About as far away from Woodies or B&Q as it's possible to get, avoid it at all costs if you like ordered aisles, signs, clearly displayed prices, or a lot of choice. To be sought out if you have a general sense of curiosity and might like to witness a wily, wiry man, not in the first flush of youth but nimble as a goat, disappear into the midst of what looks like pure chaos in the form of a shelving system, and arrive back within 60 seconds with precisely what you asked for - however odd or out of sight - and present it to you without fuss, usually at a cost of around two euros. If that's ok. Because he may well ask you. Bulbs. Paint. A colander. Electrical stuff. Wire. Rope. Pots. Plants. Trees. Keys. A laser spirit level, anyone? Lamps. Bike locks. Vacuum bags. It wouldn't surprise me to find there's a sofa in there somewhere, or a self-assembly garden shed (maybe even modest dwelling?), in fact next time I might ask. It says on the stand that they take 14 days to deliver. Grand, I knew it was going to be a push for my builders, but I thought, these will be worth it. Firstly, they don't have any samples to look at of the tiles, except the ones that are fixed to the stand, so you have to use your imagination to see what goes with what. They also don't have them in any brochure, and it seems that most of the staff there have no idea about the range. When I finally found someone who could help me (who did try her best to be fair), she told me that there was "no point" in me buying these tiles from the store, because they could sometimes take two months for delivery. She advised me to buy the products from the website as then they would arrive within a week. So off I went to do that. Fine, until I realised that they don't deliver to Republic of Ireland. Great. Luckily enough I had discovered Parcel Motel (an 'in-between' company who have a Newry address who will receive your package, then forward onto you for a nominal fee). I went to order the tiles, then realised that actually most of the ones displayed in the store were in fact unavailable on the website. I was so sick of it all at this stage that I just changed the colour scheme and went ahead to order whatever was available. I got confirmation that the goods would arrive within 14 days. That was five weeks ago now and there's no sign. I have called Homebase several times since and had various answers from them, most recently that the tiles are actually out of stock. They have no idea when they will be back in stock, as they buy them in from Habitat. They never thought in all this time that perhaps if they were out of stock, that they should ring me, the customer, to let me know. They never thought that the hold up on these tiles is actually holding up an entire building project. I'm now waiting for their manufacturer to call me to let me know what's happening with them. I've been advised that if I don't hear from them, I should call Homebase back in 48 hours. I presume that will result in me waiting on hold for another half an hour, busily paying the phone bill for such a call. Absolutely terrible service, I would never buy anything like this from them again.

I've had two bad experiences with this store when using their click-and-collect service…read more The first time, even though I received a "ready to collect" email, the staff only started preparing my order after I arrived, and I had to wait 15 minutes. The second time was even worse. They couldn't find my order at all. I had to show my confirmation email six times, and after 20 minutes of waiting, they told me to come back in a few days because no one was available in the office. They said if they still couldn't locate it then, they would issue a refund. I tried to initiate a refund online, but there's no option for that--only product returns are allowed. Overall, a very frustrating and unprofessional experience. I wouldn't recommend this service.

It was unusable, so I returned it and searched out in the world. After passing up a sketchy place on Dame Street, I came across this hardware store that had a small selection of converter plugs. Both the gents working there were friendly and talkative, assuring me that they were of good enough quality, or they wouldn't sell them. I went for the less expensive of the two adapters, and it works just swell. Reasonable price. Lifesaver!!! I CAN PLUG IN MY ELECTRONICS OMFGGGGG... I have no other experience, and likely never will... but if I can find an excuse to start a home improvement project in Dublin, I'll come back here.

They always seem to have stock. Anything from floppy discs (yep, you can still buy 'em) to 50 meter ethernet cables. They've got it! Staff seem to all know exactly what they're talking about even though there's such a vast variety of things on sale here. They're all extremely friendly and I haven't once been left waiting for somebody to come serve me. They also seem genuinely happy in what they do so it's so much easier to talk to them and get advice. What ever they're doing, they need to keep it up!

They sell all sorts, from kitchen furniture to glasses, to 'slurp' soup mugs, to banana leaf trays and garden settings. My favourite item in store is the wall-mounted wine opener, which comes in at a pretty 139 euro (ouch, but once you see it no price is too great!) A good place for some Sunday shopping if you're of the inclination. They also have an Insomnia cafe attached for those who tire of their partner's browsing habits.

Think Ikea but more expensive so keep an eye open for their sales as they generally have a good bargain to be found. When you do bite the bullet and buy something you generally still love it even after a few years and their stuff is always good quality so perhaps they may be expensive but worth it.
