I'm extremely sad to say, but this is one of the worst places to eat in Hilo. Just why, is it so expensive for absolutely the worst food!? I got the chicken strips (because, who can mess up strips!? Like they usually are frozen and you fry to order) Well well they proved me wrong! Their "chicken strips" were very thinly sliced dried out chicken breast. Barely breaded and most likely thrown into a fryer until dried but not crisp. Yeah that junk was $17 for 4 tiny dried out chicken pieces. I didn't eat it. It was almost like a smack in our face, to serve it to us (look at the picture for reference) I'm sure even the waitress wouldn't eat it! Side of fries were $13 for old fries! Old fries! My husband got the burger and it was like a frozen May's patty on a store bought bun for $27 dollars!!!!! Please do not eat here. There was someone singing, the output was echoing in the entire place. So we couldn't even here each other speaking.

My husband and I wanted to eat some burgers and wings while we watch the FIFA World Cup so we figure we come to a sports bar with good burgers. My husband ordered his hot wings, burger and drink and I ordered my burger with drink. We were kind of surprised that they had hula on all the TVs. So we asked if they could put on the FIFA World Cup, the waitress didn't know what that was so I had to explain that it's the men's world soccer championships going on. She said they were trying to find the channel. They finally did and we were enjoying ourselves. We got our burgers pretty quickly and as we were almost done eating them, my husband asked if she forgot to bring our hot wings. We were ready to leave. She never came around to refill our drinks and she forgot to order our hot wings. Oh well, I guess it's hard to find a sports bar that is actually a sports bar. All televisions were on but no music or any sound to cover the silence besides people talking. Will try again next time

We had great service, yummy food, in a nice cool sports-bar. They had huge windows with ocean views, and multiple TVs with lots of different sports. We tried the Mauna Loa fries (delish, kinda like poutine) and each had a burger. The burgers were cooked perfectly and had both flavor and fresh toppings. We ended up taking home the sides and half the appetizer - still good later on! Well worth the stop!

This is such a fun spot for a good bar and grill vibe! Family friendly but also perfect for a younger crowd night out. Our servers name was Andrew and he did a phenomenal job checking in and offering suggestions. They were out of a lot since they were so busy during the day but they still had such great menu options and Andrew was able to help out a ton. The food came out hot and tasty and we left with full bellies and a new T Shirt!

Cronies Bar & Grill is my go-to in Hilo when i'm craving a great burger. If you aren't a big burger person, their other items are not to be slept on either. Their Mauna Loa Gravy-Cheese Fries is a perfect appetizer that can be shared amongst your whole party. If you're not that big into bar food, they definitely have one of the best steaks you can find anywhere in town. Off of their "not-so-secret" secret menu, the Lyman Steak might be the most delicious thing on their menu. They have multiple TV's that span across the entire restaurant, making it easy to catch all of your favorite sports. The ambiance of the restaurant is perfect for football Sundays! The servers are all great as well, but our server Mathew made the experience a 10/10. I recommend this place to everyone.

Cronies has some of my favorite bar foods. I've always been a fan of the burgers. It's a mix of your classic burgers and one of a kind like the "loco burger". I was impressed with the service and how fast the food came out. I actually went with a friend who worked there so maybe that's why we were seated immediately lol. The steak and salad were also very good and the portions were bigger than expected. The prices have gone up from previous years but definitely a place to check out if you're in downtown hilo.

Chicken burger , tots , chicken sandwich yummmm.

The restaurant is nice, cozy atmosphere. Service was outstanding. Food was absolutely delicious. Try the tater tots!!!!! Prices are reasonable. Restrooms are very clean. My family will be coming back here again. They all left with their tummy's full.

We had the Tamashiro burger which was everything inside, from bacon to two different cheeses, onion rings, mushroom, onion etc.

Went in for lunch and was denied service, had to do takeout which had an extra charge. Food was poor quality.

It's close, there's always parking, and it's got that laid-back, local energy where you can laugh loud and no one's going to shoot you a look. It does get loud inside, but in that kind of way that makes it feel like everybody's having a good time, not like you're in a cafeteria. Just don't expect a quiet dinner conversation, unless you're reading lips. The service? Always sweet, always kind. Lily (I think that's the correct spelling!) has taken care of us more than once and she's a gem... warm, attentive, and easy to chat with. She's the kind of person who remembers what you ordered last time and tells you honestly what's good. As for the food... Bacon Blue Burger: My husband had this last time and it was yum. Juicy, flavorful, hits all the right rich notes without being greasy. That one's a solid order. Ribs: The barbecue sauce was really good... but the ribs themselves were dry and overdone. Not terrible, but not what I'd call a win either. If they could just dial in the texture, that sauce would carry it home. Kalbi Short Ribs: Best thing on the menu so far. Tender, rich, and full of flavor. Get those. Mashed Potatoes: "All mash" is the move. They're creamy and comforting... total comfort food. Hamburger Steak: Another standout. Probably one of the best in the area. Classic done right. Thai Chicken Pasta: Watch out... it's got some serious heat! Spicy, but good. Not for the faint of tongue, but worth it if you're into that kind of kick. Lilikoi Fizz: Really tasty but heavy on the lilikoi. If they eased up and added a little more club soda, it would be more balanced. Desserts: * Lava Cake was good... warm and classic. * Chocolate Decadent Cake was just okay. It comes fridge-cold (probably so it doesn't melt), but I feel like if they let it sit out for ten minutes before serving, it would be way better. * Brownie Sundae was yum, according to my husband... and I trust his dessert radar. All in all, Kaleo's is the kind of place you root for. You want them to keep getting better, and they mostly are. The hits are worth coming back for, and even the misses aren't deal-breakers. We'll be back, and we're excited to keep trying more of the menu.

My wife and I stopped by for pre-dinner drinks and we absolutely loved the drinks that we were able to try out. I started out with a cocktail called the "Spam Dram", a crispy Spam fat-washed barrel-proof bourbon, combined with seared Spam and nori syrup and topped off with a spam musubi garnish. As one might guess, this drink was presented in a spam musubi tin, and atop the bed of crushed ice was an *entire* spam musubi. The drink was a perfect representation of spam musubi in a glass -- sweet, savory, and full of umami. Props to whichever bartender put together this creative drink. The next drink I ordered was the "Smoky Bear", another bourbon based cocktail. This one had bird's eye chili essence in it, and was much closer than your traditional Old Fashioned, except it had an incredible amount of smokiness and a punch of heat to it as well. If you enjoy stiff drinks with complexity, look no further than this cocktail. While we were seated at the bar, we overheard somebody close to us mentioning a password special that had been posted on the Instagram page of The Hidden Nene. We checked their latest story posted two hours earlier and the password special for the day was a "fizz me baby one more time", a strawberry and yuzu gin fizz. My wife ordered this cocktail as her second drink and loved how refreshing the drink tasted. Overall, if you consider yourself a cocktail connoisseur, you owe it to yourself to check out The Hidden Nene if you're in Hilo.
