Changed trains here in transit for about 1 hour. Station is covered and pretty functional. Station has plenty of places to eat. Facilty has large lifts so can carry large number of people plus luggage.  Platform 5 has a wh smith, pumpkin cafe, and cafe shack.  Platform 6 has an upper crust, wh smith  and crewe hero pub.  Bathrooms are small. read more

Crewe Railway Station is quite a nice station, especially for a small town in Cheshire East, I travelled via this station on an Arriva Trains service from Manchester Piccadilly to Cardiff Central and was quite pleased and surprised with the facilities on offer, which even comes close to beating what is on offer at slightly larger cities such as Stoke on Trent where you would expect more. It is operated by Virgin Trains with many routes passing through across multiple companies including ATW, who I travelled with today. This station is also used by many other companies including CrossCountry and sees at least 23 trains an hour pass through, being on a central position on the West Coast mainline sees Virgin Trains have routes to the likes of Birmingham, London, Glasgow, Manchester and Edinburgh from here. Trains to Derby, Bristol, Cardiff, Stockport, Liverpool, Chester, Aberdeen and Blackpool (from 2018) also call here. There are 12 platforms here, which is needed for the vast amount of trains that pass through, with newsagents such as Whsmith on both sides, for example Virgin Trains use Platform 11 for Northbound journey's to the likes of Glasgow, North Wales and Liverpool and they then use Platform 5 for Southbound journey's, which is shared by London Midland's service to Birmingham and the Arriva service towards Glasgow. This really is quite a nice, cool station and a central hub for railway travel, which certainly gives Crewe the name as a railway town, it is an old station from the mid 1800's but still is relatively modern and quite a nice station, which deserves 3 stars. Perhaps more facilities at the station to make it more of a nicer place for long distance travel which this station seems to be all about. read more

We used to change trains here every year when I was a child going to/from Scotland and I was really interested to see it again a few days ago. There are 12 platforms and foot bridges, steps and lifts which make all areas accessible to everyone. There are a few shops, including at least one bookshop (which I didn't have time to visit unfortunately). I visited a large WH Smith newspaper stand and was impressed by how friendly and helpful the girl was who served me. The whole station, or what I saw of it in the time I waited there, seemed to be quite shabby but it has some interesting 19th century architecture which reflects a long and interesting history. The station was completed as far back as 1837! (Apparently it was the first hotel in the world to have a station hotel too - and it's still open for business today) I particularly like the old two-tone brick arches visible from some of the platforms. Crewe Station is soon to share a £50m fund for improvements (along with 9 other stations) which I hope will bring better facilities and return it to some of its former glory. read more

Having moved out of the city to Nantwich, Crewe is now my local station and is on the route both to Manchester and London, offering quick routes to both destinations - perfect for work. I think other Yelpers have been overly harsh in their reviews of Crewe station. Having used a lot of trains to commute to work I can wholeheartedly say that Crewe station (apart from main city stations such as London Euston or Manchester Piccadilly) is one of the best and most efficient train stations in the country. There are over 4 or 5 places to eat at Crewe station; including a Pumpkin Cafe, Upper Crust, Hero's Pizza and a few street traders selling breads and coffees. It even has a WH Smiths. This is actually very good, considering the likes of other large town stations such as Bolton or Stockport where there's nothing at all apart from a greasy spoon cafe. Crewe station has a first class Virgin lounge for crying out loud. The other waiting rooms are heated, and comfortable and clean. As far as commuting goes, I'm glad I commute from Crewe. read more

This station is scary when you're traveling alone & arrive somewhere you've never been before. I forget the platform but its near the lounge & coffee shop. The platform is very long & when you walk past the lift (you'll know it when you smell it), or towards it depending if you're coming or going, its quite dark & deserted and I never felt safe. I was waiting for someone to jump out of the shadows or from around the corner at me. Since the station was practically empty I walked as fast as I could towards civilization, aka the lounge & coffee shop. This is where everyone seems to congregate. Not being familiar with the rail system (we don't have it in Vegas), I found the departure & arrival boards confusing. I had a hard time finding any station employees to help me find my way or answer questions. I almost missed the train to Manchester airport because what was on my ticket & what was on the departure board didn't match, just the departure time. Frustrating. I'm looking for a train that specifically says the train to Manchester Airport departs at X time; not a train headed to its furthest destination I don't know the name of departing at X time...and get off at the airport. So in short, single female travelers should avoid this station if possible. If you're not familiar with the rail system don't expect to easily find someone to help you, and be prepared to guess which train you're on because you'll do a lot of that. If I ever find myself taking the train between Manchester & Wolverhampton I will pay extra for a nonstop journey and/or route myself thru Manchester Piccadilly to avoid this place. I do like that lifts are near the stairs & the public & crossing between platforms is relatively easy. read more

