We sat in the bar drying out after a long walk, drinking real ales in our slippers - perfect! The food is good - not gastro pub levels, but reasonable quality and a great price. The pies and puddings are just what you need after a day spent walking amongst the Stiperstones hills. It's in beautiful surroundings, with the Devil's Chair nearby, a prehistoric stone circle, lots of puffball mushrooms and plenty of unspoilt countryside.

I had a Sunday lunch, the beef was rare and thickly sliced but the roast potatoes were disappointing as the looked as if they had been in a fryer rather than an oven and the gravy was not up to much either, but the local paper gave the other meals and the pub in general a rave review last weekend. The staff are friendly, they will aslo collect you from a bus if necessary and you can also stay here. They have real ale, Shropshire Lass was excellent according to my husband and two drinks two Sunday roasts and a coffe was !3.90. The views are to die for, so give this little known area a try.

Expect to wait for a table on a Sunday as it is really very good. We recently had a family birthday meal there and they served 15 of us swiftly and without fuss. Super helpful waitress too. This is busy pub with a kids outdoor play area so expect lots of hyperactive children full of Froot Shoots racing about. Usually have a few cask ales on as well as several different draft lagers. Decent range of wines at ok prices. Not as good as the Poachers just up the bypass at Chirk for food quality, but fine for a quick meal with the family.

Very hospitable staff, efficient and friendly service. The food was of excellent quality considering the price. The place seemed to be filled with happy locals, probably a bunch who were tired of seeing american tourists like me taking up space in their favorite pub. I would highly recommend paying a visit for the pub quiz (every Monday at 8.30) as it's a lot of fun and great value for money at only £1 a head! Plus the pub is kind enough to provide pizza and chips for each table during the interval. Now that's what I call a thoroughly enjoyable evening.
