It's just of Main Street, through an archway, into a courtyard with other restaurants. We had to eat but we had no plan and as you'll know if ya haven't a plan ya can't fail. As we walked along the street just up from the crooked house we were approached by a young chap waving a menu and offering a Monday night special of a pizza at about £4. I was more concerned that they had some of the glorious stout I was discovering in different places. Good porter has been a revelation for me in this first ever visit to Poland. He said they had one type and it was potent. around 8 proof. This was the clincher as neither of us are big pizza fans. So he escorted us into the restaurant and got us seated. The young lady serving was very attentive to us the whole time and spoke great English. We could choose from six different pizzas at this price. We ordered one each, I like fish so I had tuna, olives, my wife opted for ham & pineapple. I had a fantastic stout and my wife had a lager. The pizzas really were darn tasty, fresh, hot and served on hot plates that felt they weighed two kilos apiece. Actually on reflection we should have ordered only one between two as neither of us could manage a half each. We are that generation who hate wasting food. We began ordering sitting at an outside table. It was warm, dark and all rather pleasant but a rain shower just as our pizzas were delivered made us go inside. It was pretty big inside, really bright, clean and mostly white and red. As I said the walls were adorned with 1950's America memorabilia - sadly an era gone never to be seen again.

Asked the waitress what she recommended and she first said octopus... Never had octopus and willing to try it but it's my second night in this country and I wanted a bit more comfort food! I asked her for her 2nd choice, hoping she'd say the pulled pork burger! She said Chicken in Mango and my heart sank a bit because I knew You can only reject so many offers before the waitress realises you don't actually want her true recommendation , lol!! So I carefully asked, 'what's the most popular?' I thought I was clever as everyone orders a burger but she said chicken in mango again?!!!!!! So I gave in and ordered the mango.... It was delicious! Lovely chicken in a tasty mango sauce with pineapples, grapes, turnip (I think) served in a small paella-like pan with a small Side of garlic bread. Ordered extra bread as the sauce to bread ratio was a bit imbalanced. It was so nice and much lighter than a burger that it really was the perfect choice for tonight! Staff were really friendly, good attitude to dogs so there were friendly animals about too. I was a bit awkward entering and might have come across as a bit brash or impolite and they were still very nice to me! It's primarily a rum bar with over 50 kinds of rum! Didn't actually get any rum while I was here...probably because of my awkwardness asking for tap water but I'll definitely come back while in gdansk to try some! Anyway I'll free up th corner of the bar now as the nightlife is really picking up now at 21.50 and there is only so much patience even great service people have! Now to a waffle stand!

It's our first visit to Poland and there's no downsides of note…read more I say so as we found only a few folk rude, surprisingly in a kebab joint and a cafe in Sopot - the so called hospitality industry - but that's likely cultural as often we are polite through gritted teeth ourselves, so hypocrisy recognised Sopot is a real gem of a place and a good base to tour this part of Poland. We visited Gdańsk and Gdynia too. The train station is under 10 minutes uphill walk from Sedan. We chose Sopot as it's a sea side place and it was the end of the summer season. The Sedan hotel is quaint. It is also genuinely charming. Charming also describes all the staff we met on our 7 nights here. It wasn't a long enough stay really. You do need a level of physical fitness for this hotel as there are steps into it, there isn't a lift and staircase is quite steep. We were fortunate on arrival that the chap who checked us in, very quickly, also took our cases to the 1st floor also very quickly. Breakfast food here is first class, especially as I'm a fish lover. There's herrings & mackerel on offer daily with cress and tangy pickles. My wife isn't a lover of such briny, vinegary things but there's lots for her to enjoy including scrambled eggs, ham, cheeses, jams, yoghurts, cakes and pancakes. They bake their own breads too but their white loaf wasn't to our taste as it's dry, open textured and coarse but that's personal taste. We observed plenty of guests eating copious amounts of it with butter so We're in the minority here - story of our lives too. The breakfast coffee machine has an umbilical milk tube feeding into it for cappuccino, it also offers espresso and black coffee as it wheezes, grinds and then eventually splutters out good coffee; if it were a human the sounds it makes at work would easily burn off hundreds of calories. It kept breaking down and it was retired on our second last day. Our 1st floor room had two cosy single beds. It was a small room with a separate shower room with a shower that's even smaller than on Norwegian cruise ships. If you are thin you should be ok. I'm not. Still we managed just fine but there is a caution here as the temperature on the shower is finely set - a slight twist of the handle either way and it's quickly scalding or cold. So beware you don't accidentally knock against it; it's not a mistake you are likely to make twice. The prevailing noise outside our room was seagulls crying with the odd crow caw. There's in-room coffee & tea but no milk and tv and air con we didn't use. The hotel offers 2 course lunches at 35 pz a person. We did try to get lunch but the day we did they only had chicken as they were waiting on a delivery so that was that. The hotel also houses a Thai massage parlour (see photo) with a separate entrance so it was our first port of call day 1 but they don't offer traditional Thai massages. We found this strange so we went elsewhere 5 minutes walk away. So we really enjoyed a great stay and it's a 5 star place all the way.
