I tried purchasing a pair of Vivian Onyx wall sconces from Crate and Barrel. The first was perfect. The other was damaged (chips, cracks, ends broken off). After 4 attempts at sending me a replacement that was not damaged, they gave up and told me that my only option was to return everything for a refund. No return label, no shipping, no integrity, no caring about customers. At no point did they even try to look in the box to see whether there was damage before sending it. I will never buy anything from this company, any affiliates, or any company sharing members of their board of directors ever again. Whatever reputation they had in the past, it is gone down the drain. If the board members ever read this, this is a failure of your risk management responsibilities. read more

I love the sofa that I bought and the salesperson was knowledgeable and pleasant. The bad review is for the Design Desk. I was contacted via Zoom (my choice) and all seemed well. The designer never got back to me and when I e-mailed him, his excuse was that he had lost my original e-mail and photos. He apologized and asked to come to my condo to physically take the measurements and make subsequent recommendations. Again, I was ghosted! I left a message with the manager of the department and will see what transpires. I am not hopeful and would definitely NOT recommend even with it being a free service. 5-star review for their Lounge Sofa from Crate & Barrel!! Full disclaimer: This is more of a sectional product quality and in-store customer service review and has nothing to do with the purchase process, as we at the end didn't buy direct from the store. We were there only at the last 15 minutes before it closed and from sitting on this sectional it instantly became one of my favs. I've been furniture store hopping across the GTA each weekend. This one is the giant deep casual lounge sofa of my dreams. It has deepest seating with two options (41" or 46", we love the latter). As soon as I sat back, my legs propped up. Crate & Barrel specializes in larger sectionals. This one is just the perfect amount of firmness, classic shape, and solidly built. I wanted something that will last the test of time and this is it. Part of my research of looking for a couch is to see how it wears over time in the used market and this couch looks like it's in great condition even used (no sagging). It's one of the longest two-piece sectionals we've seen, coming in at 124 inches, which was pushing it in terms of space. Also every interior designer seems to rave about this couch and it's quality. It's built in the USA and has really heavy high resiliency cushions that are not likely to sag. The only issue I have is with the taft fabric which I have now... its more of a textured weave material and when I brush my earring against it, it pulls the fabric a bit. Even though it's considered a performance fabric, I recommend something else. They have over 100 fabric options to choose from, Douglas being the most premium and feels really good. The sales associate is also super friendly and helpful even though our interaction was very limited given we came towards the end to try the couches. I feel like she was on commission but there was no pressure to purchase at all and she was helpful. Tip: If you just recently moved and submit a change in address to the postal office and send over proof to Crate & Barrel you can get 15% or 20% on all purchases, which is huge when it comes to a big purchase. Definitely a pricey investment but I intend to use the couch every day and even sleep on sometimes so it's worth the investment for me. read more

I needed to buy a new sofa for my den. I went to many furniture stores in Toronto to check out the quality, the comfort, the style and colour and material choices. I sat in many, many sofas. After much sofa sitting I selected the Axis sofa at Crate and Barrel at Yorkdale. I returned a few times to make sure this was the sofa i would buy. I had a selection of many colours. It was extremely comfortable and I ordered it. There was a 6-8 week time for delivery which had to be fine. I paid for in house delivery and the sofa was expensive. Once delivered I was excited. Until I sat on the sofa. The only problem was and still is the sofa is not comfortable to sit on. Certainly not the comfort of the sofa at the store. I cannot sit on the new sofa for longer than an hour give or take. My back starts to hurt and I am in pain. The cushions are too hard. I have tried switching the cuhions, sitting everywhere on the sofa. I went back to the store and asked the manager if there was a solution to this problem. He told me there wasn't. I didn't ask for a new sofa. I asked to have the filling changed to something more comfortable for me. He said there was nothing he could/would do. I've been trying all morning to get to speak to a customer service representative. None were available. No one to help me. I was at one point put on hold for 26 minutes. The staff I was talking to work at home and not anywhere near the proper personnel. They have to call them. I explained my frustration to 3 different people. One actually cared, I have spent thousands of dollars on a sofa that I cannot sit on. Crate and Barrel does not stand behind their product nor do they offer any solutions. We have been customers of crate and barrel for years, purchasing the majority of our bigger ticket items (sofa, sectional, bed, desk, etc.) from the Yorkdale location (and in Seattle in the US). We have typically had good experiences and enjoy both the look and function of most items we have purchased. Most recently we purchased a sofa bed and some dining chairs. We love what we got, though we haven't fully used the sofa bed as a bed yet. The reason I'm writing this review is that our experience this time wasn't quite the same as in the past. We were not super thrilled with the sales rep. When we ran into some issues regarding delivery, we didn't even want to turn to her for help. Thankfully a standout in customer service - Nancy - did wonders, and our delivery came on time during the requested window. We do appreciate her efforts. We would be happy to shop with crate and barrel again in the future. read more

