    japanese curry savory pain suisse
    Cady D.

Stopped by here for breakfast and coffee. They had a bunch of unique pastry options. I chose the chocolate croissant and it was good. The savory pain suisse was also really delicious. I think it was the Japanese curry one if I remember correctly. It seems like they change up their menu items frequently. The banana travel cake was probably my favorite. The employees were friendly as well!

Craftsman and Wolves is a modern patisserie located in the heart of San Francisco's Mission District. They serve a selection of delicious-looking sweet treats but are perhaps best known for their Rebel Within--a soft, savory pastry that resembles a muffin but is made up of pork and cheese, with a soft-cooked egg in the middle. Although I do not usually eat breakfast, the spacious interior and always-friendly staff make it a great place to grab a quick bite in the morning and get some work done.

Stopped by here a few years ago and thought it was a decent spot, will love to come back, they have some great looking pastries and it's inviting spot. Will definitely be back

Sometimes hard to sit because it's so popular and packed- but that means it's that good! I love the unique spin to the pastries, some savory even! My two personal favorite items are the oatmeal cookie and the breakfast bowl! Both make me feel healthy but I'm also indulging in my sweet tooth a bit. :) they have homemade dog treats sometimes too so my dog even loves going with me. No wifi but ambiance is ok for working if it's not packed.

So chic!!! Loved their assortment of desserts, cute benches and layout of the cafe. We got a bunch of little items to share, coffee and tea. Although seating isn't the most spacious we found a spot to enjoy our treats. Walk to the counter to order and pick up. I will say the little "stone" cake we got was full of complex flavors and appealing to the eye. It was so pretty I almost didn't want to bite into it. I will note that it is pricey but it's obvious there's a lot of effort put into each dessert. Cute spot to walk into, fun neighborhood surprise.

Gorgeous "Pill Box" and other shiny orbs. Pictures don't do it justice. Much shinier in person!

Everything I have tried here has been excellent!: - Mortadella Havarti Croissant Sandwich: This really hits the spot. - Apple Hibiscus Kouign Amman: You can't go wrong with a kouign amman. - Triple Chocolate Croissant: I will never have a plain chocolate croissant again knowing that this exists. - Rebel Within: I don't know how they get a perfectly soft-boiled egg inside of this savory muffin. It is heavy, so this will fill you up for breakfast or lunch. It's good, but I prefer their other pastries. - Pill-shaped mousse cake: I tried this a few years ago but forgot to mention it in my last review. They no longer sell it, but have similar desserts in different shapes. It was absolutely gorgeous and tasty, but I prefer my desserts to be on the heavier side. Every time I have come, there has been a good amount of people in the morning without being crowded. Ample seating at the small tables and communal table. Complimentary cold water and cups in the front. Quick and friendly service. Don't miss out on this place! I keep accidentally walking past it because it has a marrow store front. So if you're like me, know that it is located next door to Dandelion Chocolate.

The concept of having a whole egg inside a muffin is crazy, especially because the egg is still oozy and runny! Perfect if you're craving something savory and like eggs. The only disadvantage is that its on the expensive side ($9.50) for one! Something worth trying at least once though. There's a wide assortment of other pastry items include muffins, cookies, kouign amann, croissants and mini (personal) cakes.

Came by 5 minutes before they were closing at 4pm and purchased two small cakes from their display case. The cakes are beautiful and delicious, although for $16 each, I would say they are definitely on the expensive side. It was a nice little splurge once in awhile.

    Croissant Pudding

Since I knew I was going to have back to back meetings today I decided to pick up a few treats to keep me motivated. On the menu today was Rebel Within, croissant pudding and Egan's Addiction. Pro Tip - Order for pick up! I placed the order using DD and was literally in and out. So if you feel that sometimes it's just too people-y outside order pick up. First was the Rebel Within - I've gotten this before eating in and I remembered it being so much better. Eating in - the savory muffin is warm and the soft boiled egg inside oozes. It's definitely a nom nom. But trying it at home doesn't have the same effect. Maybe have warm up instructions at home? So that was pretty lackluster. Definitely better warm than semi cold - eh On to the Croissant Pudding - warm or cold this one hits! Something about that caramel that has you craving more. Probably the best caramel I've ever had, might be the pinch of salt in there? Not sure, but I do know one thing for sure -- that's not for sharing, that's all for me lol. Last in the menu was Egan's Addiction - not sure who Egan is, but I see why they were addicted - I too love blackberries (ommm nom nom nom nom). Not too sweet and the perfect bite every time. After eating the goodness there was this crust on the bottom I didn't even notice - lucky me another treat to eat! Nom nom nom. If I had to do it all over again I'd probably skip the rebel and stick to the sweet stuff. Nonetheless, satisfied my treat craving! Strong 3.5 -- Until next time!

This is the place for fancy beautiful desserts and pastries. Everything is top of the line and fresh. I come here every time I'm in the Mission. I love their Rebel Within which is a savory muffin with egg inside. They also sell these at the Epicurean Trader and probably other places around the city.

Chai Latte (left) & Croissant Sando with smoked ham, Swiss cheese, and honey mustard aioli
    Sherry G.

