It is pretty abstract. It is some colorful circles on a bright blue background. The perimeter of one of the circles looks like piano keys. There is a tree that runs up the center of the mural. It is a simple design, but it had to be that way because it was a community paint by the number project. That had members of the community, even those without artistic ability, to do the painting. I am a fan of community art. I guess it is the sappy side of me. The mural is located on the side of a photography studio, overlooking a small parking lot belonging to De Baun's Service, Inc. So, parking and getting out to get a closer look at this mural is simple and easy, if that is what you want to do. As with most all murals that I have reviewed, this is probably not a very long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. You may want to consider planning out additional stops or making this part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip.

This is a piece that I have passed numerous times and not even noticed. It is on the side of the business and a small pieces continues to wrap around the front corner. The mural grabs your attention and really grabs you. She has an excellent use of colors. I like the shadows the artist created in the painting. A very nice touch and the illusion of the wall breaking open to reveal a honeycomb, with some bees coming from it was awesome. I am a sucker for a piece with a message, as this one has. She brings color and detail to her work. In 2019, she was selected to paint one of the Jiffy Lube locations with a mural that through a whimsical image calls attention to the importance of the honey bee and its place in keeping our world functioning. While painting the mural, she repeatedly had bees land without stinging. Then one day, she found a dead bee at the base of the mural which focused her even more keenly on how short their lives are and how much good they do. The mural is part of an ongoing program that is sponsored by Jiffy Lube with assistance from the Arts Council of Indianapolis to bring art to unexpected places to inspire visitors and employees to lead full, well rounded lives. This mural, which wraps from the front of the station, features honeycomb, several bees, a whimsical flying baby dressed as a bee and finally, a sunflower with the Earth spinning in the center of the petals. The honeycomb appears to be breaking out of the wall while the bees and other images appear to be casting shadows from in front of the wall. It is a delightful piece that adds beauty and understanding to the lives of those who see it. Review #2947

You are able to pull up a map of the 20 plus sculptures online and make a day of visiting each piece. It is one of few pieces of the collection that are located inside. It is located on the second floor of Esch Hall on the front side of the building. You will be looking right at it when you get off the elevator. It is an active school building, but I was still able to visit it during normal hours without any problems or issues. I would recommend wearing a mask though, because who knows what the regulation will be at the time of your visit. It is positioned between two chairs (right up against one of them), that may be occupied by students studying or hanging out. It is another piece by Jennifer Meyer, who also has the Stand of Poppies sculpture located outside the building. Just like Poppies and keeping with her style, this is a composition of everyday objects that she found, altered and painted. The collection and assemblage of these repurposed objects is her attempt "to clean up the planet." This sculpture was inspired by Meyer's ecological and environmental concerns. And uses a steel rebar and an old boat propeller to make a beautiful red flower. It stands about six feet tall and the bright red just draws you in. I sure it does not hurt that the sculpture is located indoors and does not have to contend with the elements. Being that the sculpture is located on the UIndy campus there is a lot of parking available, however, most of it requires a parking permit. I just parked in an open spot, got out and took a closer look. I was not in the spot long. So, you can live on the wild side and do the same or you can find one of the guest spots that they have around campus to park. As with most sculptures that I have visited and reviewed, this is probably not a very long stop. I was there less than 5 minutes. So, you may want to consider planning out additional stops at many of the other wonderful pieces of public art on campus, or making this stop part of a larger itinerary to maximize your time and trip. The mural on the front side depicts some classic books stacked against each other that include: Frankenstein, The Strange Case of Jekyll and Hyde, Shakespeare and Dracula. You will find a black and white portrait of William Shakespeare in the upper right corner of the mural, just above two of the building's windows. The detail on the books is amazing. I like the way that the building's window is incorporated into the Batman book. It also blends well with the Books & Brews sign. The mural continues on the right side of the building with a nice and detailed bicycle and white silhouette portrait of Jane Austen, against a green background. Austen was a writer who wrote 6 major novels, including Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility. Diekhoff is a very talented muralist and specializes in anything Disney or fantasy. She is an up in coming artist and I really enjoy her work. I am surprised that I was the first to review this piece. The artistry is very good, the images are very detailed and the colors just pop and demand your attention. There is a decent sized parking lot in front of and on the side of the business that the mural is located. So, parking to get out and get a closer look would not be a problem. It is an active school building, but I was still able to visit it during normal hours without any problems or issues. I would recommend wearing a mask though, because who knows what the regulation will be at the time of your visit. This small abstract sculpture is the work of Macy Dorf. It is made of ceramic stoneware. I do not know much about the piece's background or Dorf's inspiration, but to me the sculpture looks like some fire wood standing up on its side, but with handles and odd spouts on top. It is abstract AF. I do not know the meaning behind the sculpture's title or even if there is one. The sculpture is placed on 1 foot tall pedestal with an informational placard with its title and artist on it. The three-piece sculpture differs in height, coming in between 2 and 3 feet. This piece has the luxury of being inside, which is a plus, because it does not have to battle the elements. This is not my favorite piece. I would probably enjoy it better if I had some context or background. It is not my taste, but that is just me. The mural is in Nora's trademark 3D style and depicts an angel looking down at the word "dream" set against a colorful background. I really like her pieces that are all over the city. I missed the one that was at the airport for the NCAA football championship. The mural is meant to be a reminder to everyone to continue to just dream. It has an even deeper meaning too. When talking about the mural, Nora stated that the "image is something one may see in a DREAM state.. This is an image of going from one reality (on the right) to creating another reality (on the left)." You can view the mural with 3D glasses to bring it to left. I did not have any 3D glasses on me during my visit, but I think that is an awesome and unique feature that is seen in many of Nora's pieces. Parking here to get a closer look is pretty simple. You can pull into the Jiffy Lube's parking lot, get out and look as long as your heart desires. I was lucky the day that I visited. There were no vehicles parked in front of and blocking the mural. That was very rare, as I had passed it on many occasions and there was always vehicles parked in front of it. The wood does not look like it is not the most durable material to make an outdoor sculpture. This piece is starting to show signs of wear and erosion. Gresko's Wave Form #1 is a similar piece that is located in coastal town in North Carolina and is much larger and made of bigger wooden planks. The sculpture depicts the wood creating what appears to be a wave by starting at one point and continuously fanning out in a spiral, until it reaches another point. The effect starts and ends on a cement pad and is mounted to the pad by a steel bracket. I really like the kinetic effect created by the sculpture. It had me moving all around it trying to see what was the best vantage point. Even though it is a bit smaller, I think this is one of Gresko's better Wave Form pieces. The twisting of the fence like structure is symbolic of the powerful force that wind creates in such conditions. The piece has two pads each with a pole rising from it. On one end, the dock wood begins vertically attached to the pole. As the connected "fence" pieces cover the space towards the other pole, they begin angling counter clockwise so that by the time they reach the second pole, the bottom of the fence has inverted to become the top. From the front or back, the twisting creates reciprocating fan shapes. When viewed from the sides, the image looks like a filled in circle. Review #1703
