The principal, Mr. Almienderez (sp?) is very hands on with the kids and is always available for a parent if the need arises. The educational staff, librarians, and para-professionals all seem to truly enjoy being there and it can be felt when you walk through the door. The art and music programs are above and beyond the usual programs in surrounding districts. It's obvious by the happiness in the students faces, that they feel genuinely cared about and everyone takes pride in their school by planting gardens, to keeping the campus clean and cheerful. I haven't met the entire staff, so it's always possible that there are a few staff members who don't possess the same pride and eagerness to make Ogden elementary the best school it can be. This is the only Blue Ribbon school in the district and surrounding areas! If you are looking for a small school with a close knit feel and teachers who enjoy coming to work everyday, then this school couldn't fit the bill any better!

The president of AIB International eliminated the BS&T residence course as well as almost all the seminars. They closed down their excellent baking science lab and facility in Manhattan, Kansas that was equipped by donations of most the equipment from the baking equipment as well as most the ingredients were donated by ingredient companies. The talented staff was either let go or has left AIB International. AIB International has made the decision to focus on Food Safety and baking is no longer important to them. Sorry Ashery G. that Fundamentals and Advanced Troubleshooting courses are no longer available. No more hands on training since the facility is GONE!! Great instructors and faculty are also GONE!!!! Be careful of any classes they offer since they really do not have any baking expertise left in the company. Huge loss for training people and employees in the baking industry!!! This will impact the availability of skilled bakers!!!!!

This review is specifically about the motorcycle Basic Riding Course taught through Barton…read more After having failed my riding test last year (by one point - but a fail is a fail) after taking the basic riding course through Harley Davidson, I decided to try again this year, before my learner's permit expired. I found that BCCC teaches the course locally (in lieu of having to drive to Topeka all 4 days, as I did for the HD course), and charges $70 less than HD. I figured at 54, worst case scenario; I'd rather lose $230 than $300 if I failed again. I also appreciated that the course was taught in my neighborhood, as that allowed me to leave my service dog at home during range practice, instead of paying for doggie daycare. The main instructor/coach, Bob McGee, was very knowledgeable on topic, and also gave great pointers on specific problems I was presenting with as I rode; which allowed me to focus on targeted changes. His co-instructor on the range, Dave, was also very supportive and positive. We were lucky to use the Fort Riley riding range, instead of the Junction City range, because the post range has a classroom on property (and vending machines and bathrooms). One of the things I liked best about this course, is that the Barton course uses Kawasaki Eliminators, 125cc motorcycles. The one I rode in my previous class last year, was a 500cc HD and was a heavy, intimidating motorcycle for me, as a first-time rider. The 125cc cycles were lighter and more comfortable, given my small stature and physical limitations. I also appreciated that the BCCC course had less range time, minimizing fatigue and building on successes. I am delighted to report that I passed this basic riding course with points to spare. But even more than that; the way Mr. McGee and his co-instructor coached the course gave me a good feeling about motorcycle riding, without feeling intimidated and fatigued as I did in my first course. I highly recommend the basic motorcycle riding course through Barton! And the instructors were cool with me bringing my SD to the classroom portions of the course.

You might be asking yourself, "Why are you rating a small town out in the middle of nowhere,…read moreKansas?" Great point. But I'm doing it precisely because it's a great little town. This town was mentioned in Thomas Frank's "What's the Matter with Kansas?" (which as an aside, is a great book for anyone who wants to know what the political landscape is like in that state) as a haven of the "ultra-Traditionalist" Society of St Pius X. True, there is a large school there - over 700 kids in a K-12 institution, as well as nearly 75 enrolled in a small 2-year liberal arts college (the two-year accreditation has been earned, the 4 year is in process). I think "ultra-Traditionalist" probably scares people a lot, so I would decode it a bit by saying that there is a majority in the town that attends Mass in the manner in which it was performed prior to 1962. It's the Traditional Latin Mass. Women wear veils, men dress up, etc. There's also, understandably, a more conservative bent to recreation, dress, and conduct. It's by no means anything like a Mormon or Amish community. Like any other place in which striving for virtue is held up as an ideal, there are going to be casualties, exceptions to the rule, and problems. That's called life. Apart from this religious aspect, the town itself is small, charming, with no stoplight and a decent park. The city government and business associations take supporting local business very seriously and there is no complacency here about the growing trend of "dead" small towns. There is too active a community in St. Marys for something like that to happen, and there are at least a couple very strong local employers. Like any small town, you can leave your keys in the ignition and leave your doors unlocked at night. And for a city boy who occasionally visits his sister, brother-in-law, and nieces and nephews out in St. Marys, it's a nice break from the "ordinary." More than likely, you will pass St. Mary's on 24 on your way to a K-State football or basketball game, or on your way to the Oz Museum in nearby Wamego.

Wonderful options at reasonable prices. The Wrap It Up holiday event is always a delight. The atmosphere is nice but not stuffy. Ok, I'm biased on the theater part -- I've seen numerous shows, been in some productions, and my kiddo participated in youth theater for years. And, I've NEVER been disappointed. The MAC goes for both "traditional" theater as well as cutting-edge productions. The directors work with local talent to help them grow into the best artists they can be at that moment in time. I'm continually impressed by the high quality of performances. Especially when I remember that the cast and crews are volunteers! I'm saddened to read James M's experience and I hope he talked with the MAC management about what happened. I found from personal experience the staff to be inclusive and respectful, and to be very receptive when there's a problem. My two cents -- great community art center!
