    My sons foot
    Chelsea P.

As a local Asbury Park family, we were excited to finally try Crust & Crumble for pizza this past Friday after a beach bike ride with our two young children. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing and even unsafe. When we first walked in, my toddler picked up a teddy bear from the window display that was within her reach. Before I could return it, the woman behind the counter sharply told us to put it back. If décor is placed at child level, a kinder approach would go a long way. The bigger issue came when I asked for a simple cup of water for my kids. Despite spending nearly $50 on pizza, I was told they don't offer water and directed to buy bottled water. After back and forth (and my son in tears), someone reluctantly filled his bottle, but only with a rude attitude that made me feel like I was asking for something out of line. To make matters worse, while I was speaking with the staff, my son leaned on a plastic mobile fence-like partition on wheels, which tipped over and injured his foot. His foot swelled immediately, and not once did anyone on staff check if he was okay. Later, my husband asked for a pizza box and again was met with attitude instead of help. I don't consider my family high maintenance, nor were any of my requests egregious. I've never once encountered such attitude from a local business -- especially in a family-friendly town like Asbury Park. The pizza itself was fine, but the service, lack of hospitality, and unsafe setup in the restaurant made this an awful experience for our family. Pizza should be a family-friendly outing -- Crust & Crumble made it anything but. We will not be returning.

I tried the Mexellent (chipotle sauce + brisket) and loved it! Very interesting and unique specialty selections, and a lot of folks recommended their pizzas. I'll be back to try more.

I loved it here! The staff was so friendly and kind. The atmosphere was so cool. The way the tables are decorated. The detail on chairs. Everything was so cool. They had outdoor and indoor seating. Very extensive vegan menu. And the food was delicious. Literally no complaints. I would eat here every single day if I could lol also, this is somewhere where I could bring my toddlers and I don't think it would be a problem with them being toddlers. (Parents, you know what I mean) All jokes aside, one of the best vegan spots in New Jersey. Top 5.

Vegan options are A+++!! If you feel like you're missing out on that greasy unhealthy mouth watering fried fast food as a vegan- this is your spot!!! The spot is so cute it has such a cool vibe to it and its ambiance was so unique! Little area for movie watching and like a cool neon astro galaxy vibe- never seen anything like it! The girl at the front was super nice and service was awesome. We ordered something not on the menu, but it definitely should be - VEGAN PENNE VODKA PIZZA!!!!! Are you KIDDING?! loved it so much. Tried the fried ravioli and jalapeño poppers as well, poppers were so spicy for me but my bf loved. Definitely returning to try everything else and will update when i do!!!

ASBURY PARK: Crust & Crumble Pizzeria & Bakery is a fun restaurant right across from Wesley Lake and leashed-dogs are allowed to eat at the outdoor patio! The menu is Italian-style, but with a fun twist! They have a traditional menu and a separate menu with a nice selection of vegan options. We couldn't resist indulging in a fat sandwich and fries! It was so delicious! You can order inside, so have somebody watch the pup outside, and then the friendly staff will bring it out to you take-out style. They also have specials throughout the week including: $12 large pizza Mondays $10 lunch combos Mondays-Fridays 10% off vegan menu on Wednesdays A unique thing about this place is that it is part of the Shoppes At The Arcade, which is an indoor, dog friendly, multi-level shopping complex! An interesting place to walk around and find cool things! Paws Pet Boutique is in there too! Look for the golden pizza in any of the shops and if you find it, you win a large pizza!

I decided to take this mini road trip to try their vegan pizza. I was recommend this spot and since we all now have a lot of time on our hands I figured why not. I called in the order and they said it will take about 15 minutes til ready. When I got there I was only really able to take picture of the outside and menu because they were not allowing people inside due to the virus. The lady literally cracked the door, took my payment and gave me my food. They were playing no games lol! She was nice about it though. I ordered the vegan sausage, pepperoni, pepper and onion deep dish and it was good.

Vegan meatball sub and vegan Mozzarella Sticks!
    Justin B.

Super yummy vegan spot! My favorite type of vegan food is comfort food and that's exactly what this is! We split the meatball sub (which was huge!) and mozzarella sticks. I think their meatballs are homemade, but they're better than any store brand I've had! We enjoyed the very stretchy cheese! My boyfriend is not vegan and loved it all. The coffee crumble was absolutely amazing, super soft and tasty. The servicer was funny and kind! Would highly recommend this place for vegans and non vegans alike!

Walked around & landed on this place. Such a swanky cool kind of new age hipster but also vintage vibe? Lol No idea! But I sure was digging it! The bartender was super sweet in helping me make a decision for dinner, because I wanted to try it ALL. I folded on the Lemony Shrimp & Bean stew (absolutely spectacular and this is coming from someone that doesn't like being or vegetable type soups) the leeks were so yummy but the shrimp was the star, just look at how huge they were. Sliced Flat Iron - SO JUICY. Such flavor! Literally haven't had any steak til this day that could replicate that flavor of the scallion chimichurri and celery root purée. It has been over a year now since I've been here, and I still CRAVE, I'm talking I have full on dreams about having this place again. Can confirm, I AM Homesick.

