We took Cermak-McCormick after visiting the Blues Heaven Foundation a few blocks away. We were headed to Chicago Music Exchange on N Lincoln. Our route was Cermak-McCormick to Clark/Lake, where we transferred to the Brown line for the Paulina train stop. We were at the train station on a hot summer day, but fortunately there was some breeze on the first/street level of the station. There was a few spots to hide from the sun on the platform. The station is clean and is clearly video monitored. Plus, there are some cool cartoon illustrations to checkout on the platform while waiting for your train.

Although I maintain a residence on the south side, I spend majority of my time downtown (work) or…read moreon the north side (bf) and this route gets me downtown in about 20min (sometimes more depending on traffic and the bus driver). In the morning and between 5pm-7pm, it runs like clockwork....anytime between then it just has a regular schedule. Beware that the hours for this route has changed (not in my favor) so if you find yourself needing to take this bus anytime around 11pm or after, you're screwed. The plus side is that you don't have to drive or pay for ridiculously priced parking...the downside is you can't really take it at night.

This morning however I took it to catch my flight to Midway. Why was I impressed? The train was clean (relatively speaking), b.o. free, and it didn't hit any notable slow zones. It was fairly empty when I rode it, but I think that's because all sensible people were in bed getting some shut eye. I reserve the right to change my opinion in the future, I mean it is the CTA and all. This ride could've been an anomaly. We'll see how I feel on my return ride home.

I was assaulted on a northbound Kimball bus (bus #1567 around 7:40am). An older male passenger…read moreshoved me and screamed obscenities because I was blocking the way. The bus was packed so there wasn't anywhere for me to go which made him hostile. I told him there's nowhere to move and he got in my face and screamed obscenities again. I told the bus driver I was being harassed and he just told me to "calm down" and move to the rear. Really? A customer physically pushes someone, screams and becomes hostile and bus drivers just ignore it? Good to know your bus drivers ignore a woman being harassed by an older, bigger dude. The driver pretty much turned a blind eye to a situation that could have ended up worse if I didn't get off the bus in fear of my safety. This man was clearly unstable and hostile, and could have easily done this to a child or elderly person. How scary.

It happens to the most courteous and the most absent-minded of us, a natural inability to stop a cycle of reflexive knee-jerk pseudo small talk. I had one of those conversations with the driver of the #82 Kimball-Homan, except I think he meant it. He smiled and spoke cheerfully *both* times I asked him how we was. This is generally a very pleasant bus. There are some trying times to be sure (45 minute wait once last year), but with nothing at the two adjacent divisible-by-400 north-south streets Kedzie and Central Park, this bus is absolutely *key* for traversing the midwestern belt of this midwestern city. One time, a woman got on the bus pushing a luggage case rigged up with an elaborate spotted cardboard dog with its paws reaching around an empty bowl and a cartoon bubble saying, "I'm begging so my owner doesn't have to." She was on the bus for a good five minutes, mumbling some pleasant eccentricities to herself, which was quite a break from the more threateningly-self-mumbled eccentricities you sometimes hear on some other bus lines. Luck of the draw, maybe, but I usually enjoy this ride.

Unlike the #6 which is always over-crowded and a million light years from my place, the number 2 has the good taste of always offering seats and drops me off 2 blocks away from my cozy home. Even if you take the orange line to sox games, get off at 35th/archer and board this bus instead of the #35. Less traffic, and nowhere near as crowded as the #35. MAJOR DOWNSIDE: NO late nite service after 11pm(east or west) and no weekend service. Excellent for sox day games or heading to the park for a nite game(i recommend taking the 35 after the game, as there usually are a few after the game. #39 is a tight schedule all day, and the game may end after the last bus)

Occasionally the morning bus will have the same bus driver, but for the most part there is someone different behind the wheel each day. This is bad because I never know where to stand or whether or not I have to press the stop button. It seems that no matter where I stand, I have to walk to the bus. I get off at the 35/Archer Orange Line station. This is a popular stop and for a long time I never had to push the stop button to request that I get let out. Makes sense to me. But of course one time I got a jerk that drove past and I had to pull the emergency cord. I'm tired of getting scolded by the drivers when they don't even know how to do their simple jobs!
