Wine flights are available by region and by varietal. Or you can create your own flights. I enjoyed a flight of pre-selected pinot noirs while my husband ordered a flight of whites from around the world. The flights are arranged in ascending order leading up to the most full-bodied wine. The menus include tasting notes, but we were deep in conversation and neglected them. All wines sold in flights are also available by the glass or bottle. We ordered the mushroom gruyere flatbread, a smoked salmon crostini (one of 5 smoked salmon choices), and my favorite, a concoction of fried quail egg, a bite sized piece of cured beef, and soft tangy cheese stacked on a piece of fresh baked crusty baguette. Heaven, especially paired with the two Oregon pinots in my flight. The flatbread was topped with micro greens and tasted more complex than it looked. My husband reported the smoked salmon went amazingly well with his lightest Riesling. The atmosphere is that of a cozy den decorated with a bit of speakeasy flair. Lamps, not overhead lighting. Upholstered furniture, area rugs, and cocktail tables. Chairs and sofas are arranged for conversation, perfect for small groups of 4-5. There are a few high 2-top tables for duos, and a long bar facing a wall of wine selections. Crush is that place where you go for warm, convivial conversations with people you are closest to--or people you want to be closer to. I'm told it's getting so popular that it's pretty crowded on weekends, but on a Wednesday night in early December (our ninth wedding anniversary), most of the seating was full except for the bar. We moved to Winchester two years ago after living in and enjoying the amazing restaurant scene in Baltimore for many years. I have to say I've never been to a restaurant (in the last twenty years) where I was treated so rudely. Crush wine bar is what appears on the surface to be a trendy, pretentious, high-class establishment. However, I think in the case of Crush Wine Bar, the Emperor has no clothes! I met friends for drinks and was lectured upon entering for having no reservation - not Hello or Welcome . . ., just "Do you have a reservation?," followed by a diatribe of how inconvenient is for them when people just "show up." After being seated on a dirty-looking, stained settee, I was handed a menu (via i-pad with dirty fingerprint smears all over it) and tried to find a glass of wine that was under $15. When my $15 glass of wine arrived, it filled not quite one-third of a normal-sized glass. I guessed it must have cost me about $7.50 per once. Shortly after my friends arrived and our "tapas plates" (code in this case for appetizers double the price, with half the volume) arrived, we were made to pick up our food, glasses, utensils, etc. and move to another seating group. Granted we needed another chair to stay where we were, but instead of bringing a chair, we were made (none too nicely) to move ourselves to a new location. The move was followed by more ad-nauseum lecturing about the inconvenience caused when patrons just "show up." By the time we finished our wine and food the restaurant was still as empty as it had been when we arrived - honestly, empty. I guessed the reservation-making patrons must have been invisible. As we left, the owner and his wife (who were the source of our rude treatment from the start), seemed surprised we weren't staying for second rounds. We quite frankly were too numb to say much of anything except, let's regroup at the restaurant around the corner (where, by-the-way, we had great service, and excellent food and drinks). We were excited to have a wine bar open with a nice selection of wine by the glass. The wine selection was well selected with French, Spanish, American, and Italian choices. The wine pours were a little on the small size. We did not try the flights. The decor was cozy and comfortable. The wait staff was friendly but probably need more knowledge about the wines. The most strange thing was that they required a credit card to open a tab when you ordered; this is NOT a club packed with people- it is a small intimate wine bar... trust will go a long way! I went with a party of 6 people at 8:30 and were told that since we did not have reservations we could not be seated. There were only a few patrons in the bar with plenty of room to accommodate us. The hostess was very condescending when telling us that we couldn't get a table. That was my first experience going to Crush and I don't think that I'll be going back. I am not from Winchester but came here for a private party for my best friend and her fiancé. Tracy and the rest of the staff were incredible! The list of wines can be overwhelming at first - so many choices! Tracy helped us choose a great wine that suited all of us. I got the Andeluna Malbec. Definitely recommend trying it regularly first and then getting it smoked. For food, we got the Marinated Artichoke Hearts plate and the Sautéed Mushroom plate and both were very good although I personally liked the mushrooms more. Really enjoyed Crush Wine Bar. Our server (maybe the owner?) was incredibly knowledgeable about the wines and when I told him I like dryer Rose, he gave me the opportunity to try both before giving me a glass. The food was also really good, but Lee in mind that they're appetizers. You can absolutely get full on it and it was all really good, but you're gonna have a LOT of bread if you're trying to have dinner there. Favorites includes the warmed brie and the shrimp... yum! The creme brulee wasn't great, but I think it might have been a bad batch. I didn't want to complain when they had been so great, but next time I'd probably go with the truffles! read more

We very much enjoyed the duck confit & froie gras, scallops, escargot & mushrooms and charcuterie board. We went out with another couple and shared the food between the four of us. My girlfriend and I have been coming to Crush since they opened their doors. It is an amazing escape from the world where you can listen to jazzy tunes as you eat amazing food, drink the largest selection of wines from all over the world as well as local areas while enjoying impeccable service. We look forward to each and every visit like it was a long lost relative. We've noticed some recent reviews who had what they considered a less than pleasant time at Crush. My girlfriend and I were there that same night, having arrived before this group and leaving after they did. We don't usually encounter rude customers at Crush because most of us truly enjoy the ambiance, food, excellent service and that little escape from reality that Crush affords. It was apparent to us that this group didn't appreciate the effort and requirements of running such an amazing and unique establishment. This was our first of what will be many visits. The atmosphere is quiet and relaxing. They have 70+ wines available by the glass or bottle. You can build your own wine flight or go with the superb recommendations made by Tom, their GM and sommelier. You walk in to a softly lit parlor-like setting with a mishmash of lounge chairs, coffee tables, loveseats and lamps as if you are hanging out in someone's artfully decorated sitting room. Open seating that resembles a coffee house and iPad menus that make sorting through their EXTENSIVE wine selection a lot easier. Sizable and tasty tapas plates that are carefully crafted. The atmosphere is cozy and comfy with a living room/bar combo decor. The food is excellent- try the elk sausage flatbread with goat cheese! Everything about this place is fantastic! The decor is very tasteful and welcoming. The atmosphere is intimate and relaxed, with subdued jazz playing in the background. They have a pretty extensive list of quality wines. The menu is an array of items. If you are looking for chicken wings and wraps, this isn't the place for you. What they have is very different and very good! A must try is the sweet tomato and onion jam over goat cheese on a baguette. So good and filling.
