special with Steak Fries and corn. My wife ordered Grilled fish with green beans and carrots. My mom ordered the 3 piece catfish with okra and something else, I forgot. There was a problem with my moms order. for some reason her fish didn't get put in the computer or was taken. either way, the waiter brought us our food and apologized to my mom. She just asked for her sides while she waited. But quickly the fish was brought out with no waiting. Her Okra didn't taste good so she asked our waiter for carrots instead. The waiter pleasantly apologized and brought her carrots. Her meal was cooked great. My wife's food was cooked to order and hot. It was very delicious. My fried cod and steak fries along with the corn was very flavorful and tasted great. We all had the cornbread and took some home. My wife looked around and the ambience was great. All of the wait staff was professional with their customer and was always hustling. It was great to see the proficiency and training that the management taught their staff. My wife ordered catfish with dressing for her sides with water to drink. That meal was perfect. I ordered country fried steak with dumplings and macaroni and cheese with water to drink. The sides were horrible (clumped up dumplings that i had to add water to just to eat it and the macaroni had no flavor and I told our server. She said she would tell the kitchen but didn't offer to fix the problem. I asked for more water and she forgot to bring it out to me so I had to stop eating till I got some drink. I enjoyed dining at this Cracker Barrel, which prepared the food consistent with the home style food I've enjoyed at other Cracker Barrel locations. The rustic feel, the knick knacks on the walls , the smell of a real wood burning fireplace all are so comforting, making me feel at home though on the road. Our service was okay my daughter had chicken fingers and pancakes she forgot syrup and her ranch, she forgot my order of onion pedals, they forgot the dressing for the salad. We eat at Cracker Barrel a lot while traveling. The facility seemed to be in good shape. Playing evangelical music upon arrival was triggering. I asked the hostess if they made her play that. Her reply, "I can't change it." She seated us. We were the only people in the restaurant, but waited for a while to meet our rude server. Perhaps Cracker Barrel would benefit from training their staff on interpersonal skills. She honestly made me lose my appetite, so I'm just drinking coffee. My partner's food seems to be satisfactory. I'll give it 4 stars because my burger was great and my husband loves his chicken. But our waitress was terrible. Cold and no personality. I think her name was Layna. Stood over us while we were reading the menu. Obviously we just got there and weren't ready. One of the best parts of Cracker Barrel are the biscuits and corn bread. April 2024 FIRST VISIT to any "CB" SINCE COVID; Dalton was an overnight stay returning to Tampa. Wife ordered fried chicken breast with biscuits and okra. Okra well prepared and served temperature hot, chicken a little dry on star scale above it would land "3 stars". I ordered GRANDMA'S SAMPLER. All items were well prepared and served temperature hot. This earns the 4 star rating above. Now our server, He was a young man, junior in high school named Jose. He was absolutely wonderful. Professional, courteous, polite, responsive to additional asks with a balanced presence visiting the table. If you are a Cracker Barrel fan, stop reading this post now. It will only upset you... Capital "F" for Capital Failure at this location. Unfortunately for me, this location sums up all Cracker Barrel dinner time menu as far as I am concerned. I called and ordered take out, I was staying across the parking lot and didn't feel like dining in. The lady that took my order gave me hope, the chicken fried chicken is delicious she exclaimed. I ordered my three sides, mash potatoes, pinto beans and broccoli. When should I walk across the parking lot and pick up my order? I asked. I'm about 20 minutes she said. I gave them 25 minutes to be on the safe side and when I got there, the cashier asked me my name for the order and took my money. 20 minutes later the manager noticed me waiting and asked for my name again and said he's going in the back to check on my order. 6 minutes after that another employee comes out and asked me what did I order? At this point I'm not even sure I want the meal now. 5 minutes later the employee who asked what I ordered came out with my bag. I checked my order, do you have honey? (for the biscuits) No, we do not. Do you have salt and pepper packages, again NO. Do you have utensils? Let me go in the back and get you some,and then the cashier who took my order opened a compartment and there were napkins and utensils with salt and pepper packages inside them. I took my order to my room 25 yards from door to door. Sat down to eat immediately. Mashed potato cold, bland and the white gravy was thick clumpy and Luke warm. The pinto beans were bland and cold and they came in a separate container. The broccoli was warm and seasoned well. The chicken fried chicken was hot and crispy and I would have enjoyed it if they hadn't used the same bland, like warm, clumpy, white gravy they used for my mashed potatoes. I scrapped the gravy off, ate the chicken and broccoli and tossed the rest. Oh and then I opened this wonderful Coca Cola chocolate cake that the young lady who took my order said it was "fantastic". I will say this, fantastic was not the adjective I would use to describe that cake, nope it was dry, the icing was hard, it crumbled when you stuck your fork in it, it was the furthest thing from fantastic! (Not