Another one bites the dust and another review written a bit too late. It's located at the Santa Anita Mall at the restaurant side with the valet parking. My friends and I dined here before I had to travel off to Fanime. Service was friendly. Food didn't take too long to come out. I do have to note that what I clearly remembered were that the lights were a quite bright and fluorescent. Strange random fact I know. For our dinner we got to share their smoked meats including their Texas style smoked brisket, smoked BBQ tri tip, and smoked chicken breast. As the name implies, each meat had a nice smoky flavor to it and the crispy charred bits were the best. Nothing overly salty or seasoned nor was anything too dry. Decent BBQ meats and definitely a lot for 3 people. For our sides we had their distinctly purple garlic herb mashed potatoes and some mac n cheese. Overall not bad and pretty standard. Showed up for a random mid week dinner after shopping. Our server this time was Bernadette and she was wonderful. Offered us free garlic bread since the kitchen was busy. Claimed she put our order in ahead of a neighboring larger party. Which we appreciated because orders seemed to have been taking a long time. We were satisfied with the majority of our food. Disappointed with the tiny side of fried Brussels that came out. Chapstick in photo for reference. We've been to Craft several times before. Had a lot of of good dining experiences at Craft by Smoke and Fire, especially during Happy hour and seeing my friends experience their creative alcoholic drinks (Burn the Ships $15 was very fun to watch!). We had loved their prime brisket quesadilla ($12), 1/2 pound pastrami ($14), M.A.C. rib ($32 with side upgrade $2 for chili), side of garlic and herb mashed potatoes ($5), and street corn. Their bread pudding dessert ($9) was pretty good. Service was usually excellent as well, though sometimes through no fault of the servers, things took a while to arrive. I haven't had any visit where the servers were nothing short of amazing. What had kept me from coming back was that they started tacking on a 3% fee to all bills without disclosing it at all. It wasn't like that for my first 4 visits and the lack of acknowledgement rubbed me the wrong way. While I'm bummed that they are no longer at the mall anymore, it was good while it lasted and hopefully another delicious restaurant can take its spot. read more

Came here for Mother's Day and surprisingly it wasn't busy, probably bc the AC wasn't working well so we were sweating during our meal. It was an extremely hot day, so we really didn't get to enjoy our meal. But besides the heat our food was amazing and so was the service. I expected more after looking on yelp. Maybe it was the time of day or day of the week, but nothing about this place left me thinking that I'd like to return. It was empty at 4pm on a Wednesday. Yet it took a good 15 minutes to get seated and another 10-15 to get server attention. The cocktails have cute names and for happy hour are B1G1F. Pretty sure that that's the only draw here. I got the Castaway. Awesome presentation, but I couldn't get over the smell of the glass. It smelled like it was washed with water sans soap. Onto the food.. ordered the cheese curds and asparagus fries as apps. Both were good but not life changing. Also ordered the $100 tomahawk that was noted to be 32 ounces with one side. Chosen side was waffle fries that were instantly cold. Feels like they were kept under a heat lamp. Presentation of the food wasn't what I hoped for. This really didn't feel like I was at a place that valued my patronage and wanted to leave me wanting to come back for more. Tried something new for my birthday and evidently failed. Ambiance - nice, clean and spacious restaurant. Warm and inviting casual vibe. Food - we ordered smoked beef ribs (3 pieces), sides of garlic herbed mashed potatoes and 3-cheese mac and cheese. We figured we'll order one dish first and order more, if we liked it. My hubby and I were actually shocked at the high rating of this place. The ribs were burned and had a large layer of fat underneath the only portion of meat. It felt like we were eating grease. It was salty. If we were not so hungry, we might not have eaten it. The sides came in small ramekins for $6.99 each. Both were very salty. We could have gotten a much more filling and better cooked sides for the same price at a classier restaurant like Lawry's. We did not finish them. They also added a 3% service fee. Service - we found the server on the indifferent side. In fact, we were never offered barbecue sauce. I had to go to her near the kitchen to ask for barbecue sauce. As a result of all of the above, we decided not to order any more even if we were still hungry. Overall, we were very disappointed with our experience here. It was such a letdown given the high ratings