Purchased multiple OUTDOOR and "frost resistant" planters - within a very short time, the paint all started chipping off of the planters. ALL of them. Crate & Barrel won't do anything about it because it's past their 30 days and said that it was somehow my fault for having stored them in the garage. This is thousands of dollars. Read other reviews - lots of people with the same problem. It's criminal. Shop elsewhere. Restoration Hardware is more expensive, but their stuff is amazing and THEIR customer service is exceptional. I brought them into replace, hoping to do everything in store, but was told they would need to order it and it would arrive 5 days from then. over a month and a half later and constant pestering I got a 30 dollar store credit, which only helps them as I don't want their store credit and got told they are shipping the items now. who knows when or if they will arrive. these guys suck. read more

I ended up ordering two sleeper sofas in May (for Christmas guests), and was told 3-5 months delivery. In the meantime, if you phone to find out the status of your furniture - they have no idea. This is a furniture company - how can they not know the status of your furniture?? I finally get the call that the furniture is ready for delivery - to their warehouse in the US (from where? China?). From there it's another $700 per couch for delivery, plus another month to get to my city in Canada, plus another 2 weeks beyond that to get to my house. Will not get before Christmas. And no matter how bad the service, you can't cancel. If you can't walk out the door with it - don't buy it. read more

I purchased a couch in 2016. I noticed a few of the cushions of small areas where the seam is ripping. They provided absolutely no warranty resolution for this issue, instead they blamed me for "moving residents" and/or "vacuuming". Their solution was to either purchase an entirely new couch (of course through them) or purchase new cushions IF they still made the same couch. This is absolutely appalling considering how much you spend on products through this company. Their warranty policy is 30 days after purchase of product which is comical! I do not recommend purchasing anything through this company and will not be purchasing anything else through them. The customer service is ridiculous and extremely disappointing. Anything damaged or "wear and tear" will be your fault and they will not provide any way to fix the product unless you SPEND MORE MONEY WITH THEM read more

No rules stating that one consumer may not stay in the store for any certain length of time, whereas referring to the costumer as a potential threat and claiming false accusations of "stalking" while none of the actions being done could meet the proper definition of "stalking ". Discrimination against bored people . Reason as stated in the previous paragraph. Selling all the beds with the price over one thousand, doesn't even provide the mattress. All in all, the experience in this store was terrible but valuable at the same time. If you were to look for something meaninglessly expensive you would not be disappointed. Considering nowadays the desire of useless goods is raising among young people, I give the store a five star rating as a compliment for its fantastic set-up of the target market. read more

I was quite disappointed with Crate and Barrel (Canada). Not so much the store, but the registry. I came here to create a wedding registry and this is what I found out: 1. Both in and out of town guests have to call in and ask what's on your registry. They cannot view it online so they need to sit on the phone and have someone list ALL the things you have on there. 2. Out of town guests can't order anything online and have it shipped to you. They have to call in and place the order. 3. Any guests that want to have gifts shipped to you must do so at their own expense. 4. The selection of kitchenware is pretty sad. Only 2 food processors and 1 stand mixer to choose from. Really? Anyone thinking about creating a wedding registry here, beware. Despite the pretty sorry registry service, the items they carry in the store are nice. We walked out with an egg timer. read more

When Crate and Barrel arrived at my favourite mall Yorkdale, I was thrilled it opened up in Canada. My excitement encompassed three things I think about as I enter this store each and every time... LOW PRICES! SELECTION! STYLE! This store is a true ruler when it comes to home decor. It has furniture for your working kitchen and cozy bedroom, outdoor pieces for your backyard, and sections packed with items such as dishes and accessories like colourful throw pillows. What I love about this store as well is that it is trendy but reasonable. In this sense, it keeps you from getting sad as you walk around other furniture stores where you can't seem to afford a thing. Also, the merchandise quantity is HUGE! When my mom and I went to pick out new kitchen glasses, there were at least 12 different styles to pick from. As well, this is key for bridal registry. My friends are getting married and they were able to sign up for such cute gifts from here. One of them - a neat stainless steel style spice rack - is something I snagged for them! read more

