We're visiting the area for a Mother's Day getaway, and I was so turned off by my experience today. I have four boys, aged 1-10. I was holding the baby and allowing my other boys to check out and select a "souvenir" from the children's/toy section. We were enjoying the selection so much until the lady from the register came up to say "I'm going to need you guys to settle down and make sure everything goes back where you got it"... I literally thought for a moment she was joking with us. I'm a strict parent; my kids learned from the time they were tiny that if they are disrespectful to people, property, or myself, they'll be immediately taken back to the car and disciplined. I was very confused by this lady's confrontation as they were behaving perfectly fine. I asked her "did we do something?" because I was genuinely confused but she turned around and walked back to her post behind the register. I told my kids we're not buying anything from here today, and everybody filed out immediately. My boys were genuinely confused as well as to why they weren't welcome to shop there. I told them either that lady is having a bad day or she's a grump with disdain for children, but either way we will not give her our money or let her ruin our day. I left shaky and with a pit in my stomach. This review will probably have no impact on the business, as it's a small town and people don't have a lot of options to find souvenirs or antiques elsewhere, but the mama bear in me was really bothered that my kids were snubbed and they'll always remember that when they think back on this family weekend. read more

FYI...the majority of these reviews are for the wrong store. They are reviewing the Garden Valley Market, not The Merc. The Merc does not carry groceries. It is a wonderful vendor based shop. Antiques, gifts, new and vintage clothing, jewelry, local art work, drinks, snacks, taxidermy etc. The Merc is under new ownership and has received multiple improvements including a stellar paint job. Great little gem for any last minute items you may have forgotten while camping in the area. Their produce looked fresh and was reasonably priced. In fact they were having an unbelievable special on blueberries when we visited. If I had room in my cooler I would have absolutely grabbed some to bring back home. They seemed to have good selection of all the basic food staples and drugstore sundries. I also noticed they even have a small liquor section, which I'd guess most wouldn't know is offered unless you were a local (since Idaho only sells liquor in liquor stores). There was also a small floral cooler with some nice arrangements on display. Checkers were friendly. And the store seemed very well kept and clean. I was pleasantly surprised overall. I assumed it would be a barebones store, but nope it covered all the bases and seemed to do so without price gouging. I'm definitely going to keep this one in my back pocket if we are camping nearby again. Places like these allow adding ice cream to your campfire cobbler a reality! read more

If you haven't been to crouch in the past five years you'll be amazed to find the crouch merc has been redone (lines in the parking lot and everything) It's big and has a good selection including local veggies when in season. They also have a great little selection of liquor so you can grab and go with your mixers all in one place. The staff is friendly and helpful.. It may just be me but every time I go in its colder than an ice box though. I was literally shivering yesterday and it was 90 out. Maybe that's a plus I guess. Traveling seniors Spent 2 weeks in the area! At our kids cabin! This store has it all, clean, reasonable prices, And great service! Also the deli, say some more home made wraps, me a very veggie sandwich, her chicken taco! The workers are all very busy and the service is quick! Also lots of good fresh product for a great price, eat in at inside area or outside on a Large patio! We will be back for the eclipse and more homemade salads! read more

I usually don't write reviews, but I'm going to give this place a 1 star due to the fact that the checkout lady (the one with big arms and tattoos all over them) was very unfriendly. When we paid for our groceries and said "thank you", there was no response from this person. A total snub. Not very nice. If you are an outsider coming to this area, please go shopping at a larger chain, maybe in Boise, to stock up on your goods. read more