My group shared the mini lobster rolls, French dip sandwich, and cablarian chile shrimp. My one friend ordered the soup of the day, corn poblano. The appetizers were excellent! We would have liked some bread to share while waiting for our food. For the entrees, we ordered the hamburger and bucatini. Both were cooked to our liking. I loved my bucatini cooked with zucchini and garlic. The cherry on top were the zucchini flowers. This added a nice crunch. Our cocktails were refreshing. My summertime cocktail had cucumber and St. Germain. It was refreshing! Next door to Homesick is Lovesick, an adorable cocktail bar. When down the shore, this is definitely a must try!

Case in point - this restaurant has apparently been in the downtown area for several years and I had no idea. I stopped by here for lunch on Memorial Day with the Millennial Chum, and in a totally risky move, didn't make a reservation anywhere and just decided to wing it. The Millennial Chum's only requirement was that it be a place neither one of us had been to before, so after a very quick search/walk, we noticed this place and also decided we had a hankering for Italian. Done. I don't know how to describe the interior, but "yellow" and "modern" comes to mind. This isn't a stodgy white tablecloth kind of place; it's vibrant and hip, I'm sure trying to capture that classic Asbury demo. Really unique. The weather was a little meh, which worked in our favor - although there was a decent amount of foot traffic in the downtown area 70% of which were pooches, only one other table was occupied in here. We were able to sit down and were served very promptly. We were both very intrigued by one of the apps on the verbal specials menu - mango burrata, which sounded like sort of a mess, but also worth a try. Definitely more of the latter. Never would have thought to combine these two ingredients together, but it was really excellent and an interesting palate pairing. The presentation was solid as well, and this...didn't last long, although given that we both ordered entrees perhaps we should have been more responsible in that regard. Something I'd recommend for the regular menu in the future for sure. A lot of the entrees looked interesting and pretty authentic; this isn't just spaghetti and chicken parm (I'm not actually sure either was even on the menu). The one that emotionally spoke to me the most was the Pappardelle (one of my fave pastas and always pleased to see it) Al Telefono Nostro. Really hit the spot, and as you can see a really hardcore portion. The tomato cream sauce was light and flavorful, and the only nitpick I had (just a personal palate preference) was the inclusion of the sliced tomatoes. I'm sure a ton of people love those, and it basically adds a level of authenticity to the dish that a barbarian like me just can't quite appreciate. I made sure the Millennial Chum had a few tomato pieces though. Really good dish and would order it again. Honestly not sure what possessed us to even look at the dessert menu much less actually order from it, but I thought Oreo Tiramisu sounded interesting, despite the Millennial Chum's yowling that she despised tiramisu. It turns out she doesn't, because once this dish arrived she happily helped herself and decided that her opinion on tiramisu was likely based on a traumatic/misleading childhood incident. Bare minimum, this place gets solid marks for rewriting history for her in the Italian dessert department. But it WAS delicious, which was a theme of our meal. The service was top-notch; our waitress was over regularly and had a strong command of the menu (which I think deserves bonus points, given that this was not Americanized and it helped to have a metaphorical lifeguard helping us navigate some of the trickier stuff; I studied abroad in Florence over 20 years ago, but you'd never know it). Very pleasant. BIg recommend; not a ton of establishments under the radar in Asbury, but this might be one of them.

***3 1/2 stars***…read more All Star Bagel got our business by default, but that's not necessarily a negative. I came here with my top-tier chum to grab a bite this past Saturday before hitting the beach. The downtown area of Ocean Grove is super tiny so there aren't a lot of breakfast games in town. We saw a bakery across the street with a line snaking out the door, and decided to go with the other open establishment within our line of sight that didn't have a line. That was that. There were a handful of customers waiting for sandwiches/bagels, but the line moved and we were in and out of there in less than 10 minutes. This is probably the least bougie spot we frequented over the weekend, and again, not an insult. This is pretty much dictionary definition bagel shop - no frills, just efficient bagel ordering/processing. I don't recall a seating area but if there was one, it was only one or two tables; this is a place you grab something to go, not hang out and mingle. There's a refrigerated area with some drinks, but most of the square footage is devoted to the work in the back, where everyone was super busy. We showed up probably around 8am or a little after and it was hopping. OG is not a party town, and this was exhibit A. Neither of us was insanely hungry (case in point - my chum finished off her order the next day), but I thought it was important to get a few carbs in before the adventures started. I went with a classic bacon egg & cheese on a roll, and my chum got an everything bagel, I think with some stuff on it. Perfectly fine. To me, it's pretty difficult to mess up a breakfast sandwich. My only quibble is that the ingredient equilibrium was a bit off - this was heavy on the cheese versus the egg. I'm sure tons of people are into that, but I like to be able to legit taste all three players. Otherwise though, did exactly what it was supposed to. I don't usually heavy breakfasts like this unless I'm on vacation (I'm a Wheaties adherent 99% of the time), but this was good. No issues, just pretty run of the mill. And given that we literally had two options, this was an acceptable second choice.