Well it appears Crate and Barrel has finally come to Canada. The employees were quite helpful. A little too helpful for my tastes but pleasant and not intrusive while browsing. It's the kind of "too helpful" in the sense that I don't really need to know if the stuffing in the couch I'm about to buy is 100% whole wheat environmentally friendly soy based product grown from virgin plants that always face south... blah blah blah.. I purchased their entry-level micro-suade Sofa and after a few weeks with it I'm quite happy for the price. The selection is nice and things generally feel of better quality than other options Ikea, Bombay, etc. It's a little more pricy here but the merchandise is better. I'd estimate it's on par with Pottery Barn. I like it because you're less likely to run into the furniture you've just purchased at all of your friends places, it's a little more exclusive and not so massively consumed. One concern would be that I'd be a little reluctant to get into their really high-end couches and dining sets because you start getting into Ethan Allen prices. read more

Over the years we have purchased furniture here for our house. The staff are friendly and if you have design questions, they will sit with you to go over your needs. They will tell you about each pieces' designer and origins of where it's made/built (if you ever wonder if it's from N. Carolina or China). We had an odd experience in following through with the design suggestions, but once this got raised to other C&B staff they acted fast to rectify and make up for the service glitches. We truly love our furniture and the quality of our pieces (shelf, coffee table, Colette bed and night stands). The prices are not the lowest, but you get quality and excellent staff service. One other thing to watch out for is if you have delivery and assembly at your home, keep an eye on the people who assemble it (the delivery ppl may be outsourced?). The person who assembled our bed took shortcuts, misaligned pieces, and left some 'extra' parts saying not all of it needed to be used. My husband eventually re-did it using all the components. We raised it again to the C&B staff and they apologized and acted to rectify it for us. Overall, a good experience with the furniture and staff. read more

I've been to Crate and Barrel twice now, and have been happy both times. Most recently I went to have a look at a nightstand which was $399 online. In store the tag said it was $299, so I decided to order it. When the employee put it into the computer, it came up as $399. Without me even asking, he explained the tag was out of date, but they'd be happy to give it to me for the lower price, as it was their error for leaving the old tag on. Nice! Many stores wouldn't honor the displayed price in that same situation. They've definitely got themselves a repeat customer. The furniture here is nice and moderately priced. Good looking contemporary stuff. Starting with a mix of veneer and solid wood, ranging to fully solid wood, minor assembly (sometimes) required. Lots of kitchen stuff too. Friendly staff. Doesn't have that pretentious unwelcoming vibe some stores do. read more

This is a modern house ware and furniture store that offers upscale items for your condo, house, or cottage. Absolutely fantastic for drinking glasses, including wine and liquor glasses. The glasses are solid, stylish, and nearly unbreakable with everyday usage. They offer gorgeous ready to go framed pictures and wall art, and a nice selection of throw pillows for the couch. As well as great kitchen stuff, especially pots and pans for reasonable prices. We also liked a many of the furniture pieces, couches, the area rugs, and patio furniture. read more

Poor costumer service in furniture department. and no respect for costumer time. They avoid to answer your question or give you wrong and not related information. I purchased a coffee table from them and they told me I will take one hour to rape it up. so I left the store and come back next day, surprisingly the table was still on the floor and after arguing with one of the managers on the store who was really useless took 45 minutes with the help of a very nice salesperson to get out of the store. I love their style but really don't like to come back to this location any more. read more

I recently approached a sales associate in store to ask about a print that had been marked down on the website and whether she could check if the price had been lowered in store as well. This associate rudely dismissed me and advised the price was "as marked". When I approached a second associate for help, the first one followed me around the store and proclaimed "I already gave you an answer" and then laughed at me while I continued a conversation with this second associate all the while muttering under her breath "I already gave you an answer". The second associate was so shocked by the exchange, she proceeded to give me a hug and tell me "I can't believe what I just saw". I was so shocked and embarrassed, I left the store without further action. Now that I have my senses back, I have written a note to the store manager. I have escalated to the director of stores in Ontario. I plan to tell everyone I know, post my experience on every social network site. This is absolutely unacceptable. I will continue to escalate the experience up the food chain until I'm satisfied this will never happen to anyone else. read more

