A…read morefriend of mine knew that I enjoy hot yoga and suggested I try HOTWORX -- I am SO GLAD that I took his advice. For those that don't know, HOTWORX is a virtually instructed exercise completed inside of a sauna, using infrared heat absorption to accelerate detoxification. You're literally inside of your own personal sauna with a TV and virtual instructors completing your workout. There are several options to choose from, including: hot yoga, hot pilates, hot cycling, hot barre, etc. I chose the hot HIIT workout which lasted 30 minutes and it was one of the best workouts I have done in a long time -- the heat really helps increase your flexibility/range of motion. Just make sure to take it slow if you're not used to the heat (I'm talking 125 degrees) and that you drink a LOT of water before, during, and after the workout. From the minute I called to make a reservation, the staff was SO helpful and friendly. They gave me a quick tour of the facility and made sure I was comfortable using the bands and the equipment inside the sauna -- one of the best experiences from gym staff I have ever had. I will absolutely be coming back to HOTWORX every time I am in Owensboro. I have been to many gyms in my years and this is absolutely the best place. There is something to…read moreaccommodate every situation you may have need of, from equipment to aerobics to swimming to even Tai Chi classes. There are also towels and wet wipes in the equipment area to use. There are coaches that will help assess you and answer questions in the gym. The locker room has a whirlpool, steam room, showers and heated towels; blow dryers. There is something for every need you could think of here and the staff is super friendly. You can even purchase water and protein drinks, or healthy snacks in their mini cafeteria! I would give ten stars if that was an option.

So they have a cardio room, a weight room, an ab room, locker rooms etc. The hours here are a little shorter than the other YMCA but I think it is still 5:30am - 9pm during the week which is perfect for before or after work. Also I was in last night at about 6pm and there was no crowd at all. Their weight room was awesome. I am used to going to the other YMCA but I think the Athenian YMCA is the place for me. Tons of machines and free weights let you tune your work outs to whatever it is you want to do. I highly recommend this place for a solid workout.

I just mainly lift and do cardio here. I usually travel to Owensboro for business but when I come this is the gym I go to. Perfect to get a good lift in and do a little cardio. The equipment is older but is still in good condition (you cant really destroy free weights). Also they have santizer and paper towels all over if you want to clean up before or after you use your equipment although the place seems pretty clean. Good amount of space to spread out and do your own exercises so you aren't on top of the other people in the gym. This place keeps me sane after a long work day and has the right equipment to keep me in shape. Big Tip: If you are staying at the Hampton or the Fairfield in, they give you free passes at the desk. Just ask!

The FREE services that come with the program is worth their rate alone. They offer free meal planning, free grocery store tours, free monthly analysises, and the have a pretty cool free newsletter. I would recommend Edge Body to anyone that wants to be challenged with their workouts in a very motivating and supportive atmosphere. After our six months were over, my mom noticed her card was still being charged, despite us finishing our contract. Once my mom realized, she contacted Chris, and he claimed we never cancelled -- the contract was up though. Anyways, long story short, she was out $600 dollars, with no reimbursement. I never reviewed this before, since we thought it was just a one time thing, and we were trying to give them the benefit of the doubt for their mistake. However, it has been brought to my attention that they are continuing to do this to other people. It's so disappointing. It's a wonderful program, but the dishonest management makes it not worth it.
