I'm not a religious person, but my dutch religious ancestry drew me in for a look. What I learned was about settlers' grit and determination, silly early rivalries amidst the struggle for our nation's survival, eye-popping beauty, and all unfolding into today's dedication to service, tolerance, and community. We are visiting from another state and it was was quite refreshing to see a priest tell a personal story relevant to current times and connect it to the scripture reading. He spoke to us not above our heads and told us to focus on our own personal sin vs the outwardly stresses in our lives. Our perspective will change when our desire is to reveal and correct our own personal sins. The church is quite beautiful ..really a small cathedral in this lovely town.
