Part of what takes away from its potential as a real country bar is the inconsistency and kids events, but that's just my opinion. Maybe that's not what they're going for. Run, don't walk to Hattie's BBQ. It is the best BBQ I have had in central Oregon. My friend and I shared the mixed BBQ plate with Mac and cheese and tallow fries. It's hard to pick what I liked best. Loved the brisket but the pulled pork gave it a run for its money. Also, the jalapeño cheddar sausage was delicious. Our server was great. He obviously had tremendous pride in their food. Also, the owner came out and he couldn't have been nicer. Cross-eyed cricket looks like a honkey tonk. There's ample space for groups. read more

A few months back I got into an argument with some younger people about how the new Road House move was sacrilegious, I mean how do you replace Patrick Swazy? One kid spoke up and said "well the movie wasn't made for you, it was made for us" keep this in mind as I finish this review. I went in for a burger and a drink as this was the only place open late on my side of town that wasn't fast food. I was greeted at the door and carded, which was kinda cool, being that I'm several decades past the legal age. This place was hoping, packed to the rim. 1 bartender trying to keep up with drinks, people have an awesome time mingling and a few dancing. A couple of pool tables in the back, a nice patio outside. I walked around, and I haven't felt this old in quite awhile, and it dawned on me, this place wasn't made for me. It was made for me in my 20s and 30s. If you are on the younger side, go here with your friends and have a great time. Word to the dudes, it was a solid 2-1 ratio for girls here. I love the cricket and enjoy getting to line and swing dance with my friends but I have had three occurrences where I've fallen on the dance floor whether that be due to dust collecting on the concrete, a lack of care for spilled drinks on the dance floor and the latest was a low hanging sheet from the newly installed stage. I don't think the stage is necessary and I believe a hardwood floor would be more beneficial and enjoyed by all the dancers. read more

Well ok, we will have the pork dish on your recommendation - you know \the BBQ pork, sausage, pork belly, ribs and pulled pork....then after the order was placed "Oh, sorry, we are out of the sausage," then also after the order was place "sorry, we are out of the bbq pork" Well OK maybe we will change to just an order of ribs to which we were told "Well you cant change your order now!" Wait, didn't YOU just change it by eliminating bbq pork and sausage??" So we got a big plate with extra pulled port which is not my favorite. Sorry its the restaurants responsibility to have what they say is on the menu, especially on a friday night when they should know they are going to be busy. read more

Just learned about this place from a co-worker. They just opened a few days ago in the old Mavericks spot. I never visited Mavericks, so not sure exactly how they compare. The place is pretty open in terms of tables right now (prob covid related) and there is a large dance floor in the middle of the space. A full bar runs the length of the wall on the right where you place drink orders. A small food counter rests at the back of the restaurant. Food consists of two genre's of cuisine. One focuses on fried chicken and chicken sandwiches. The other on burgers. Each side has a number of sides that come with a dish or can be added individually. A buddy and I split the spicy chicken sandwich with onion rings and a 3 pc meal with jojos. I was a little skeptical when I saw the fried chicken. As someone who grew up in GA and lived in TX before moving to Bend years ago, the fried chicken did not look like the typical "Southern" fried chicken I'm accustomed to. The batter/coating is definitely a little different and was darker than I was expecting. Fortunately, my fears went away as soon as I took a bite. The chicken was super juicy, seasoned really well, and the coating was not over cooked. It's definitely well done, but had a nice texture and didn't taste burnt. I'm not sure if this will be/is the norm, but I was pleasantly surprised to find the chicken sandwich featured a single chicken fillet, instead of chicken fingers as noted on the menu. The breading on the sandwich was not nearly as dark as on the bone-in chicken, but was still really crunchy. The slaw on the sandwich was a touch sweet, but would play well against the spiciness of the sandwich. My only complaint was I couldn't find the spice! It had a great flavor, but would have loved more spice (I like to tear up a little ha). Jojos and onion rings were kinda average, but cooked really well and were served in generous portions. The only other small complaint is the ordering method is a little cumbersome with separate places to order drinks and food. This system makes perfect sense for a crown later in the evening where I imagine most patrons will be primarily drinking and dancing, ordering food more sporadically. Not a huge deal, but if I could just order a water or non-alc drink at the food counter during lunch, that'd be cool. Overall, the place is really clean, staff was great, and food was definitely good enough to warrant a return visit. Those burgers looked damn good too! Can't wait to try one. read more

I and several friends bought tickets to see "Precious Byrd" May 3, last night. What a disaster. We got there over an hour early to get tables and seating, we got neither, instead we had to beg for 2 chairs and ending up getting 2 more ourselves. Show was supposed to start at 8pm, main act didn't start until 9:30. The warm up guy went on and on for over an hour. We ended up leaving half way through Precious Byrd. Lesson learned, never go back to the Cricket, ever and never go to a bar to listen to your favorite bands. Money and time wasted. read more

I hadn't been to the cross eyed cricket since they remodeled. I decided to go line dancing and get a bite to eat. I got a hamburger that was out of this world. The service was really nice. The dance floor was very small probably fit 20 to 30 people. There were lots of kids. I didn't realize that they could stay until 9 o'clock my opinion they should have their own night and let us adults , have our time on the floor I love down syndrome kids I once was a school nurse, but they just kind of jumped around. Great little spot. Family friendly (before 8 PM). The outdoor area was great to hang out with little kids -- they had corn hole. And the food was great. We got fried chicken, jojos and a burger. Staff were friendly as well. They created a welcoming environment/ relaxed atmosphere. Definitely worth the visit. I've been here a bunch a times and it's fun to people watch. The bar..... there is one really rude bartender. I don't know if she is always having a bad day or hates her job. Then there are some really nice ones too. I had 3 different bartenders charge me different prices. One 17.00 next 19.50 and third 15.50. The last one was the best one out of the three. All the same drink. Songs could be better. The dancing is fun to watch. read more

Great food and drinks. My kids had plenty to do while we sat and enjoyed a good meal. Kayla was our server/bartender and took great care of us. She also made us a fresh juiced margarita that was better than any Mexican restaurant in town. Unfortunately it was impossible to eat the grilled chicken sandwich. The amount of sauce caused the bun to completely disintegrate while some kind of sauce like thousand Island poured out ;the coleslaw swimming in it oozed out and the chicken to slid out as well. The bun disintegrated so even with a fork and knife you could not put this back together It is as if they had a bottle full of the stuff and it spilled out and instead of tossing it in the trash and starting again they decided to attempt to put the oozing mess inside what may have been a paper pocket before it too was saturated and could not even keep the thing from succumbing to a horrid soup and put it in a box and send it out. There had to be a spill before what should have been a sandwich, exited a kitchen because there is no chef, cook or food prep /server in the world that would do this on purpose The chicken smelled horrible so perhaps if it was purposely soaking in thousand island was to hide the fact that the chicken was bad?
