They have quite an assortment of pastries - many of them made with the puff pastry or croissant dough, pastry cream and quince paste. They also have the standard lard or fat based croissants that they call medialunas and quite a few promotions combining coffee, juice and two or three pastries. It's nearly impossible to find brewed decaf coffee or ground decaf coffee anywhere in Argentina. When you order decaf they basically give you a watered-down version of regular coffee and it is both disgustingly lacking in flavor and still quite high in caffeine which is not good for those of us who can't tolerate it. You're better off bringing some Nescafé powder decaf and ordering hot milk to which you add the decaf powder. We only had coffee and pastries so we can't speak to any of the other food but others were ordering sandwiches and salads and they all looked decent. The staff is very friendly and it's a nice little getaway for a late morning or early lunch snack.

It's located in the Monserrat neighborhood a couple of blocks off the Plaza de Mayo and up the street from the beautiful Basilica of St. Francis of Assisi. The waiter explained to me why one must never say El Puerto Rico. It's La Puerto Rico. But apparently my Spanish is not good enough to catch the nuances. Just go with "la." But I do know this. La Puerto Rico was great for lunch. The service was excellent. We both had huge slices of savory pies -- think of the lunch in an English pub, but tastier. Mine was pumpkin and onions and it was terrific. My wife had a glass of lovely white wine. I stuck with a soft drink. Some of the older reviews are pretty critical. Apparently La Puerto Rico shut down during covid and reopened with a new menu, chef, and servers. If you're nearby, give La Puerto Rico a try.

The food is fresh, tasty, and consciously made. My sandwich (pumpkin, onion, goat cheese, arugula) came with a pretty bright pink dijon beet dip. The beef in the steak sandwich was miraculously not tough, considering the cut. There are set specials between 8am and 12:30pm, and then again later in the evening (for breakfast and merienda). Larger lunch sets (menu del dia) start around 90 pesos and include a glass of wine. My cafe con leche was around 30 pesos, but enormous. Worth a visit? Yes, if you want to settle down in a cute cafe with some newspapers and magazines. The prices are somewhat higher and there's nothing much here for a tourist to gawk at, but I can see this being a local favorite for lunch dates (and solo dates).
