I have no doubt that Nancy's approach could work really well for some families, depending on their…read moreparenting style and their child's profile. However, I want to warn some families that Nancy might not be a good fit, and to not spend your time and money if your situation is anything like ours: Our (nonbinary) kid was recently diagnosed by a neuropsychologist as being neurodivergent and anxious with slow processing speed and executive functioning challenges. Nancy's approach seemed to be very deficit-focused (rather than strengths-based), treating our child's innate brain wiring as a disciplinary issue that could be forced out of them with authoritarian parenting. In fact, Nancy advocated using physical force if necessary, to get our child to obey. We obviously know our child, and we've learned enough so far about neurodivergence to understand that it's not an obedience issue, and that forcing them to do anything works against their brain wiring rather than with it. At the very least, Nancy's strategies would undermine any trust we've built with our child, and at the worst, cause them emotional trauma. Again, I think Nancy could be great for a typically-wired kid who has some discipline/obedience/motivation challenges, but could be traumatizing for a neuro-atypical kid. I wish we had known about that going in, or we might have chosen to save our $245 to spend on someone who specializes in strengths-based approaches with neurodivergent kids. Good luck everyone!
