After reading the raving reviews maybe we just came on a bad day? We ordered a bagel sandwich, a bagel with jam and cream cheese, an almond croissant and a chai latte. The almond croissant was not a properly made croissant very dense and no layers at all - the bagel sandwich seemed to have microwaveable eggs and honestly ate 1/4th of it because the aioli was too potent with the rosemary (but I'm sure others love it) and no jam was served with our second bagel. Been craving for a (good) sandwich for quite sometime. What a discovery!..by luck! Accompanied my sis to a Dr's appt in the city (SF). Lunch time came. And there it was across the street. A nondescript nook at the corner of Hyde St and Bush St....CROSTINI and JAVA. Ordered the cold cuts sandwich and the sis got the chicken pesto. Both on a toasted ciabatta bread. The toasted ciabatta was good enough in itself. But with the concocted filling that they put together?...a masterpiece! Traded halves with the sis. The cold cuts sandwich is one of the best sandwich that I've had...ever! A combo of ham, salami, turkey, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato and check this out...the one that binds it all together...pepperoncini sauce! That sauce added a touch of heat and a hint of tanginess to the whole experience. Won't describe the chicken pesto as it was awesome as well. You just have to go to experience the euphoria. Tolkien Location: Nob Hill, San Francisco, CA I admit I love the saga of the Lord of the Rings because of the adventure, good vs. evil, and just wandering around Middle Earth. I was in need of bean and a cool sounding café called Crostini & Java popped up on my Yelp app. It's a place that sounded cool enough... After reading a couple reviews I notice it's been open for almost a year while maintaining a solid 5-Stars rating. That alone deserves attention, but when you consider the competitive nature of the 'hood it must be something special. I decide to wander the three big blocks over. Crostini & Java is located on the corner of Hyde & Bush streets, on a slight hill. As I enter I can't help but notice how charming the place is... I'm immediately greeted by Kirill, no relationship to Kili or Fili, known Hobbits of Middle Earth. Kirill is the owner of Crostini & Java and after a few suggestions from his human form, I decide to independently order the Ham & Cheese Bagel w/ Dijon Sauce. I also order a Matcha Latté. While working on my order some regulars walk in. He greets them by name and continues my order. After a few minutes my order is called. I take a toadstool to sit and begin to enjoy my breakfast while human watch. First bite delicious. First sip delicious. This is a simple breakfast just done right! Ask Kirill he'll tell you how right he is lol, but Hobbits aside, he's very talkative and with his café it's a wonderful addition to the neighborhood! Being in the heart of Nob Hill is convenient for many. I also noticed the café offers lunch specials (maybe next time)and cocktails, and over the weekend a free Sangria or Mimosa Yelp check-in! Oh yes! In the end, I recommend this charming café called Crostini & Java on the hill. You don't have to avoid orcs to get here, just wander in with an open mind for suggestions from Kirill, ahh who btwis a dead ringer for Boromir (Sean Bean)! As always I was looking for a quick bite and nothing is better than a latte and a breakfast sandwich! Walked over here, very small little location on the corner, but was playing some great blues tunes. Had to go with the ultimate breakfast sandwich, such a great mix of flavors and even had a nice maple sauce which added a lil sweetness. It's quite small, but just enough filling to go until later! The latte was already sweetened and was delicious with the oat milk and tea flavors being able to shine through. The avocado and egg toast had a delicious rosemary aioli, with generous helpings of avocado and egg on whole wheat toast, with a nice sprinkle of salt and pepper. The beef was pleasantly cold, and the caramelized onion was coated in a lovely balsamic honey type sauce. The crostini was the perfect depth and width, and I could tell it was freshly toasted. They also made my macchiato the traditional style so I'm very much a fan of this establishment. They have very limited seating, it's about 10 in total in the whole place and it's bar seating. This feels like a nice place to stop midday alone when looking for a pick-me-up. The ambience is quiet and tame, and I felt very productive in there. There are a couple parking garages near by, but public transit is very easy to get to. I'll definitely return to try their other crostinis and maybe their artisan lattes! read more

Everyone who goes here feels entitled to something, people feel they don't have to wait in line or address you like a normal person as everyone is hovering around you while Covid is still happening, shoulder bumping you to get in front of you when their order isn't even ready. Also customers saying rude racial slurs as a result to get you to leave is never a comfortable feeling. They close really early and are too small for indoor studying but the food and coffee drinks are great, the people seem to like working there, and when orders go in it makes a cuckoo clock sound, which makes me laugh every time.