and especially because we were starving and left without being satiated. We were shopping at Santa Anita mall and found this restaurant and thru Yelp it had a high rating so we decided to check it out. It was not busy when we got there and we got seated around 10 min. Upon entering you can smell the strong scent of smoke most likely from all the delicious bbq and steak. Ambiance was good. We ordered a spinach artichoke dip with potato chips. The spinach artichoke was great and I loved the big chunks of the artichoke. The potatoes had nice seasoning. My husband ordered a Tokyo drift and loved it. The food took awhile to come out and we weren't sure why as when we were looking around others who came after us got there food the fastest. For entree: my husband got the portobello sandwich with waffle fries and the portobello was good. I got the birria taco and it was good. Consume was a lil salty for my liking. Also, one of my tacos was all fat and I let the server know and I was able to get a new batch which I wasn't expecting at all, I thought it was only going to be one. Id say 3.5 This restaurant has a lot of seating so good for big groups and the bar area is big with a lot of tvs for game watching. Good place to grab a drink. Came here on the weekend and there was no wait. It was pretty empty inside considering Cheesecake Factory and Benihana next door were packed. There is something about the lighting that throws the place off, not sure what it is just feels a little cold in there. We ordered the 6 coconut shrimp to start ($16) ultimate cheesesteak ($18), and bowl of brisket/tri tip chili ($13). The coconut shrimps were good but a little pricey for the amount of shrimp you get. The cheesesteak was on the smaller side and a tad dry, could have used more kewpie mayo. The chili is really hearty and good, but the Bowl size is small. I wonder how small the cup size is. Also if you get a baked potato, DO get it LOADED. Can't ever go wrong with butter, sour cream, bacon, cheese and chives. Came back again with the family but with 11 of us! We were seated in the back near the restroom at a large long table. I'm used to round tables and a lazy Susan when there's this many of us. It was a pretty busy night for a Thursday night, we didn't wait long to be seated when we arrived at 6pm. We ordered two all American tours and the brisket fries (since their nachos are gone!! We miss the blue nachos!!!!). The sides we ordered were: Corn: it was a bit dry but still flavorful Mashed potatoes: very creamy and dense Waffle fries: crispy and was still hot on arrival Brussels sprouts (premium): so good but we got lots of burnt pieces unfortunately Baked potatoes: the favorite of our elders and my aunt likes it with sugar Mac and cheese: was ok, wish it was cheesier The best meat we liked in order were the steak, short rib, two kinds of brisket, chicken. We only came here because the wait at Cheesecake Factory next door was 2 hours. So we reluctantly came here. The immediate seating availability and the half empty restaurant should've been a clue. For $180.27 this was THE WORST FOOD EVER!! Short rib - flavorless. Served lukewarm. I don't think they used any seasoning whatsoever. And it's supposed to be grilled or smoked. It tastes baked and not grilled. The mashed loaded potatoes were stiff and had some bits that taste like fried fat on top. The cornbread was very good, light and fluffy but cold. The BBQ chicken was advertised as grilled and smoked. Again flavorless with rubbery skin and ZERO season. Mom said the salmon was decent. The spinach dip was super stiff. Again lukewarm and served with potato chips rather than tortilla chips. Now let's get to the drinks. We ordered two Cadillac margaritas with salt. One glass had zero salt, the other had a slight dusting of black salt that you could barely see or taste. The flavor left much to be desired. We're gonna go home and make our own. For $12 a glass, they give you a shot glass worth of Chardonnay. I wanted to order dessert but i was so disappointed with the food, I changed my mind. Dropped in here for dinner while at the Santa Anita mall. We were seated fairly fast and checked out the menu. Our server, Bernadette, was exceptionally kind and pleasant. There was a larger party near us, and we were given free garlic bread due to the long wait for our food. The overall ambience was a bit noisy but nice. The music was loud, and all the televisions had NBA games playing to keep us distracted. Was here two weeks ago and found out it's now suddenly closed. I guess that explained why the entire restaurant looked so dim when I went here to eat? My last visit, I really wanted to just eat and leave cause my eyes were just not adjusting well to the dim lighting with the full grey interior of the place. This was my first time at Craft by Smoke & Fire. It's located in Santa Anita mall (The