We wore rain boots to keep our feet from getting muddy/sandy. Wear a hat, apply sunscreen and / or bug spray & pick until your heart is content. Once you get back from the field, you get your berries weighed, you pay & you're all set. They have bathrooms in the parking area, plenty of picnic tables, & accept credit cards for payment.

Boley Farm on 151st Street in Orland Park is now run by a new person who bought out the old operators, but he just seems to be getting up to speed and the selection wasn't as broad ... hence the search for a new stand ... and I think we found it in Just Picked. We stopped in at Just Picked on 171st Street in Tinley Park on a weekday and they had a very nice selection. We have driven by this place dozens of times over the years but never stopped in ... glad we did this time. While the selection looks relatively small as you drive by, once you stop in and look around you'll be more impressed with the variety and quality. This is an everyday kind of farm stand during the Summer and Fall, and the people running it were very nice. The owner (Tom) grows much of what is sold on his farm just outside Kankakee ... thus you get fresh, local-grown FFV everyday where the stock is refreshed daily. All the FFV ... and oftentimes flowers ... are presented outside under an awning ... the barn is for his work equipment and other stock. If you are in the market for a farm stand, you have to give this place a try.

We came at 4 pm on a Tuesday - literally nobody else on the farm, had it completely to ourselves! We got our buckets from her and got sent off to pick blueberries! Lots of bushes, beautiful farm, cool chickens (a lot of them, off to the side of the field), cute cat, bee hives off to the side, old machinery - honestly just a gorgeous setting. The farm stand is in a pair of buildings at this time and they have enough room to expand when more vegetables are harvested. We were not here earlier in the year when the greenhouse does business. There is also a U-Pick section, but we did not try that. We thought it funny when we came to the unshucked corn that there were a few signs warning us to not peel back the husk to look at the corn. We followed the rules and trusted in the product, and we were pleasantly surprised. When we cooked it up later, the corn was perfect and tasty. So even though we did not have the fun of peeling the husks, the corn was VG. We will be back.

Perhaps they are just over-worked or tired. At least that's how I justified their off-handed treatment of me, and my continued patronage over the years. So I put up with a fleeting moment of mistreatment. But today, that same old bad attitude appeared after I asked a simple question during my visit, that could've been answered more directly & easily. I questioned myself why do I even bother, especially when their produce isn't superior to other places I can go, to get farm fresh produce. There are more farmer's markets around, such as McDonald's Farm at Knoch Knolls Park in Naperville. Maybe my visits were wrapped in (wannabe) nostalgia, or due to convenience of location. Whatever, today I hit the top of my tolerance for their rude-ish treatment. This decision should have been made after an earlier visit this summer when a cashier looked at me crazy because I did not leave an electronically-produced request for a tip. For what?? Standing there just doing your job ringing up an order??? And lastly, their produce isn't the tastiest, and is really overpriced in comparison to other places around. I guess I kind of felt sorry & wanted to support the place. But no more. I am finally done. Fed up and moving on. Mayneland Farm is no longer an option for me.
