Brought my Mom here for lunch. The food was terrible and when we complained - the chef/manager came out to yell at us that they had made the food for us so we had to pay for it. Most of the staff were nice but some of them were very undressed for serving food, one had a top on that barely covered her front and her back was completely bare. Completely inappropriate and unhygienic for a food service worker. We were told by a staff member that all the food was brought in pre-made. Complete waste of money, we paid for two of the meals as we had started eating them before realising that it was poisoned with salt. My sister didn't even take her meal from the server as she could see immediately that it wasn't what was on the menu and had items she is unable to eat. That was when the manager came out to yell at her and caused a scene! We had to go to another restaurant to get her something to eat as she hadn't been able to eat anything. Please avoid this restaurant unless you want sub par, pre made food at extortionate prices. read more

One of my favourite places in Cork, and somewhere I try to call into whenever I have a few free minutes when I'm at home. The Crawford was lucky enough to snag an extension and refurbishment during the Celtic Tiger years. It's spent the last few years putting it's new-found sprawl to good use. There's three permanent exhibitions each on the small side (sculptures, a Harry Clarke sampler and a few artifacts from Cork's merchant past). The main exhibition area tends to lean on modern Irish art and has a good pedigree thanks to the gallery's links with the Hugh Lane in Dublin. Oh, and there's a nice tea-room and restaurant in the back, so it's a good way to waste a lunch hour too! read more

Whenever I'm in Cork I'll always call in to see what exhibitions are on display. The building is very big, with great history and character attached to it, perfect for large scale works of art. There ss a cafe there too with a cool 80s neon sign if you're feeling peckish. There is no admission charge but there is donation box if you'd like to give something. Beautiful Gallery, always worth a visit! read more

CRAWFORD ART GALLERY The Crawford Art Gallery is by far the biggest in the city centre and well worth a visit. It has some fine rooms in which current and permanent collections may be seen. If you want a break, then it has a highly recommended cafe. I visited this afternoon to see the current collections: one called Drawing to Forum, art from the Weltkunst Collection, and the other entitled the Cooper Penrose Collection (art and memorabilia of 18th century Cork). The permanent collections include Paintings, Prints and Sculpture. The Paintings include 23 illustrations by Harry Clarke, Sculpture includes works by John Hogan while Prints/Other Media include pieces by Picasso and Miro. Crawford Art Gallery is a small-ish (much smaller than it looks from outside) but pleasant and worthwhile museum in the city centre of Cork. The collection of paintings is modest indeed, but there are always temporary displays on modern art and there's an impressive collection of plaster casts (mostly) of ancient busts and figures. I really appreciate Ireland having fee art galleries and museums. I am glad that people get to enjoy these types of things no matter who they are. It is also nice for tourists such as myself. Just because I am on vacation doesn't mean that I have unlimited money to spend. I have to choose what to spend money on and it is possible that I may not have went here if there was a cost. Since we were walking by and I remembered reading that it was free we decided to check it out. There are a couple of floors with both older and newer items displayed. My favorite was the ground floor room with the sculptures. They also have a nice little cafe where we were able to get some tea, coffee and cakes. This is a nice gallery that you could easily check out in just an hour or two. read more

I came across this place by accident while I was wandering round the shops in Cork, and thought I'd give it a look (if nothing else, it seemed a good place to go to duck out of the rain). Inside, I initially thought it to be a very small gallery, with a nice little exhibition on surrealist dreams. Then I found the stairs up and found myself wandering round several other rooms, in a large building, with various different grouped collections of art works. Worth a look if you are in Cork, especially due to its free admission and central location read more

The photo exhibitions held here are simply fantastic. The gallery has a range of local and international connections so they really get a range of excellent art here ranging from the more traditional works to post-modern stuff. They also have a sculpture area too. The cafe here is also good and feels more of a restaurant than a cafe. Overall, it's a great place to visit. read more

A great place to while away an afternoon when shopping gets a bit too boring - helps that its right in the city centre too. I've loved coming to the Crawford since I was a teenager. It's changed a bit since then, but for the better. The traditional sculpture galleries give the place some heritage, as do the excellent examples of Irish art upstairs. The newer galleries are always worth visiting for cool, interesting, contemporary art displays. And it's all free! The restaurant here is great too, although I don't eat there much as I'm too busy looking at the art. read more

Very beautiful gallery in the heart of Cork. I was here for an event. The Irish Pediatric Society Annual Meeting Dinner. We had a guided tour and lovey dinner in the cafe. Some areas of the gallery were closed for installations, but they are opened now. Our guide was very knowledgeable, answered our questions, and made the tour fun. Our dinner in the cafe consisted of perfectly cooked lamb, potatoes, a salad with goat cheese, walnuts, and cranberries, a dessert selection. The evening ended with an acapella group singing everyone's favorite songs. What a night to remember!!! read more

This gallery has been open for about a hundred years. It is spread over 2 floors. It is very central and most interesting. Many different genres of art are represented here. There is some of the usual modernist pap but for the most part the artwork is old style and shows great talent on behlaf of the artist. The place is an island of tranquility and it well repays a visit. read more