Shops at Santa Anita) next to Cheesecake Factory. There is plenty of parking. Service was wonderful. I feel bad that I forgot the name of the girl who helped us but she was very attentive and helpful. Food was great as well. I had a baldwin burger which came with double smashed patties, onions, dill pickles and spread. I skipped the cheese and peppers. And I chose garlic and herb mashed potatoes as a side. Parking can be tough depending on how busy the mall is and the restaurant itself is pretty big. The service was good, but it also wasn't too busy when we went. Not a fan of the lighting inside though.. and the colors of the interior kind of made it feel cold. The food came out quick. Ordered the Smoked Brisket Half Pound and the Ribs (forgot the full name since they changed menus before we went). I liked that the meat wasn't overly salty or overly drenched in sauce. They give a side of sauce as well. As for the sides, the mac and cheese was good, but the mashed potatoes weren't my fav. It wasn't as creamy as most mashed potatoes are. We tried out Craft Smoke and Fire for date night this past weekend and surprisingly it was pretty empty when we arrived around 5PM. The place started filling up about 45 mins later with many people coming for drinks after work. The restaurant is located at the Santa Anita mall right next to the Cheesecake Factory and valet booth with many parking spaces, but it does get very busy in this lot because of the mall. Our server was nice, and offered some good suggestions since it was our first time. We ordered the loaded baked potato that was topped with brisket, the cranberry and goat cheese half salad, and the brisket mac and cheese. Everything was decent, and i really loved the salad. Once the restaurant started getting busy we did have a few long periods of waiting for our server since he had such a huge section go care for, and we never got any refills. Came here on a Saturday night around 8 PM for a party of 4. It wasn't as busy as I thought it would be. This place is located right next door to The Cheesecake Factory, where Wood Ranch used to be, right in the Santa Anita Mall. The night started with some cocktails and appetizers. We each ordered a cocktail, which we all agree was decent. I ended up with the Martini Americano (their version of an espresso martini, essentially cold brew martini). We actually got a complimentary garlic bread which was nice. We also ordered the fried chicken sandwich with a side of mac and cheese, rack of lamb with chimichurri, and half-pound brisket. All of which were good. The server was very attentive and did note that they were going to revamp their whole drink menu. We were intrigued by the Duck Around and Find Out drink which came in a bath tub and a rubber ducky. Nice touch, but you couldn't take it home. Personally, I think the food presentation looks better than it taste (not that the food tastes bad). Overall I'd give this place a solid 4 stars. Would I come back again? I came here on a Friday around 730 and we were seated right away. The place was relatively busy with a lively atmosphere. The server came by and took our drink order. When she came back we were ready to order and just got played to share. The lulu lime cocktail was crisp and refreshing. The tri tip was good and I especially liked the assortment of sides that gave it more variety of taste. The chicken sandwich was flavored well but I wish we got it more spicy. We the medium which the server described as "cayenne." The brisket on the nachos were tender and juicy. My favorite was the rack of lambs. It was cooked medium rare/rare with chimichurri on top and was sooo flavorful I wanted more !! All in all the food was solid. A friend and I arrived here quite late after the nearby Lantern Festival. I was pleased to know they were one of the few restaurants that were open on the later side on Sunday within this shopping center. Since we were just having a late snack we did not order too much. We had the birria quesadilla which was packed with beef and cheese, with the outside of the tortilla browned with shredded cheese and also a creamy sauce. They managed to add a lot of texture to a simple item. The pickled red onions added a great bit of acidic contrast and freshness. We tried to order the ube ice cream but they were out (towards the end of service). Our server was wonderful, engaging in some conversation and checking on as many times. Just scroll down and most of the first page is 3 stars and less. We came in on a Sunday night and there was NO ONE despite the mall over flowing with people. We got a booth and ordered a family platter with bbq meats. The beef ribs were way over cooked and WAY too salty. Brisket was also overly tough and not particularly fatty. Corn bread was decent if not overly sweet, almost cake-y. Chicken was decent. Brussel spouts were bitter and