I was looking for a cafe for lunch and decided to try this place because I liked that they use ceramic plates and cups when you dine in. I ordered the following: Croissant Sando with smoked ham, Swiss cheese, and honey mustard aioli - The best part about this is the croissant and the aioli. The croissant had the perfect amount of flakiness and held its shape throughout the meal. The aioli, which tasted like a creamy honey mustard, packs a punch without being overwhelming. Chai Latte - This was delicious because I could really taste the spices. Generally, the most disappointing chai lattes I have had tend to be bland. I liked this drink in spite of the fact that I requested oat milk, which usually makes drinks less tasty. I believe they said they use Califia oat milk, so it's possible that that's one of the better oat milk brands. I heard they let you bring your own clean cup (BYOC), which I'll keep in mind if I ever want my drink to-go. Overall, the food tasted great here, and I appreciate that the cashier was patient enough to explain the difference between tea au lait and a chai latte to me. Their reusable foodware situation is pretty good (see Eco Notes below), though I wish they provided reusable utensils to reduce waste. ECO NOTES (Dine-In) Dine-In Dishware: Reusable plates and cups Napkins: Single-use disposable paper napkin Utensils: Bioplastic fork and knife (wrapped in the aforementioned napkin). I was able to avoid this by telling them I didn't need it as they were handing it to me (and before it landed in my hand).

Simply the best. Bold for me to say, but at present, Craftsman and Wolves is probably my favorite bakery cafe in the city. Everything is really just incredible. I haven't even tried their serious works-of-art from "the case" yet; the cafe food and pastries alone hold their own. I've visited twice in the span of a couple months, which is quite frequent for me who tends to not repeat places. Both times my friend and I got a spread, so let me break everything down! Rachel From The Block ($15.50): Gorgeous and just scrumptious pastrami sandwich! From the homey bread, to the generous serving of pastrami (it also wasn't too generous, for the sake of our jaws and arteries), to the delicious sauce. Yes. If this piques your interest, get it. Also, I felt the price is really not bad for SF! The Uppercrust ($16.50): generous and delicious sandwich with such fun and complementary flavors! My friend really enjoys this one. Frittata Sandwich ($13.50): beautiful and lovely breakfast sandwich! No egg icks here! Just stunningly fluffy milk bread with a crisp, swiss cheese that works very well with the sweetness of the bread, and whole egg frittata. To make it a bit heartier, I would probably add avocado and/or bacon in the future, but it is great as is! The Rebel Within ($9.50): I feel you cannot come here and not try this work of sorcery. HOOWWWWWW do they get a WHOLE EGG in the MUFFIN?!?!!? The mystery alone makes this worth trying, but it's also just really delicious and comforting. I'm sure some advanced technique is required to make this, but at the end of the day, it tastes like something you'd enjoy at tea time in a countryside cottage, and I love that dichotomy :) Lion Head Stack ($8.95): soooo yummy. Ok, y'all, hear me out. I feel like the croissant pastry here is on par with, if not better than, Arsicault. It has to be said! Just so flaky, and buttery, but also moist?!! They are giving the people what they want! Also, the pork meatball filling on this one: soooo goood. So savory, and just delicious. Exquisite. Passion Alfajores Kouign Amann ($6?): lovely pastry and so cute! I will say, I do think this one could have used more filling. But, as said above, the pastry is bomb, so not complaining about getting to enjoy more of that. Banana Travel Cake ($4.75): Lovely!!! If you like banana-based baked goods, get this! The form factor sparks joy. It's dense and light at the same time -- an enigma. And the flavor is so cleanly ~banana~. It's really good. CRX Pudding ($6.75): probably my least favorite out of everything I've had, but still good! The texture is uniformly dense, and I would love some other textures in there for a bit more interest. Like a crisp on the outside, more distinct red bean paste, or parts that are less dense. Love the concept though! Matcha Snickerdoodle ($4): another one that isn't my favorite, but still good. Wasn't getting a ton of matcha, more just a nice sweetness and this cooling effect that I guess was coming from the candied lemon peel (loved the candied lemon peel by the way). It's also more cake-like than cookie like. Matcha Tonic ($7): super interesting and beautiful drink! It reminds me of a beverage you'd get in a cool cafe in Seoul. Pickled Veggies: they add this to the side of everything savory for free. Fun! Also, pickled things help with digestion, so love that too! I'm excited to try more from Craftsman and Wolves. Everything has been great so far, and everything else looks great. One day, I'll try the stuff from "the case". Love the eclectic space too. Well worth your time!

    Raspberry matcha latte
    Tiffany H.

My friend saw this place on IG so we decided to try it. Stopped in for some snacks and lunch prior to hiking. Got a variety of pastries, sandwiches and drinks. The strawberry kouign amann was filled with a strawberry puree which was delicious! The rebel within had a soft boiled egg in the middle and was perfect for breakfast! Got the pastrami sandwich with the sauce and cole slaw on the side so the bread wouldn't get soggy since we were eating it later and it had great flavor! The crossaint and pastries were all very flaky and great! The raspberry matcha was their seasonal special. The raspberry was super tart and I felt overpowered the matcha. Overall food and service was great! Prices are kinda expensive but I would return

Why close so early and be out of stock so fast if ppl clearly still want croissants at 2 pm on a Saturday? Also, they forgot two croissants in our bag, and we turned around 30 seconds later and told them they're missing. They needed to "verify" our order, which made me feel like I'm a thief. I've always wanted to try this place since I see a line every time I walked by. There's a lot of foot and car traffic. It's definitely a busy area so expect to park in one of the nearby residential areas or be extremely and walk/bike/bus here! Upon stepping into the tiny shop, I was enveloped in the sweet smell of chocolate chip cookies. It was tempting to put that in my bag, but I stuck with my game plan. They do self serve for all the baked goods and drinks except the pizza and focaccia. You tell the cashier what you grabbed. There's self serve complimentary water on the side too. Got a pecan swirl, one of each square focaccia flavors, and a half pizza (hot). The pizza flavor of the day was triple mushroom with sesame ginger garlic vinaigrette and mozzarella. It was 10/10 delicious!! Do note that they don't heat up the focaccia. Personally, after tasting everything, I'd say the pizza is more worth it than the focaccia "pizzas". The pecan roll was quite addicting too. You can also skip the line if you want to order online on their website and schedule a pick up time, but my gift card didn't work so I just waited in line.
