We recently used David Cross at Cross Estate Planning to review and recast our existing living trust. We found Dave to be exceedingly easy to work with. He first presented us with an alternative form of our trust that was much less complex and understandable than our existing trust. He asked us for our personal details and how we wanted the details to be formulated in the trust. That was at and prior to our first meeting. At our first meeting, Dave explained what he was going to draft, how we'd work together, and how we'd finish up. Subsequently, he sent us a draft, with which we iterated a few times to get exactly what we wanted. To us, this back-and-forth was the most important part of working with Dave: our prior attorney basically gave us the version that was her boilerplate, without explanation or modifications, as is. David took our considerable edits to his draft with understanding and no push-back, except to make them legally drafted. We really appreciated this. We finished our iterations, and David sent us a final draft for review. We met with him at our second and final meeting to sign all the required docs. I was referred to this office by another attorney when I was looking to set up a special needs trust for my son. Within a few days of initiating contact, Mr. Cross got back to me and we set up the initial intake consultation. Mr. Cross asked a lot of questions about my situation and came up with a plan to put together a trust that would fit my needs. From that point on, it was a lot of back and forth until I was satisfied that the language on the trust was exactly what I wanted. Mr. Cross was always patient in explaining to me why certain clauses were inserted in the trust. Sometimes I wanted to change them but he was able to explain why it wouldn't be beneficial to do so. I felt that the ability to work with your attorney to craft the exact trust details you want to include is crucial since everyone's situation is different. Prior to working with Mr. Cross, I had contacted a different law firm and was told that they used a pre-printed trust form and it was not possible to deviate from the standard language already in place other than filling in essential information such as names, list of assets, etc. Working with Mr. Cross made me aware of various scenarios and contingencies that need to be mentioned to protect my family. Just to be clear, not everything was perfect. Mr. Cross is apparently operating a solo law practice so as his workload and the number of clients fluctuate over time, so will his response time to your inquiries. He isn't part of a large law firm with multiple attorneys who can back up each other if one has to take a day off. Overall, I am very happy with the services provided and would highly recommend Mr. Cross and his law office to anyone looking to set up a living trust, in particular a special needs trust. read more