This is a review for both the Yorkdale and Square One locations, as I have experienced the same level of service (which should be expected for a large chain store). I purchased a few large pieces of furniture from C&B after moving into my new home and I could have not been happier with the entire process. The sales people there were very attentive and did all they can to help you and provide excellent service. I bought a marble dining room table and a pair of mid-century styled walnut nightstands on two separate occasions, and the quality of materials and construction were excellent and offered great value considering the design and quality. Delivery service was well worth the cost and could have not been smoother or easier. C&B have their own delivery service and I had Doug delivered my furniture on both purchases and both times he was extremely reliable and he knew exactly what to do in terms of where to park and dealing with my elevator and concierge -- no work on my part at all. He even knocked on my door with my furniture exactly on time (I didn't even have to go downstairs/outside)! Doug and his sidekick unpacked and assembled my furniture quickly and mess-free and were extremely friendly and provided some tips on how to care for my furniture. They were true pros and completed my excellent C&B experience. With both purchases I received nice written letters a couple weeks later from the sales people at the stores whom I bought from as a thank you and follow up, which were a nice touch. read more

Beware: I was ready to buy 2 outdoor planters for $190 each. Luckily, I asked to view them before purchase. The planters were visibly banged up and had dirt and plant matter in the bottom. The manager said they had been "on display" and offered me a ten per cent discount. read more

A bed I ordered was first delivered on June 11 with missing hardware. You'd expect this kind of logistics blunder from much lesser brands, but not with the premium we pay for CB merch. And so began the customer service nightmare. I was passed between so many cs reps I've lost count, and each time having to re-explain what happened and re-express my frustration having just moved into a new place with our newborn without a bed. It's almost as if the note each rep left for another was "customer didn't get some bolts for the bed lol". Initially it also bordered on insulting when all they could offer was a refund on original shipping or 10% discount or 15% discount (they give 15% discount codes to newsletter subscribers almost daily...). A week ago finally arrived at an agreement of a 20% discount and that the replacement bed would be delivered a week earlier than what the previous rep insisted the earliest humanly possible delivery date could be. I had asked for confirmation of the delivery date and I received one. That day has come and passed today with no delivery and no answer when I called the delivery company number. I mean I really don't know what to say anymore... read more

Sorry to disappoint the readers but I possibly had the worse consumer experience and this is for the Crate and Barrel Yorkdale branch. I bought a Hurom Slow Juicer but it was out of stock so they promised me to get it ordered and shipped within 5 to 7 days. Come two weeks and I still don't have my Hurom so I called their store and one of their staff told me that it was not ordered yet but there is a stock in their Square One branch so that one will be delivered to me instead. When I got it, I was so surprise to see the following: 1. The box is wrinkled 2. The internal parts are dirty (fibers attached to a lot of areas, guess those are veggies) 3. Crack parts which I don't know what part of the juicer it is 4. Missing spout cover 5. Smells celery! Well I don't have to guess it but the one they sent me is used! So I ended up calling them and I was told to wait for their call back while they check their store if there is any stocks left. I'm very disappointed. Until now I haven't heard from them yet. I am regretting that I didn't buy the Hurom Slow Juicer from Costco. read more

I don't normally go into this store because their style hasn't immediately gripped me on the occasions I have been in there. However I decided to just check it out and see what they have today. Unfortunately I decided to ask the saleslady about the content of a pillow whether it was cotton or linen. Her answer to me was to avoid answering the question and to reply to my other question about whether this was for the winter season by telling me, "I know you want to know because you want to know whether it is on sale." I don't know when this sort of customer service has become normal. But I don't think I'll be coming back to this store to shop anytime soon. read more

I agree that Crate and Barrel offers a very nice selection of modern furniture. I live in Alberta and am considering ordering 5 pieces...the biggest problem is these 5 items will cost a Canadian $700 more over the US pricing. I contacted Crate and Barrel asking for a discount and was offered nothing. I do appreciate that there are various costs associated with bringing these items into Canada but can it really cost $100 more for a Parson's side table in Canada versus buying the same table in the US? read more
