There is also a section with varoius items of jewellery and other craft works which are for sale. You can also grab a drink and a snack and sit outside on the several table and chairs put out during the nicer weather just outside the gallery, in the park. So when I spotted the North Devon Hospice, I had to go in and look around. The local story, for me, was the huge interest in books and of videos. For example, I picked up the video 'A Beautiful Mind' for about £3, and several childrens' books in the 50p-£1 price range. Like many charity shops, the fabric of the building was shockingly dilapidated, which suggests that the building had perhaps been gifted to North Devon Hospice, and they do not have the resources to maintain it. I guess that is the way with many charities, who see the choice between giving the money way and spending it on their own infrastructure as a moral one, with the charitable recipients taking priority. Either that, or the average North Devon Hospice volunteer is not adept at shinning up a ladder and applying a coat of paint to the woodwork. But I digress if you are in this part of Devon, and you want to buy a book or video, for everyone's sake don't buy new until you have at least tried second-hand.

It really was eye opening with some fantastic and interesting local history. Contained within the grand building right by the river and long bridge are various artifacts from different periods in north Devon's history. With free entry, very friendly and knowledgeable staff, and a welcoming feel, this is a great museum for locals and holiday makers alike!

When you go in, it is all a bit busy, lots of pink sparkly things hanging for you to buy, and all the jewellery hanging on the wall as you awlk in is far too tempting not to buy something! There are a huge range of gifts in this store, including a lot of Betty Boop, Playboy, and TY ranges that are always the most popular. I also found a lot of bargains on many cuddly toy brands in this store that were quite shocking! a large teddy that was a pig (pink of course!) and was reduced from £17 to £4.50! It is a very girly store it has to be said, but even my partner loves looking round! The staff are really great aswell, not intimidating at all and willing to help even when busy, and it does get terribly busy!

We found the Wildlife Centre a great distraction for the kids after a shopping trip to Braunton. I…read morewould certainly recommend a short visit. It is easy to find, next to the main car park. The Braunton Burrows display, with the accompanying laminated cards, gave us plenty of plants to search out on our day trips to the more remote Burrows: a highlight of the holiday. Among the displays we also found a few remote beaches to visit, so if you are short of things to do on a longer stay then the Wildlife Centre will soon sort you out. The staff were very friendly, and we left not only better educated but also with a couple of balloons.
