I found some of the shop assistants in the other fabric shops nearby to be pretty pushy, (In one place the shop assistant hit on my friend) but here they just left us alone to roam around and get inspired.

I was mistaken, my usual fabric shop was shut so rather than a wasted journey, I went in to have a look. Half an hour later I had whittled my selection down to an arm full of jerseys several wools and a few tartans. They have a pretty big selection bearing in mind the size of the shop and the price is amazingly reasonable. Now I have no reason to buy fabric anywhere else. But do bear in mind once the stock is gone, its gone... so buy what you see.

I've never bought fabric from a shop before, i've always gone to the market, and this place was a bit pricey at £3/m for undyed cotton. The place is an Aladdin's cave of fabric and the staff were helpful and asked what weight fabric i wanted. I hadn't a clue but they had some good advice for me. They even climbed over mountains of other fabric to get me the cloth i wanted. I'm going to keep shopping around for somewhere cheaper, but will go back if i'm in the area.

To be honest, most of the fabric stores on Berwick St. have grouchy and sullen employees, but this place is the worst. I have shopped at the fabric shops on Berwick Street since 2013 and the rotten attitude of the staff at this store (in my experience) has been consistent. It has not mattered who has worked there, that's the funny part, I am not even speaking about one person. Everyone I have ever encountered there is rude. About two years ago I mentioned how unpleasant the staff were to another salesperson at MacCulloch & Wallis and he told me that he used to work there, agreed that the staff were unfriendly and in particular worked a woman who customers always complained about. The negative vibes this store gives off has discouraged me from shopping there for about a year or more. But today I thought I would go in, because it does have a great selection. However, once again the Berwick Street Cloth Shop vibe was moody. Therefore I have finally decided to write this negative review because of my final horrible experience. I was looking at fabric bent down while a sales person was busy organizing the rolls of cloth across from me. She accidentally hit me in the face with the end of the fabric roll. I stammered "oh sorry" and as she turned around to glare at me, she aloofly said "what, did I hit you?" to which I replied "yes". She then very (surprise!) rudely responded "sorry". So I said "I am sorry I guess I am in the way" to which she said "no it's fine". LIKE OBVIOUSLY IT'S FINE I AM A CUSTOMER. It's absolutely okay to accidentally bump into someone or hit them in the face, but to do so and not react until the person who has been hit says sorry to which you then glare back is too much. Literally comical. There are so many shops on Berwick Street, for price and value go to my favorite shop there The Cloth Shop. The selection is varied and the staff are much much much more friendly. Fabric shops should be enjoyable to enter and explore. No one should feel intimidated to go and ask for help or buy stuff. Lastly I feel bad for anyone who works there that is nice, because I have not met you and this review is focused on everyone being glum. But in my experience I have only ever encountered mean spirited people. Two stars, one for beautiful goods and the other for the one nice employee who maybe exists there.

As we know, indie shops can be hit or miss, since they tend to fit the owner's tastes...but I have to say, this shop had me wanting to buy ALL THE THINGS and start up many new crafts. (Restrained myself, as I had limited luggage space and Parisian craft shops on the itinerary.) Yarn and apparel fabrics were the main attractions for me--I picked up some cotton that later became a skirt, and a couple balls of bulky British yarn that are now keeping a friend's head warm in Toronto. I also added notions, markers, iron-ons, and paper goods to my craft arsenal. (I don't normally do paper stuff but how could I not buy giant cross-stitch paper??) I was super impressed by the machine parts collection--who knew that many feet existed?! I probably walked the whole store 3x to make sure I wasn't missing anything I couldn't live without. Anyway, amazing stock aside, the owner is incredibly sweet & kind. We had a nice little chat about the shop, and she graciously shared some business tips. Since that visit, I've been following her Instagram and *really* wish I had managed to take a class when I was in town. (Now I know for next time!!) The shop is bright, cheery, inviting, and beautifully pulled together. If you're in London and you or someone you love is a crafter, swing by this store. You're bound to find something(s) wonderful.

This shop has a very well selection of the outmost exclusive fabrics. It might be a bit of a trek to go all the way to St. Johns Wood, but it is worth it. They are also open on a Saturday, so you can combine it with your weekend plans. They are the biggest couture fabric store in England and have an unrivalled choice of materials, which are updated, with an almost daily delivery of new fabrics. When you start talking to the staff, they proudly show off their knowledge and even though I could not afford buying more then 50cm of a designer fabric, they still make me feel important. Even thought they advertise themselves as one of the largest carriers of Liberty fabrics, if you're actually a fan of Liberty's textiles, I'd suggest you go to Liberty itself rather than coming here, since frankly, I feel like the "enormous" Liberty stock is a lot of unpopular leftovers that never sold. Aside from Liberty fabrics, the other textiles they carry just aren't that nice - but the prices don't reflect their relatively underwhelming quality - not that they're expensive or even overpriced, per se, they just aren't a good value... you wouldn't dash in here in a pinch and come away with something you were fond of, nor something that was a bargain. The service here is also mixed. I once had a great experience when I was once looking for a very specific type of fabric in a very specific colour, and they were very helpful to the extent that they searched with me and even went out of their way to check their back stock. So at times they really seem to care about serving their customers, but I've also had just *okay* service here - so it probably all just depends on who is working. For the most part, I'd say there's no good reason to make a point of coming here... unless you're looking for an out-of-print Liberty fabric, which they very well may still have... collecting dust on the shelf.

The service when I went in was extremely hands-off. I don't like to be bothered when I'm shopping, but even so... I felt totally lost in the store and really could've used some guidance - signage - a friendly staff person - something. That said, when I actually asked for help, they were friendly and told me everything I needed to know. I found a lot of classic prints, including Capel, which is my one true fabric love, at cheaper prices than at Liberty itself - not everything here is just old prints that didn't sell, lots of the patterns they had were on the shelves when I went to Liberty (although admittedly, it was more classics than seasonals). And they had the wool/cotton blend I wanted in a limited selection as well, which I was very excited about. All in all, I'm really glad I made the trip out here. Not luxe by any stretch of the imagination, but a really fun and affordable-for-Liberty-fabric shopping experience.

Firstly, the shop doesn't feel imposing or intimidating to enter, but neither does it feel like a chaotic heap of dirty fabric. I was quite content to wander around and browse/stroke the pretty fabrics without feeling I'll catch something, and without the staff hovering around me. When I was ready to make a purchase the gentleman who served me was very friendly and gave me sound advice on what direction the grain in my fabric went (so that I would know which way to cut it) and he was very accommodating to my specific requests. Also unique among the fabric shops around here, Bovorik has a decent basic haberdashery selection, with things like needles, ribbons, elastic, fabric dyes and all the other bits and pieces you might need.
