I SUGGEST YOU ONLY TAKE THE ROAD IF YOU HAVE NOTHING TO TOW. ITS NOT GOOD FOR ANY RVS, TRAILERS, OR CAMPERS!!!!! It's an 18 mile one way, dirt road that's full of powered sand. It took us about 50 minutes with our camper to get to the lighthouse. If we had known that, we wouldn't have come on a day when we had the camper. It's a free to climb tower and a gift shop that says they're open 10-6 but again DO NOT GO HERE IF YOURE NOT READY FOR THE ROAD IN!! I'm not joking here, if you are in a smaller car or in an RV and you encounter one of the sandy patches- you're not getting out without a tow truck. In a larger vehicle, you may not turn around to leave once you get to the end. Go with a full tank of gas and prayers for your undercarriage. read more

This is a must see for anyone in the area. The road is a long winding dirt road which was scary but well worth it in the end. The light house keeper was friendly and helpful and knowledgeable. The view from the top of the light house can't be beat. I would go here every day if I could. Absolutely worth it. read more

It's a drive, but well worth your time. Be prepared for a dirt road drive once you leave M123. It's a beautiful drive! Once you arrive at the lighthouse, the Lake Superior view and beach is spectacular. Looking for rocks? There's a few million right on this beach. There is a gift shop (staff are friendly and knowledgeable) and restrooms, but you must take your trash out with you. No cost to see the lighthouse and access its beach. read more

Wish the sign off M123 was more transparent about distance and time required - 19 miles but 50 minutes one way. signage was extremely poor; Looks like locals put up signs here and there to help people (thank you whoever you are ). Was a fun impromptu excursion but definitely make sure you have a full tank of gas. Worth it for sure. Small camp ground possibly for RV only? read more

This was my fav lighthouse in the Upper P. As I've said this was our first visit up here but want to return. So much gorgeous scenery ... beaches, lakes, forest, lighthouses. waterfalls. This was my fav .. it was a photographers dream and my husband was aggravated that i said I would like to come back when we visit again. The drive to get here was miserable. First we have a car not suv or truck so the gravel and dirt roads.. was difficult on the car and us. The road was narrow and after driving the road and back we felt like we he whiplash from the being bounced all around. maybe a higher vehicle like a truck would be less uncomfortable. they did something to the road to make it horrible bumpy .. graded it ... probably for drainage .. my husband referred to it as the washboard section. so the gravel/dirt road is EXTREMELY BUMPY. We had to go around 10 miles an hour and the dust and swarms of bugs were extreme. Since we had to go so slow we were on that part for over an hour each way. It was awful. The gps and phone signal is hit or miss. There were times the gps was directing us to a path that was obviously a hiking trail. But once we got there is was magnificent .. cool colored rocky beach .. idyllic historic lighthouse. very picturesque .. probably good night sky out there since so far from anything. Some people were camping in tents. I sure wouldn't want to drive out of there in the dark. loved the rocks in the water and beach. This was on Lake Superior the water was lovely and clear but Very cold. read more

Wow - excellent place to visit, remote, plan your route. If you take the more roundabout way you will be fine.

Most beautiful lighthouse I've seen anywhere. Hands down more enchanting than any I've seen on the east or west coast of the U.S. it's all about the experience here, the drive out down the two track dirt road is challenging (like 25 miles), no cell service. Just watch the trees for "to the lighthouse" signage. You'll be accompanied by ATVs in & out, so drive slow for safety! The beach is lovely & stretches for miles in both directions. Bring your lunch & plan to stay for a while, the view is amazing. read more

this was our light at the end of the tunnel. our gps took us through a dirt path and directly into the swamp. after getting stuck in the mud for not one, not two, but THREE hours and having our man great lakes towing pull us out, we were still determined to go see this lighthouse. they let us use their phone to tell our parents we made it out of the mud. the views were amazing from the lighthouse and it's truly a great experience. after purchasing some deserving "i survived to road to crisp point lighthouse" the lady working even offered us some sandwiches which is quite literally so kind. she gave us some warm words and we went on our way. truly would recommend seeing this lighthouse but would not recommend getting stuck in the mud. read more

Visited on 7/7 this week and the drive out in the dark was interesting, the staff were very friendly... they take a shift to camp a few days and pass the torch to the next caretakers on the list which could range from locals(the couple was from Escanaba and as far as they knew the only locals) to coastals and to me this is genius. There is NO cell signal and the emergency landline near the souvenir shop is apparently mostly static so keep that in mind. Also the mosquitos are crazy at night and the black flies are crazy in the daytime so biteproof black pants and a white top should concentrate them in an area anyone wearing a ball cap can handle. Take a blacklight and a flashlight to be the first and or last on the beach... apparently there are reactive rocks to be found but there's two guys claiming to have a patent on the mineral rights so if they see the "Yooperlites" on ebay they heckle for a cut. I had a long chat with the gas station attendant in Newberry on my way up who said "Eric" (one of the guys claiming patent rights) had just come back from giving a tour to a couple that night which the Lighthouse caretakers confirmed when we chatted in the morning. I saw two lifted trucks one completely loaded with gear both with mud over the windows and a mid sized sedan with hardly any except a spattering behind the wheel wells- I beat my XJ in 4wd tryna make it before first light but on the way out 2wd slow the whole way and only had one sandy deepish puddle I popped the 4wd in quick before I would have come to a stop and once out I backed through it slow, stopped in the middle and crawled forward/backwards no problems. The only negative I saw was that they didn't have 906 stickers/stuff- it's a 906 experience for sure. Definately go to the shop first if it's open and see what kinda rocks you should peel your eyeballs for as you could pass over the prettiest rocks you've ever seen bc you didn't know what to look for;{} read more
