From the very first phone call with Bill Doherty, to our appointment making arrangements, the multiple phone calls and e-mails with our questions and requests during the planning, to the actual service and burial, everything went amazingly smooth and with the utmost compassion and respect towards my family. My mom was Scottish and we wanted to honor her Scottish heritage. I dropped off several tartan table runners, scarves and various items for decorating the tables, as well as dozens of framed pictures, and a special table for guests to offer a Scottish toast to bid mom farewell. I thought I'd have to do the decorating myself, but was so relieved to see the place beautifully decked out as we arrived early for the family visitation hour. We didn't have to lift a finger, which was so appreciated. They arranged for a bagpiper at my request (he was amazing), arranged the details with our musician, created beautiful brochures and mass cards for the service, set up all the flowers, etc, and did a great job stopping traffic during the procession to All Saints Cemetery. I had so many compliments from family and friends on how classy and beautiful everything was. My family and I cannot thank Bill Doherty, Martha, Rose, and the rest of the wonderful staff enough for their compassion, patience, and overall professionalism. It was very easy speaking with Ryan on how my mother-in-law would be delivered to the funeral home and then prepared for travel to another state. Ryan was very accommodating with preparing for the viewing and presentations of my mother-in law's life. Having not gone through this before, we had a lot of questions and apprehensions. All of our concerns were answered respectfully and delicately. My mother-in law was displayed with beauty and honor. The older gentleman was rude and belligerent. Because my husband passed away at home suddenly, we did not have a doctor to sign the death certificate, this man said to my son and myself that he was taking the BODY anywhere until we had a doctor sign off on my husband. He kept saying to us DO YOU HEAR ME. We were on the phone with Perry Point to get them to sign the DC which take a wait to get anyone there. He said I am leaving, I said you are going to just leave my husband in the bedroom dead, his reply was have someone come and take him to Baltimore (I guess he was talking about the morgue) and he left my son and I with my dead husband. I called Foard's in Rising Sun they came out right away and handle getting the death certificate signed, they were amazing. I wanted the community to hear just how Lee A. Patterson & Son Funeral Home P.A. treated my son and I at the worst time in our lives. Treated us with told disrespect and rude beyond anything I have ever experienced. Please save yourself from their torcher and do not allow them to do this to your family. If they did this to us, they have done it before and will do again. Not only that, we all became highly active family members astonishing other folks from all over the state, then later for an extremely large number who couldn't understand that we worked even harder. I followed my parents by serving the Army for 23 years and working for them for another ten. Every time I arrived from somewhere else, I always stopped in to see my mother and my father. The staff were exceptional. My youngest brother keeps me aware that the Cemetery continues to exist. My goals were simple at the time: One more military grade from my father; Major Irvin Carty vs Lieutenant Colonel (had no desire to become a Colonel) and also to honor my Mother, Pearl Carty who served. We learned as a family, and we shared our experiences as a family. The Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery is a gift for our family.
