You can have fun learning to create and also be quite surprised at what you're capable of at The Make Den. I have done their macrame and leather fundamentals class, and was actually kind of drunk for the macrame class (wine was provided for my group due to the occasion) and still created a work of art. The format of their classes are great too, chunking up classes and projects. It flows nicely and you walk away feeling accomplished with lots of goods to show off. Great 2 in 1 date night idea to spin your own pottery + paint your own pottery…read more Booked in advance to do their pottery class. It was with 6 of us to one instructor, which was the owner, Kent. I loved that Kent walked us through each step while demonstrating and doing the pottery with us. It really helped with this step by step instructions to understand and to make our own pieces. The pottery spinning was a lot of fun and I can't wait to do it again. We made 2 pieces each and were able to pick which pieces we wanted fired (could have both or just one). The great thing about this was that you can come back at another date to paint your pottery piece at an additional cost. The only odd experience throughout this entire activity was when we called in trying to see if we needed a reservation to come in the day before Valentine's day (Feb 13) to paint our pottery, and was asked to pay a fee to secure our spot. But then told us it's a walk in basis to paint any pottery (which is free without a fee). So of course we did not pay to secure a spot, since it seemed unnecessary. We just walked in and there were plenty of spots available for our painting. Overall, it was a great experience with the pottery spinning - lots of fun and a great activity to do with a partner.

When we went to pick up our pieces, we found out they had messed them up during the firing process. Disappointing, but mistakes can happen. What really bothered us was the way they handled it. The night before, I received a call saying we could come in for a refund. There was no mention of any conditions or exceptions. But when we got there, we were told they only give refunds for payments made by card--since we paid cash, we could only get store credit. That kind of last-minute surprise feels unfair and unprofessional. If we had been told that detail over the phone, we wouldn't have wasted our time going in expecting a refund. Instead, we were basically forced to accept store credit and now have to go back and spend more money just to make up for their mistake. We won't be returning, and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who values honesty and accountability.

ARTlicious offers a wide variety of artistic workshops and the scheduling is flexible. The owner Evelyn clearly loves what she does and is very accommodating. There is plenty of free parking in the underground lot and you can also do some other shopping while you're at the mall. Sign-up and learn something new! Art can be very cathartic; it is meditative and can help improve your mental health and overall quality of life. Especially during the long, dark winter months we could all use a creative outlet for our energy.
