A charming little crepe shop in Vitré serving award-winning galettes and crepes (plus hard cider!)…read more I'm a big fan and follower of these places that commit to using organic and local products, and am so happy that Creperie La Clé Des Champs has received well-deserved recognition for doing exactly that. We arrived around 11:45 am on a Tuesday, when they were just opening up for business (mind you, they open for only 2-hours a day), and we were lucky to be seated as we showed up without a reservation. By 12:30, the restaurant was full. The menu (both in French and English) has four large pages filled with galette and crepe options - either a la carte or included in a menu (all inclusive meal). I wanted to try what they were famous for in Bretagne, so I opted for the Country Menu, which is a deal at 12,90 Euro: Glass of Cider, Galette with ham, egg, and Emmental cheese, Crepe with butter and sugar or honey. This is a mom-and-pop shop, and the husband makes everything fresh to order (including the batter, as we heard him whisking away in the kitchen). Meanwhile, the wife maintains the front of the house, pouring drinks and taking orders. Be forewarned, service is somewhat slow, but that is to be expected with the aforementioned. Just order a bottle of cider and enjoy the company you're with in this quaint lunch spot!

It has beautiful, comfortable furniture and decor and a warm feeling tone I felt as though I were in the home dining room of Claude, the owner who skillfully and lovingly prepares savory galettes in his spotless kitchen. Galettes are buckwheat crêpes, a signature dish of French Brittany. Using a variety of fresh, high-quality ingredients, Claude quickly and artfully prepared three galettes simultaneously, before my wondering eyes. He expertly ladled, spread, flipped, topped, and folded three galettes all with different fillings. The traditional ham, Emmental cheese, and fried egg is probably the most popular. I savored every bite of my very large and perfect galette with its crispy edges. Chase yours with a glass of cidre made from local apples. No, it's not apple cider. Speaking of apples, my dessert was a luscious apple crêpe with real whipped cream. Great food, generous portions, fair prices, attractive surroundings, attentive service, and Claude's personal touch. It doesn't get any better than this. Movie night? This amazing little crêperie is also conveniently located just steps from the Aurore Cinema.

We got seated and were handed menus promptly, and within five minutes of ordering, our food was out. I got the La Trinite galette (9,60) which comes with potatoes, raclette cheese, mushrooms, bacon (like canadian bacon), and salad with a mustard dressing. My friend got the La Saint-Sauveur (11) which comes with buffalo mozzarella, tomato carpaccio, pine nuts, and an olive oil & balsamic dressing. My galette was delicious - I usually don't care for mustard dressing (or any dressing in that matter) but this one was actually very good! There were three nice slices of bacon on top and the potatoes and cheese were soft. Service was quick (which I was surprised about, because France is notorious for slow service), the restaurant was warm and quiet, great location, and good food that is comparable to other creperies in the city center.

Best of all they are open on Sundays, which is when I was in. Finding restaurants open on Sunday in France is no easy task! They offered very good choices for crepes, ... from the standard to the more gourmet. La Creperie Rennaise offered both tasty meal and dessert crepes. The salted caramel for dessert was spot on. La Creperie Rennaise provided excellent service. There was also plenty of room on a busy day here. There are multiple stories to the building and restaurant.
