6/7/25: We came to the Ramapo College musical wing to see a 110th birthday tribute to guitar…read moreextraordinaire Les Paul (1915-2009). Tickets to this event were $30 per person. For those unfamiliar with Mr. Paul, he was a master guitarist of many genres. In addition, Mr. Paul was one of the pioneers of the solid-body electric guitar, and his prototype, called the Log, served as inspiration for the Gibson Les Paul. Mr. Paul is the only inductee in both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the National Inventors Hall of Fame. (Talk about accomplishments!) Three groups: "The Ed Loeb Quartet", "Tom and Sandy Doyle" and "D n A" performed in Mr. Paul's honor. (Tom Doyle had worked alongside Les Paul). The afternoon had two intermissions. Outside the auditorium, water, cheese, crackers, and other finger foods were supplied by a local ShopRite. During the second intermission, everyone had a slice of Les Paul's birthday cake. The event was extra special to me. I had the pleasure of seeing Les Paul perform at the old and new Iridium Room (NYC) on several occasions. "Note to event organizers": Navigating the college was very confusing. On top of it, the young woman at the security booth gave us "terrible directions". In addition, she didn't make any mention of a shuttle. Luckily, I did google a map of the college campus. Many of the program attendees were of an "older generation", which may not have been to tech savvy. In addition, the attendees may not have been able to walk up the college campus hills. We walked about 90% of the way and a car drove us to the event. After the show, we started walking back and a public safety car drove us back to the parking lot.

The teachers are kind and very knowledgeable about what it takes to help students learn to the best of their ability. I saw students paying attention and actually LEARNING! I think it was the way the teachers kept their students' interests and the level of engagement in the classroom. I am particularly impressed with the friendliness of the staff- they are very approachable and I think that is important in a school community. I am excited to have found this school. ALSO I want to emphasize how much I love that this is a public charter school. Their curriculum is slightly different than a "traditional" public school. The teachers are given freedom to teach in more creative ways (I think that why the kids seemed more involved) - I looked at a great number of schools, but this one really impressed me. I am very excited about Golden Door.

Holy Trinity School, on Maple Avenue, has experienced about a 24 percent decline in students since 2000 and currently has an enrollment of 183, said Jim Goodness, a spokesman for the archdiocese. Church officials plan to merge Holy Trinity with St. Francis School, a parish school on South Main Street that also has suffered enrollment loss and is down to about 118 students. The archdiocese decided that St. Francis School would be the one to stay open because it has received extensive renovations in recent years. The school is under a flight path for Teterboro Airport and received government grants for soundproofing, Goodness said. "To try and level off the costs of providing education and stabilizing enrollment, which has fallen at both schools, the natural solution is that the parishes should combine their schools into one," Goodness said, adding that such issues as transportation and staffing were still being worked out. Holy Trinity is the sixth parish school that the archdiocese plans to close this year and the only one in Bergen County. The other schools are in Hudson, Essex and Union counties. Goodness said that schools with declining enrollments typically turn to the parish for financial assistance. But with parishes also struggling with changing demographics and increased costs, their ability to support schools is limited. "It is reaching the point in some parishes where they cannot support the school in the way they might have in the past," Goodness said. The pastor at Holy Trinity said the parish was contributing about $150,000 to $200,000 to the school, but the enrollment was still falling. The tuition is about $3,200 a year for parish families. **************************** How could I *not* give my Elementary school five stars? (Especially if it's Religious!) No, seriously. All kidding aside, this was a Catholic K-8 school, complete with boys and girls in plaid uniforms, nuns in habits, and daily assembly outside in the parking lot (YES, even in the SNOW) to 'line up' and take attendance. Though I was never baptised and never raised Catholic, I thought this was a great place. The teachers and sisters at this place ran a TIGHT ship. You wouldn't ever THINK of smack talking, much less bring stuff to school that didn't belong. The fear of the cruxifix at the front of each classroom was enough to set you straight, regardless of your religion. Looking back, for a faculty of ALL women, these ladies knew what they were doing- they did NOT take crap from us kids! AND, I even learned a few things, science and math, and they even had art and music class. Gym in those uniforms was pretty uncomfortable, though I was only there from 3rd through 5th grade ... and THEN I went to public school in Southern California! Oh, the horror!

He was nervous at first but very quickly made friends he talked about every day. The older students were friendly, and the curriculum is great. Lots of homework. Maybe too much tbh! Also, he used to hold his pencil funny but now his handwriting has improved with the assistance of his elementary school teachers. Now in middle school, we've been happy with the changes at the new building at the boys and girls clubs. Its also important for private schools to know that the fit is important, and we've had our experience at some in the area. I will say that we've had a great experience so far. There is $1440,00 only for Tech fee, so you get IPAD Mini that doesn't cost even $300,00 so they don't have the work to correct the tests all give by EXAMSOFT. The cost for freshmen is $6691,00 first trimester only. Many others that also fail will try again next year, they said that we have to learn by ourselves,disappointed to find that, why am I paying almost $10.000,00 if I have to teach myself? Dont expect to even learn phlebotomy in your RN, they are not responsible! Clinicals are OK, but if you graduate your employer wants your certification, besides all students in my class at least 80% including myself have already experience in the hospital set. There is no difference from Community College, so judge by yourself if work pays this extra money, more nobody makes any kind of criticism because they have to come back and finish, we are trapped there. Most students like me come a board with big loans, and they have come from other Colleges just trying to finish this "TWO YEARS" nursing degree.

Some students are so behind at RHS, in the sped class they review the alphabet (no joke) watch kids TV shows, write letters to Santa and play with childrens toys.
