I am blown away sometimes by how some of these shops stay in business as they are not selling good clothes and what they are selling could be picked up at any St Vin's or Salvo's shop for a fraction of the price. Reuze Vintage in Paddington does not fit into this category but is rather offering quality vintage stock. A relatively new shop, Reuze is more geared towards women and with much lacy garments and formal clothing for both men and women, it is not a shop, which particularly appeals to my sense of style, but none the less their clothes are high in quality and providing a fashion style many people will love.

While some dresses are around the $100 mark (some worth it, others only racking up the dollars because they're old), there's also a great range for $25, which is a steal considering all the love and effort that went into making clothes back in the day. My eye was caught initially by the fantastical window display being painted by an afro wielding staff member. Every aspect of the shop was both quirky and feminine... From the carefully thought out visual merchandising to the smooth Jazz soundtrack. I spent some time in here trying on things and perusing the racks with the attentive help of two beautiful and charismatic sales assistants. Both I will add, impeccably dressed from head to toe. The designs are unique with a nod to bygone eras. The designer has obviously thought about the modern woman with styles and cuts suitable for a myriad of body types. The boutique also has an extensive collection of shoes and accessories to finish of the look. I left with a bundle of frocks in hand, a smile on my face and a rekindled love for Newtown and all it's quirkiness.

Granted, much of this vintage stock is designer and some of it is quite beautiful. Occasionally the staff here are willing to bring the prices down too, although even at Eva's discounted rate many of these dresses are priced far higher than I'm prepared to pay for second hand clothing. They used to have a Leichhardt contingent which sold the nicer of their dresses at far cheaper prices (I never really understood this) but now it seems that the two have merged into the one over priced shop. Come here for a nice glomesh purse - that is, after you've already checked Glebe and Rozelle markets.

Because new stock comes in every week, along with regular sales on already inexpensively priced clothing, Eva's Vintage beckons you back time and time again. Staff are warm and friendly and the shop is both beautifully laid out and spotlessly clean. Thoughtful touches in the spacious dressing room such as heating in winter and cooling in summer make trying on clothes pleasant and fun. Bags, shoes, fabulous clothes, and accessories - this store is a local gem.

There is the odd nod to teen wear with cut-off T-shirts and lacy black things which the buyer had obviously thought "hmm, semi-naked, that's what young people like right?" I must've been standing there looking quite dazzled, because immediately a shop assistant came over and asked if I needed any help. As it so happened, I did, and she obligingly whisked me around the store, throwing various items of clothing over her shoulder for me to try on. She delivered me at the threshold of the changing rooms, before introducing me to her colleague, Tim, who would be my stylist. I'm not used to this level of immaculate service, especially from a high street store. Tim rushed to-and-fro, bringing me a whole load of tops and shorts to try on. He was refreshingly truthful about what looked good and what didn't (much more so than friends usually are) and even suggested other stores where I could find similar clothes. My Sportsgirl shopping experience was fantastic - fun, easy and I was taken very good care of. I'll definitely be going back.