overcooked. You get the picture. For the price, it's just not worth it. Our server who  was very friendly and genuinely warm too. We ordered the following; - Brisket Mountains High Loaded Fries It was divine and the portion was huge. It is a must order item! - Short Rib Birria Quesadilla. The meat was juicy and very flavorful. - Smoked & Grilled BBQ Tri Tip Roast, the meat was juicy, it needed supplemental orders to.enhance the meal. - Brisket Burritos (to go). It was humongous, and delish. - Shrimp Tacos (3 of them), the Tacos were perfectly seasoned and delicious. Since our visit, I am still  craving their shrimp tacos. I am going to begin with a take-out order approximately 3 weeks ago. First time I ever had the food and my husband & I enjoyed the Brisket & I had Lauren's Salad w/ dressing on the side. The food was delicious so we decided to go today for lunch for my birthday! BIG mistake we made!! I will start w/ ambiance: One other couple there at 1:09PM. Music playing & not busy. Manager Ashley sat us & gave the table to Kelci G. We asked for coffee as we looked at the menu. NO coffee made so we had to wait. NO half & half for the coffee just packets of powdered creamer or milk for the coffee. We placed our order based on some of Kelci's suggestions and waited. Received water. We ordered Appetizer to have first; Smoked cheese curds breaded & fried with their ranch dressing. I ordered the "Brisket & Grilled cheese Sandwich" with "street" corn & my husband ordered the "Baldwin Burger" w/ mac & cheese for the side for our entrees. Coffee arrives WITH the cheese curds. Okay...so the cheese curds had ZERO smoke flavor and were deep fried dripping in oil and they were in a big lump! A small amount of ranch that was very watery (most likely from all the oil) drizzled on top. By this time three other tables have come in. Small parties of 1 guy, one couple, & table of three so still not busy. Our entrees arrive and the greasy cheese curds are left on the table. I wish I took a pic of the worst grilled cheese sandwich I have ever had the displeasure of eating. Beef brisket "wrapped" in dark brown burned cheese with barbecue sauce then a glob of the same sauce between the burned cheese and the oily bread so the bread was soggy! So where on the menu does it say that the cheese is actually grilled separately until it is dark brown & folded around brisket!! Disgusting saltiness & just not good. No melted cheese or cohesiveness with the sandwich. Street Corn: this is their version, Oily, salty, mushy with these weird breaded deep fried onions that were also limp & not fried in hot enough oil that were randomly lying on top of a cup of the corn! Couldn't even eat it. My husband's burger was just okay. Not awful but a bit overcooked & his mac & cheese was dry, salty and not the nice creamy mac & cheese it should be. He said it was so salty that is all he could taste. She came by after I took one disgusting bite of the sandwich & I told her how bad it was. Asked for a HALF Lauren's salad & waited over 15 mins. so my husband was DONE with his food. I was told there was only one cook on!!! The place wasn't even busy. NO refills on coffee had to ask. Asked for a to go box for the salad. A salad that was so saturated with dressing it was inedible! (I have attached a pic) Ruined my birthday lunch and they had the nerve to actually charge me for the half salad!! A salad I could not eat. The manager says well I took the corn off "YOU DIDN'T LIKE" as if to say it was good and I just didn't like it! Lol...unreal! I am a gourmet cook and my husband & I know good food and know when a chef, or cook has the skills to make food properly. Whoever was cooking needs a crash course on how to do it properly. Came for one thing and one thing only: their brisket. Ordered to-go at around 4 PM on a Tuesday and was directed to order and wait at the bar. It's a fairly large restaurant situated in the Santa Anita Mall, and at that time of day the bar was the only spot that seemed to house any visitors. 10 minutes later, I was served. At $18 a plate, I expected my meal to be nothing short of delicious and it certainly delivered. My two large pieces of brisket were dripping with juices to the point I didn't need to use any of the provided barbecue sauce (which provided an equally delicious experience). Cornbread was fluffy and actually had a strong cornbread taste, which I appreciated. Pickles and pickled onions were a nice touch. I've been to Craft by Smoke and Fire multiple times now both in Pasadena & Arcadia. It was always a nice place to have a casual and fun dinner with drinks. This most recent time, I went with my family for my father's birthday. We ordered the Craft BBQ Salad and All the Smoke Family Platter. We really enjoyed the craft bbq salad as it had a delightful flavor with the dressing and it felt really light before we dug into