to mention that they give you a table spoon of vanilla ice cream to go with it. I wasted my time and my money dealing with Cracker Barrel, I will never eat there for dinner again. OK, So after my last review of this CB, Dalton, GA location. I decided to comeback. Not just bscause is my town's local crackle barrel but mainly I returned due to the fact that after my 2nd poor review of the restaurant, I was contacted by Cracker Barrel corporate management rep and he truly took the time to look into my review and see what went wrong during my past dining expirences. Now I am a simple gal, so I am smiling BIG TIME right now! Why you may ask? Well, because I never thought of big time management taking the time to read my review. This Ction alone makes me feel so validated and valued as a customer. IT REALLY SPEAKS TO THEIR Dedication and community! I felt that they wanted to improve their service, also I noticed their attention to detail and effort in understanding what went wrong with the focus on fixing it for future customers. at the end of that process. Prior to receiving the gift card I received a beautiful email acknowledging how I felt with a gift card!!!! and I have to say that's the reason that I decided to return in review it again. So to the corporate team: THANK YOU!!! Regarding my lunch visit today... It was still only give a 2 maybe a 3 star... the wait was very long and there was a huge line even to pay the bill which then would actually crowded the entrance to the dinning room and regarding the food it was the right temperature however the lunch meatloaf was literally about 2oz of food, so it was not very fulfilling. I would leave 0 stars if that were an option. The bathroom was nasty as someone urinated in the floor. I reported it to the management. When I went back in 30 minutes later as I was leaving, they still hadn't cleaned it up. They brought me a cold baked potato, the tea had been made yesterday and the service was horrible. We have had this exact experience four times now, and the only reason we went back was my mother likes the chicken & dumplings. It was so bad the last time that she doesn't want to go again either. I visited this Cracker Barrel at the right time. It wasn't busy so I was able to get a table as soon as I walked in. The service by my waitress was very attentive. menu items ordered were: green beans, pinto beans, corn, turnip greens, corn bread, biscuit and of course a sweet tea. All this food was country cooking at its best. I got chow chow for my pinto beans and pepper sauce for my turnip greens. It turned out to be a perfect combination. Went here on a Sunday morning, and despite it being pretty busy, the staff was great and friendly. We had two large table tops in front of us, but the wait time was not terrible. Wife got the French toast, and fried apples. Both of which were good. I got the fried breakfast. Biscuits, gravy, scrambled eggs, and country fried steak were all good. So im not sure why this type behavior is allowed by managers in a place that is supposed to be a family environment. This was for a mixed group of 6 people all with the usual ; sauce on the sides, can I swap this for that, not a standard menu order from any of us. My waitress Trish was very attentive, but she lacked personality when I tried to make conversation. As for my meal, I got Mommas pancake breakfast with sausage and two sunny side up eggs. The food was good but my pancakes were somewhat tough despite being drenched in syrup. I also asked for a cold diet root beer that was 3$ for one bottle, compared to 1.25$ in the lobby. If I could give it no stars I would. Cracker Barrel is a go-to place for us. So to write a disappointing review is bothersome for me. This particular store is usually known for quality service. Tonight they BOMBED big time. We got there a little before 9 and we had a 30 minute wait. We enjoyed visiting w ppl on the porch while we waited. They sat us and we had to wait a while for drinks. We had a newbie for a waitress, which was perfectly ok. We ordered our dinner and waited and waited for over 30min for it to get to our table. It was mostly right. She didn't verify we had everything we needed each time she came to the table. Then she disappeared. Meanwhile 5 yes I said FIVE waitstaff bussed their tables and served the other 2 tables w patrons. Not one ever looked at us so they wouldn't have to acknowledge we were there. My husband had to yell across the store to get someone to come over. Then they actually said loud enough for us to hear from the kitchen door all the way to the far corner "oh I forgot we had a table still here". Dinner was below average to top it off. When I went to pay for it I told the cashier I needed to speak with the manager (standing right next to her). He really wouldn't look at me and just kept saying he would "take care of it". "They were understaffed and slow". He "would retrain". I made it very clear that the service was incredibly unacceptable and short staffed was no excuse when staff was standing around. I don't care if I'm the first one in or last one out to be disrespected this way is totally not right. Below par for a Cracker Barrel. An empty parking lot at 8 a.m. should have been a clue. Flies in the restaurant and jelly dried on the table. 10 minutes to get drinks and 25 to get food. Hashbrown casserole appeared to be leftovers and ham was dry. Biscuits were fresh and bacon was perfect!! Gravy portion was exceptionally small ( All Cracker Barrels skimp on the gravy). Cashier was friendly but the hostess and server lacked any enthusiasm. My main criticism is over cleanliness. I witnessed a server, Trish, who properly cleaned a table with disinfectant.
