Not exactly something a vegetarian might be impressed with but then again when it comes to ethics it's not exactly of the wasteful mass produced supermarket ilk, is it? As well as a range of delicious meats they also sell fresh local milk and a range of delicious sandwiches for your lunch. First off, the lovely people that run the shop always greet you with a smile, which as we all know is very important. And they serve everybody quickly and efficiently no matter how chaotic it gets. But you can ring ahead to have food ready for you when you get there (very handy for those dirty Fat Friday sandwiches!) and I'm pretty sure they do food for offices and functions etc (but don't quote me on that!). Most importantly though, the sandwiches are bloody lovely! The breakfast butties are cracking - I go for a sausage, bacon and black pudding butty with ketchup. The meat in that is great, but the black pudding is just perfect! And the lunch sandwiches are just as good. There's loads of fillings, hot and cold, and there's plenty of salad options that you get at no extra cost. My personal fave is the chinese chicken, which is nice and creamy! But they also do things like salad boxes, paninis, wraps and a cracking selection of cakey things like flapjacks and chocolate brownies. As you can probably gather, I love this place! The people are lovely and the food is amazing and reasonably priced. Get on it!! Oh and check out the picture of the Festive Feast sandwich! Very friendly staff greeted us as we entered and the dining room was busy which was a good sign given that it is under new ownership for just a year or so now. We ate in the newer section of the pub which had sky lights and was very light with a great view over the valley. The menu seemed quite simple and to focus on local type dishes and at first glance, I thought the menu looked a little pricey for lunches and so decided on a sandwich (I think it was £6) while many of the dishes were up in the £8-10 range). When the sandwiches came, they came with a small salad of very fresh greens which was the first surprise. Then the second surprise came in the form of a pickle plate containing a selection of beetroot, pickled onions (small (so not too strong in flavour), but numerous), pickled cabbage and a pickle/chutney all of which we were told were made on site. Honestly, I'd read it on the menu and not really given it any thought, but the presentation of the pickle plate was great and their flavours were sublime. For me the pickle tray was the star of the meal and tied the local/home-style together perfectly. The sandwiches were very tasty and combined with the salad and pickles offered fantastic value for money. The sandwich (coronation chicken), wasn't too overly spiced and the bread was thick cut and very tasty. Others in my party were equally impressed. My only regret, given the flavour and quality of the pickled onions and pickle/chutney, I should have got the cheese sandwich as I bet combined, the three elements would be amazing! At this point I'm looking forward to going back and will be trying some of the more expensive dishes on the strength of my experience here. If all their dishes are made with the same quality of ingredients and given the same attention, then I'm sure it won't be long before this becomes a very well known local spot.

You can also get a sandwich on a baguette. The coronation chicken is pretty much curried chicken salad. It has raisins in it and lots of curry powder. Very good. The following day I got the smoked salmon and cream cheese and asked that they add cucumber. Cost £2.30. Holy ridiculous. $2.80 when converting. Even shitty cheap sandwich Subway is more expensive than that and it's shitty. Not sure how their prices are so low, but the smoked salmon was amazing and I felt like I spent pretty much nothing on lunch. Also get a flapjack. It's a brown sugar oat cake that is semi- healthy (oats) and super amazing (caramel).
