Went on a Sunday morning for breakfast before we left town. This place was amazing. Ordered the granny scramble, and my boyfriend ordered the special scramble. The serving was huge. It took up the whole plate along with slices of toast. It was absolutely delicious and the service was fast and efficient. Typical diner inside and they don't rush you out the door. I come here now and then for breakfast. It is crowded. The layout of the tables has been like this for 50 years. If you like pancakes, it's the place to go. Their cornmeal pancakes are worth the trip. Prices are on the high side but I find this to be true in many breakfast places. They serve lunch as well but I cannot review lunch because I have not eaten lunch here for some time. I had good service. Coffee was refilled without begging for a second cup. They will run out of their specials so it is best to get there before 9am. read more

We've had some great waitresses but most of the time are waitresses are too busy socializing in the morning to ever come back and see if we need anything. This diner is a step back in time with it's retro decor including a black and white checkered floor. It was pretty busy so we grabbed a couple of seats at the breakfast bar. It took a couple of minutes for someone to come over, but once they made initial contact the service was great. I ordered Kathleen's omelette and I have to say the portion was huge (too much for me to eat). It came with home fries and toast. All in all, the omelette was delicious, but I did find the home fries a tad too greasy for my taste. Otherwise our server was fantastic. Cross Keys Diner is a hidden gem. We eat out a lot. Seriously, a lot. Cross Keys Diner is one of my favorite places and my wife's absolute favorite restaurant. Consistently delicious with first class friendly service! We are always warmly greeted at the door. The daily specials are always amazing and unique, you will not find a better omelet anywhere else. We don't live close to Cross Keys Dinner, but will always find the time to drive over for breakfast. The drive is worth the breakfast! This little spot is the best! It's not fancy but the food is outta this world. Creative specials using in season and local ingredients are featured daily. Today I had an excellent omelette with smoked Gouda, basil, leeks, shallots and shiitakes. The hubby loves the classic eggs Benedict and says it may be the best he's ever had! I am a general aviation pilot and fly out of Doylestown. This is a great spot to have breakfast after a nice morning flight. The people here are very nice and welcoming and the food is always tops. I am a pretty simple guy, but what I order always comes out prepared well. The rest rooms are clean (always my indicator on how hey keep their kitchen). My GF ordered a vegetable omelette and it was very big and full of veggies. She loved it. My pancakes were fluffy and delicious. I got plain but they have a few different kinds. Today was the first time I ever had scrapple and I have to say it was damn good. Not great for my waist line but it's a special day so we'll take it . They are true omelette art.. is that a thing? I think you'll agree when you try one. They have amazing lunch specials too.. the sandwiches are incredible. Honestly, everything on the menu is! You really can't go wrong. It's not your average diner food. It's far more creative.. The ingredients are better quality and so very fresh. Only issue is noise level - even if half full if you have a rowdy bunch or a loud talker it reverberate through the whole place and you find yourself shouting. This is the worst service. They tell you 20 min. wait, it's 45 min. wait. After you sit down you wait another 30 minutes to order. Breakfast took almost 2 hours, the food was not good. The hollandaise sauce is a cream sauce, not hollandaise. The omelet was horrible. The waitresses are rude and busy talking to their friends so you have to get up yourself to get condiments. Stopped in on a Monday at 9:30am and the diner was packed! So we knew it was going to be a great place! Counter seating, as well as diner table & chairs. Holy Fkin Homefries - I have found, hands down, the breakfast place of my dreams. As the 2 of you that read my reviews know, I am a FAN of breakfast, but have never found any place (other than my kitchen) that makes my fork stand up and sing. Well, yesterday I went to Cross Keys Diner. Second time there. First time was good, but I ordered off the menu. Yesterday, there were so many specials that screamed 'fabulous' - and I couldn't decide between them all - so I picked 2. Eggs Estrada - scrambled eggs with andouille sausage, cheddar