Hands down my favorite place in Kalamazoo. Definitely grab a Latte downstairs before you ask for a spot (or while you're waiting for a table when it's busy) because they only have drip upstairs. I've never waited long and there's plenty of art decorating the walls by local artists that kept me distracted. I've never had anything here that disappointed. The portions were quite large and I couldn't finish my sandwich! I got the Davidstown freighter sandwich which has: two fried eggs, prosciutto, goat cheese, sautéed onion, spinach, tomato and red pepper aioli on sourdough bread. It was amazing! Love love love the bread and all the ingredients were nicely balanced. The reuben was also very good. I love how toasty their bread is. The banana bread french toast is very thick. Maybe a little too thick since it doesn't really absorb any egg/milk mixture. Rather than a french toast it tastes more like banana bread topped with nuts and caramel. I ordered a double but a single would have been plenty! I didn't mind taking that second piece home to eat it the next day :9 I came here around 1:30 am and it wasn't too busy. However, as we were leaving after 2 am, a crowd of people started coming in. It's definitely a good spot for late night eats. The only negative thing I could say about this place is, as a person with physical challenges, it is a challenge to climb up to the second story restaurant. However, it is worth it! Additionally, their omelette dishes are massive and top quality, so, if you are like me, and have a hard time leaving a lot of amazing food on your plate, you may very well walk out of their a bit stuffed. Therefore, I recommend either making sure you are hungry before you go or split your plate with a friend. This is always a popular/busy restaurant. We normally have an incredible experience here, but today was slightly less awesome. We came around noon, and fortunately we were seated quickly. Our server was fantastic and the food came super quickly, but the seasoning seemed a little lacking today, especially in my loaded baked potato soup. There also were several pesky fruit flies that annoyed us throughout the meal. All of that said, it was still a good meal, and we will definitely be back. This is the premiere breakfast spot in Kalamazoo, and maybe even Western Michigan. The food is spectacular and the coffee (and coffee shop below) are wonderful. I have very fond memories of coming here for excellent brunch with my lovely fiance and splitting espresso french toast and asparagus eggs Benedict. Good vegetarian menu. My wife had the Tofu Stir Fry and was very impressed. I am not a vegetarian, so I had the Corned Beef Sandwich. It was delicious and worth the drive from our home town. The Crow's Nest has good portions and a wide variety of food including vegetarian. The Crows Nest is an upstairs hole-in-the-wall restaurant with lots of character. The breakfast burrito is absolutely to die for. I don't live in Kalamazoo anymore, but every time I visit I make a point of stopping at Crow's Nest. The sauce that comes on the side with the burrito- a kind of spicy aioli- is also delicious. I wish they sold that sauce in bottles. read more

Went in for breakfast. Dinning room appears clean. Ordered the Milo's special. The potatoes were over seasoned and there was a lot of salt in the omelet. Ordered decaf coffee and it didn't come out until my food did. It wasn't horrible but I won't be in a big rush to return any time soon. Went at 9:00 am on a Friday morning. It's been a year or so since I've been here now that I no longer work downtown but prior to that we were here often. I was surprised to not find a wait and the restaurant only had a few tables occupied. I've always experienced a bustling restaurant and usually a wait for a table especially on a Friday morning when dining here. The host took menus over to a table a few feet away from the host stand but would not let us sit down. He very abruptly said "no" when we asked if we can sit down. We could almost touch the table from where we were standing and the restaurant was nearly empty. We stood around awkwardly for about 10 minutes before we were able to walk the 2 feet to our table finally. Just seemed strange and was handled rudely. This had been one of my favorite places prior and the food was always delicious. Today it was a completely different experience. Potatoes were visibly charred black. Biscuits and gravy had no taste and were hard as rocks. Banana Bread French toast was a soggy messy. Never had refills on our coffee or hot tea. We left completely disappointed and it's unlikely we will return in the near future. read more

We decided to give Crows Nest a try after living here for twenty years. We stepped foot on the property years ago before the indoor smoking ban and so, we have a association with this place and unpleasant environmental conditions. Years since the smoking ban went into effect, and we are back. I've never been upstairs, this is our first experience. The restaurant is easy to find, the parking is ample and obvious, and the staff are friendly. The downstairs is very much a hipster coffeehouse, so not really our scene. The restaurant upstairs is clean and orderly, the skylights in front immensely improve the atmosphere here. The food was exceptional, especially considering the price. I had the pecan French toast and my partner had the grilled cheese. I was blown away by the French toast, bravo! The grilled cheese had only one reservation and that is the crust on the bread used was very unexpected in its hardness. This is a gem in Kalamazoo, but it's popularity, small size, and hipster vibe in the waiting area in the downstairs make it a place we'll have to seek out when it's off-hours and not quite so mobbed. DID NOT EAT THERE. Party of 8, 7 of us were present , 8th person on their way, would not seat us because of their "policy". More than half the restaurant was empty on a Friday morning. They indicated if they seat us, " they cannot guarantee that they would allow the 8th person to join the party ". Also were told we have to split the party into 2-3 tables and they will not combine tables together to put us all on one table. Asked to speak to the manager and was not presented with one, just had 3 different waitresses talk about their "policy". I have been to Crow's Nest about 4 times. So, after 4 times of trying the food out, I think it is now time to review it. Also, I didn't have yelp the other 3 times so I can now. This last time I went, I had the Nest Scramble. It has asparagus, mushrooms, tomatoes, eggs. It is served vegetarian (no meat) but I added vegetarian sausage. It is served with potatoes and toast. They have several different types of bread and I LOVE that. Normally, I get the lemon poppyseed toast, but we decided to get a half order of French toast to spilt so I didn't want to have anything sweet but that. The portions are HUGE. The food is always good, and the service is always amazing. The host is kind and although the wait is also long (because people love this place), the host doesn't make you feel like you are waiting 30 to 40 minutes. Plus, you can go downstairs to Fourth Coast and enjoy a cup of coffee and the host will come down and let you know you are ready. Plus (another added bonus, if I haven't sold you yet), you can get a cup of coffee downstairs and they will fill you up at your table upstairs for no added fee. Same company and same coffee. Anyways, the food is amazing. The potatoes do have a spice to them. I love them but I wanted to give a heads up. Atmosphere: Although seats are limited due to space and tables seem small. It is cozy. The bathrooms are in a little weird location. You have to walk through the kitchen to go. I always feel weird, but the staff is like "it's okay". Having the coffee shop downstairs is a nice bonus. It's a cool place to hang out even if you didn't go upstairs to eat. Food: Amazing! Cost: Nest Scramble is $8.50 Half Order of French Toast is either $4 or $6 (Depending on if it is a special or on the menu as Solo or Short.) Most of the things on the menu are between $7 and $9. This is the type of place you bring hungry athletes! Food tends to be "heavy" but taste is good. Just don't care for the very tight seating. Especially right after we experienced a pandemic. Very long wait to get seated. They don't let you call ahead, but there's nowhere to wait on the second floor where the restaurant is so I guess people regularly wait an hour+ in their car?