I like the station as it's very centralised, I have used the station on many occasions for changes to London, Hereford, Nuneaton etc. there are 12 platforms on the station, numerous places to eat, drink, buy newspapers etc. The station is also very handy for going to football matches at Crewe Alexandra FC, which is just a mere 5-minute walk from the station! read more

The station is functional-just about. You have to do a lot of running up stairs and over bridges. There is no logic to the platform numbers either. It's is cold, drafty and depressing even on a sunny day. I have been using this station regularly for over 20 years and the only improvements have been a slight refurb to the ladies toilets. There is a small whsmith which helps waste a few minutes if your connecting train gets delayed. There is also a small pub and cafe, but really nothing to talk about. The second hand book swap shelf is quite a nice touch though. 3 stars is generous I think!;) read more

Crewe train station is a very important station on the british railway line with many train journeys changing here, so why does it look so bad??? They really need to clean it up and make the station more appealing. The Railline is a great piece of our history so why not keep the standard that was implace years ago!!We should be proud of our history. The facilities are the worst I have ever seen. If you want to go somewhere depressing go to Crewe Station. For such a big station that serves such a huge area, it is grim. The facilities are old, tired and poor. It seems to blow a gale no matter what platform you're on no matter the weather. It's dark, dingy and dirty. The large cafe is horrible. It looks like it's been made entirely of plastic and is not a nice place to wait for your train. The whole station is in desperate need of some money spending on it. I'd say don't go but obviously if you've somewhere to be you have no choice! Be prepared though. Don't get there too early as you want to be able to walk straight through and get straight on your train where possible nasty. read more

On behalf of my disabled wife and myself, I would like to thank the Crewe Virgin station staff who helped us immensely during last Wednesday's station evacuation. My wife has to use a rollator for walking. When your staff saw her leaving the train, they immediately arranged a wheelchair for her, and then pushed her to the Crewe Arms whilst other staff helped me with our luggage. When we returned to the station, the staff were equally helpful and enabled us to get to the Chester train as quickly as possible. Their efficiency and kindness in dealing with my wife's situation made a great impression on us both, and we would be very grateful if our thanks could be passed on to the staff concerned. read more

I have to comment on the excellent service I received last week from Jordan in the Advanced Booking Office. He was so helpful, I came away thinking I must tell someone. So having looked everywhere for a Customer Service phone number and coming up blank, I resort to telling everyone on here! I was enquiring about a trip to Birmingham next weekend. Jordan looked at all options for me and came up with the best deal but didn't push to make a sale because he pointed out that I could buy a flexible weekend ticket on Saturday for the same price. Which would mean that if anything changed in the meantime, I wouldn't lose out on an advanced ticket. He also offered me a timetable but agreed that it was complicated and proceeded to print out trains for my preferred times for both Saturday and Sunday. It was a breath of fresh air to be helped by such a lovely, polite and helpful young man. Thank you Jordan. read more

Today was a difficult day for Crewe station staff because of the terrible weather which caused so many delays. I want to thank Mark and colleagues in the information office for their kindness this morning in helping me get an earlier train to Euston in spite of some complication with my ticket. crewe station is a really busy station being where it is in the rail network. they have announced plans after plans of refurbs, facelifts, even relocating the station but still nothing yet has come to fruition. the lack of facilities here is pretty appalling when it is compared to the bigger stations across the northwest such as manchester picadilly. there is a couple of WHSmiths which are pretty tiny but do the job if you are nipping in for a newspaper or magazine for the journey ahead. also there are 2 or 3 cafe/coffeeshop type places where you can get a brew and a sandwich too. the station itself though just looks so old and uninviting. the parking facilities are poor and aren't even right by the station and cost a fortune! the only saving grace of crewe station is the staff there. the people at the ticket office are always so pleasant and helpful - even when you are asking all sorts of enquiries at 6.30 in the morning!! the guys in the virgin ticket office too are absolutely fantastic. they search out all the best deals for you if you need a train and are looking for a bargain journey at short notice! read more