cheese, bacon, scallions, corn, tomatoes, with a side of homemade black beans and blue corn chips. Also - comes with homefries and toast. Seriously? This was the best breakfast food I've ever had. I wanted to finish it, but I couldn't. I took it home and ate it for dinner and it was still fantastic the second time around. I also had the sweet potato pecan pancakes. Nice. I wasn't overwhelmed w/ pecan - but these were subtly spicy and a nice compliment to the estrada. I was torn between those and the oatmeal blueberry pancakes - but I'll save those for (hopefully) later. I say hopefully because these items were the "Specials" of the day - which are located on the blackboard - so make sure you take a look at the board when you arrive or ask your waitress. Actually, if you don't see anything you like on the special board - ask you waitress anyway. I know the first time we went, I didn't see anything that got me really excited. Then I ordered and a waitress went up to the blackboard and wrote "Corn Cakes" - ARGHHH! I would have so ordered that! I have to say though, the first time there, I ordered eggs/bacon/cinnamon raisin french toast and it was ALL fantastic. The bacon (unlike other diners) wasn't so thin I could see through it. The eggs were buttery. And the homefries were tasty. The cinnamon raisin french toast, while it didn't appear thick and hearty, it was the perfect combination of sweet, spicy, and even though John doesn't like raisins, he loved this dish anyway! The diner itself is sunny and warm and welcoming. It feels more like a cafe and less like a diner. The staff is friendly but not intrusive. Um, yeah, and when the waitress, Charlotte, (er, server, sorry) tells you that on her day off, she always wants to eat breakfast at the place she works, you KNOW the food is good! Also - they shop for their produce every morning and when it's gone, it's gone. When they say the food is fresh (and local), it is. And you can taste this is the food! I have been searching forever for the best breakfast place EVER and it is here, the Cross Keys Diner, where I will rest my weary coffee cup. read more

They wait staff is generally friendly and pleasant, and despite the droves of people that are often there waiting for a seat on a weekend morning, they keep things moving quickly and efficiently. Their regular menu items are good, but if you find something to your liking on their list of specials, I would certainly recommend going with one of them. The specials are always delicious and full of unique flavor combinations. The last time we visited Cross Keys my husband got the Lavender Blueberry Pancakes and I had a breakfast sandwich on a croissant that had frizzled onions, eggs, cheese, and portabello mushrooms and maybe a few other things that I can't remember, because it was so mind-blowingly flavorful and good. Overpriced, no room to move, bad service and the food is horrible. I was shocked at the difference between this place and the other diner in town(where they are actually friendly). We sat down to Cream chipped beef over a waffle. I asked for the waffle well done and it came out soggy. The scrambled eggs my son had were runny and the kids would not eat them(and my kids love eggs). Overall, not thrilled. We went twice to see if the first time was only "a bad day"... not so.. My SO and I took a drive here after some disappointing meals in Peddler's Village, and we were both delighted in our choices: - she ordered the breakfast combo: (2) pancakes or French toast, (2) eggs, and a meat of your choice (she opted for hash browns instead though) - I opted for their holiday special, the chicken salad sandwich with Brie cheese, apple slices, craisins and walnuts on Pumpernickel with French fries On the way to this diner, we passed many farms, and I wonder if they source their ingredients locally? Because the food was perfection. It was simple but well-made food; the scrambled eggs were creamy but had a pleasant toothiness, and the pancakes were buttery and light. My sandwich was hearty but refreshing, and no component overpowered the other. The French fries, though... I wish we had ordered more of them. I feel like they were the kind of fries you just can't find anymore - dry and crispy exteriors with fluffy potato in the middle. Truly, the epitome of perfect French fries. I am of Irish origin, so it is my Celtic obligation to know a good potato. Cross Keys serves up a good plate of breakfast potatoes. They would make any Emerald Isle inhabitant proud. Perfectly cooked; soft but crunchy on the outside-just the way you want that first bite plate of piping hot potatoes to feel in your mouth.