the family platter. The family platter was amazing! The prime brisket was delicate. The lamb melted in your mouth. The short rib had amazing texture and flavor! Although the food was good, the service was underwhelming to say the least. The restaurant was practically empty with 8-10 employees. It took us 15 minutes to get seated. Waters didn't come until our family platter came... Our server only tended to us when ordering and placing our food. When it was time to pay, the server was talking with another employee for 40 minutes. Yes, 40 minutes. We tried to ask another server but they said only the one waiting our table and close our check. We spent about 2 hours during our last visit and 1 hour of it was waiting even though the restaurant wasn't even at 10% capacity. Came here on Father's Day with some friends and family. The wait for our table wasn't too bad. The place looks nice and clean. When we were seated, the place was slowing down, and we were expecting to not wait too long for food. The food was good, but it took forever to get to us. Got our drinks in a timely manner, but the food... it took over an hour. Our waitress was great! The problem was from the kitchen area. There were multiple tables that left since their meal took sooo long to get to them. We roughed it out since the waitress was tentative and gave us some complementary sides for the little ones to start eating. Very thoughtful of her. By the time the food came out, there were a couple of delicious foods, but the rest was good but I can't remember the taste. Not sure if I'd go back anytime soon, but maybe we'll give them another chance if we are invited to eat and chill with some friends. This place is worth trying. As this place does get busy, other people may have a better experience. read more

Came here on a weekday for dinner and there was no wait so I got seated right away. The food did take a while to come out so the server gave us complimentary nachos for waiting which was nice. The brisket was tender and soft. The mashed potatoes were pretty tasty. I got the madison sandwich, it was pretty big but the meat was kind of dry, wish there was more sauce to go with it. The mac and cheese was good too and had flavor. Overall, its a pretty good bbq place if you're craving some bbq. It is located outside of the mall. Parking can be an issue on the weekends but weekdays should be fine. read more

Shout out to our server Mike/Michael for the excellent service we received on 01/25. We went out for my husband's bday with my father. Mike was just a fantastic server. He is a great conversationalist and he really took care of us. He even brought a drink with Ohio State written on it (my husband is a HUGE Ohio State football fan and is from Columbus OH). My husband got an ice cream cup with a candle too. It was such a nice touch. Our server made it a meal to remember. I've never had a server add so much joy to a dining experience. He was really great. We ordered the loaded fries and all the smoke platter. The all the smoke Platter was huge and better than the prior all the smoke platter. It has super meaty beef ribs, a huge soft falling off the bone smoked short rib, perfectly tender brisket, half a smoked chicken that was juicy and just delightful, and perfectly seasoned tri tip. The food was fantastic. The excellent service just took it over the top and made it a super memorable experience for my husband and my father who had quite a few beers hours earlier. read more

My boyfriend and I came her last Saturday night around 8ish pm after watching a movie upstairs at AMC. It surprisingly was not busy considering it is during holiday hours while the mall had a lot of foot traffic. Upon arrival, it did take a while to be greeted. There wasn't a host at the front desk. Maybe 3-5 mins of waiting someone finally came and got us seated. Our waiter was nice but he took forever to come and take our order. Another server ended up taking our drink order after waiting for so long. We ordered: THE SMOKE MEATS - Texas Style Smoked Brisket Half Pound - Smoked & Grilled BBQ Tri Tip SCRATCH SIDES - Garlic & Harb Mash Potatoes - Red Skin Potato Salad Overall, the food was very good. The portion was just right. Very flavorful. Really loved the fat on the brisket. So mouth watering. We didn't end up finishing our food, so we took it to go. I'll give service a 5 star if I could. Unfortunately, I had been so excited to try this place but a lot of items were not available. Which is hard to be able to provide a proper review. Just a note for the business maybe post a limited menu until the change to the menu. The food thing is what I did get to try was delicious. The brisket was perfectly smoked with a great balance of meat to fat ratio. The appetizer Quesadilla de Birria was the right amount of meat to cheese ratio and the dipping sauce was so good. read more
