We really liked the food, and we loved the staff: mom and daughter were in the kitchen, dad was behind the bar and pouring the wine, and son was waiting tables, translating English, French, and German (that we heard) into Italian. Plus, he has a sharp wit and a keen sense of humor. We decided to go back the next night because (a) we really liked the food and wanted to try more of the menu, (b) we wanted some of the other family to experience the joint and (c) we weren't enamored with the other options in Verona. When we walked in, the son, Andrea, at first looked surprised and then got a huge grin on his face. We now felt like friends. The third night, we convinced the whole crew go back to the restaurant. When we walked in, he welcomed us warmly until we said, "28?" Fortunately, two of the families were unable to join us, so we only took up about a quarter of the restaurant. We tasted everything on the menu, including the specials. It was all great. By the third night, dad was actually smiling when he came around to help the Americans with their drinks. On our way out, mom and daughter came out of the kitchen to say goodbye, and Andrea gave us a hug. We now felt like family. If you ever find yourself in Verona, I highly recommend this place. We will certainly be going back.

Our food tour stopped in here where we enjoyed some delicious primi platti (first course) meals…read more The interior is a beautiful restaurant with lots of light and exposed stone walls. It was quiet when we arrived at noon and then filled up quite a lot by the time we departed. Clearly, a restaurant for the locals. First course, a big pile of a pasta called "bigolini" which I've not seen before. It is like thick spaghetti with a rough surface. That is needed because the sauce on it was quite thick and another interesting taste - nettles. Definitely different. Second course, risotto made with a red wine reduction. Very flavorful and rich and the pasta was perfectly al dente. We'll definitely need to return to here for dinner! [Review 16980 overall - 185 in Italy - 496 of 2022.]

The restaurant is very cute (free WiFi) and homey feeling with an exposed brick interior and interesting decoration choices throughout the space. If you're so inclined there's also and outdoor patio area. Maybe we just ordered poor menu items but the food was underwhelming and not particularly standout. For our anti pasta course we went with the cured meat trio with polenta. The meats weren't particularly good and combined with the bland polenta it just wasn't a good combo. For our primi pasta course we had the bigoli in a horse (yes horse) bolognese sauce. Of our three dishes this was the best. For our main meat course with did horse cheeks braised in an Amarone wine sauce with polenta. I didn't like the polenta any better on our second dish and the cheek just didn't do it for me. I ended up leaving the bulk of the dish uneaten. All in all-maybe I just ordered poorly but I if I ever make it back to Verona this spot will be a pass for me.
